C.1910, German, Badishe Uhrenfabrik, uncommon 400-day clock with "3-Ball" pendulum. This clock is in original, as-found condition, dirty, but worthy of restoration. Base and columns are well oxidized. Typical Badische movement with lantern pinions is intact and ticks fine; suspension and fork missing. Original porcelain dial with "Crescent-B" trademark is xlnt. Retains original heavy glass dome {setting beside clock}. Height 10.5" $75-100

C.1905, German, Gustav Becker, 400-Day clock in a dark oak case with beveled glass; the top section lifts off like a "dome". This clock came to us from a repairman and is running fine. On the minus side, the movement is serial number 1,913,457, and with an earlier disc pendulum with lower serial number {+ a small side dent}. There are some dark stains on the arbors where rust has been removed; minute hand is repaired; all 4 beveled glass are excellent and porcelain dial is perfect. If it were all correct, we would have expected it to bring $800. Height 12½" $375-475

a C.1910, German "Anniversary Clock" [on dial], in good original condition with old dome. The lower suspension block is missing and there is a hairline in the dial, visible on close inspection, and the bezel with a dimple at 6 {where the hairline came from}. No rust and mechanically sound, and it is difficult to find these with the Anniversary trademark. Ht 11" $150-200

b C.1930, German, Kieninger & Obergfell [for Sokol Montag, plate 1524], Louvre model in generally good condition. The brass has discolored, but clock retains xlnt porcelain dial and original dome. Proper 4-ball pendulum. Note the old glass dome is from another item and is slightly large in diameter; looks OK but does not set down in the groove of the base. Will clean up nicely; fork, block and suspension intact; height 17 ½" $175-275

c C.1844, Chauncey Jerome, Bristol, Conn an early 30 hour brass movement OG with original wooden dial and very good label. The case is missing some of the outer band veneer along the bottom and a couple of chips, but overall is good. The weights have been turned by a machinist and are a bit light; standard replacements are available. The original tablet is about 30% flaked, but could merit restoration. Overall an interesting early OG with potential; ht 26" $125-175

C.1910, German, Junghans, Diana, Swing clock, as-found. Her left index finger is broken away and there is a porcelain chip in the dial by number 8. The jewel bar stripped out of her hand and someone has poorly soldered it in place with soft solder. Movement is sound and she does run fine {would benefit from cleaning}. The perfect ones seem to fetch around $850. Do NOT confuse this with the new ones coming from China; this clock has potential. Height 13 ½" $250-350

C.1905, Waterbury Clock Co., "Parlor #6" porcelain china mantel clock in good original condition. The pendulum is missing {refer to Timesavers clock parts in catalog}, but this clock is otherwise an excellent example with no chips to case, label intact on rear. The case front and sides decorated with small purple tipped flowers. 8-day movement, patent Jan 13, 1891 is sound but will require service; strikes the hours on a gong; original hands and perfect cream colored porcelain dial. Height 10" $175-275

C.1925, Waltham, Mini Banjo with Mt. Vernon tablets, as-found. This clock is rough: both tablets are flaking and although these models used Waltham's durable 8-day car clock movement, this one has been adapted from another clock and is in the case crooked and the bezel, from yet another clock has been soldered into place; dial crooked, hands mis-aligned. Amazingly it runs. Enjoy as decorator, or look for proper parts. Would be $500 if correct; height 21" $125-175

C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert, "DACCA" Walnut 8-day parlor clock in excellent order, except it is missing its carved top and 4 finials {see detail image of what it should look like}. Retains original dial, hands, regulator pendulum, finish +label on rear. Note this is a 3-dimensional case with lots of incising. If you are a handy enough to make the top, you'll end up with a $400 clock; height as shown 18" $100-200

C.1900, New Haven "DUCHESS" 8-day, shelf clock in golden oak and in good original condition. There is enough label on the rear to read the model name and that it said "8-day". The original dial is flaking, and the case is a little loose. Note single barrel pendulum always used on this model. Runs and strikes. Height 18" $125-175

C.1895, German, Junghans, Mini Walnut alarm clock, with restoration. The case has been refinished with shiny varnish, and the brass polished; small brass button, top left is missing, and brass fleur-de-lis from top center is absent also. Otherwise this is a cute little clock, complete with original dial and finials. The shortcomings are noticed only on close observation, and this is still a cute decorator and in running order; alarms loudly on an iron bell. Ht 12" $100-150

C.1870, Jerome & Co., full size 30 hour steeple clock in very good original condition. The only items that keeps this from being excellent are the replaced top finials, which have been there a long time, and an old replaced hour hand. The rest of the clock is in xlnt original condition, especially the tablet of Washington Rock, NJ" which is really superb. Even with minor shortcomings, almost anyone could be happy with this clock. Height 19" $125-225

C.1920, German, Hamburg American Clock Company, 8-day, time and strike mantel clock in generally good condition. Runs and strikes on a cathedral gong, but would benefit from service. There is a center split in the front that was caused by a presentation plaque that has been removed; stain on dial. Has a super original label inside the rear door. Neat architectural style. Height 15¼" $75-100

C.1965, Horolovar Co., Bronxville, NY, Terwilliger's re-issue of the "Flying Pendulum Clock", from storage, missing tiny ball pendulum {available from Timesavers, #11718 for $2.25, includes cord}. The clock is otherwise sound and original and with a good dial, spring, hands, etc, and with original brochure and order form from 1960. These seem to bring $175 when complete. Height 10" $90-120

C.1920, German, Black Forest Cuckoo in good restored condition. A couple of leaf tips have been re-glued, but everything is there, and the carving is deep and 3 dimensional. The bellows and flutes are new {nice deep tone}, and the pendulum is new as well. Retains heavy old movement, and is running and "cucking" well. Original hands and numerals are excellent; good old weights as well. Height, bird to pendulum tip, 23" $150-250

C.1920, German, Black Forest Cuckoo & Quail in good restored condition. A couple of leaf tips have been reglued, and the antlers appear to have been replaced long ago. See image of large 3-train movement with cast plates, and note new bellows atop the old flutes. Retains original bone hands, weights and pendulum. Height, deer to pendulum tip, 27", ht, including weights, 33" $600-700

C.1925, German, Black Forest Cuckoo, complete with top rail. This clock is from a home in Maine and although dusty, has received good care. A couple of trim pieces are loose, but all is there; ¼" tip gone from right finial. Heavy cast plate lyre movement is marked DRGM. Original bellows have deep tone. Cross-band inlay strips are intact; original hands. Note chalet style treatment to roof. Height, top leaf to pendulum tip = 25" $275-375

C.1868, Hubbell Mini Cast Iron shelf clock in very clean condition. These must occasionally have been used as travel clocks, owing to the convenient size for packing into the corner of a suit case. 30 hour lever movement seems to be running fine; the dial paper has been renewed. The black enamel and mother of pearl are in very good condition. Height 5 ½" $100-150

C.1900, German, Mahogany Mantel Clock in good original condition. The very well made movement looks like a W+H, but is stamped "Made in Germany", as is the rear of the dial. The front of the dial is signed: "Harris & Shafer Co, Washington, DC". In any case it is a well made little clock with Chippendale style carvings applied to the front. The finial at top is removable. The finish on the case is original and with nice patina. This is a great clock for a beginning collector. Ht 16" $125-225

C.1895, Seth Thomas Adamantine, as-found. Although the rear dust board is gone, this clock is otherwise in good original condition. We have not seen this particular model before and it is attractive, with gilt caryatids between double white columns either side of the dial. With key and pendulum; movement has never been serviced; runs but dirty. Will restore into a $350 Adamantine. Height 10" $125-225

C.1910, Waterbury "Conductor" carriage clock in outstanding condition. This clock has been well cared for and was recently serviced and is running, striking and repeating strongly. Although the brass case has some wear spots, most of the original gilding is intact. A great little clock; best we've seen in years. Ht 4½" $250-350

C.1910, Ansonia "Euclid" Porcelain china clock in excellent original condition. This is a little one day, rear wind clock. The paper dial has some age spots, but nothing objectionable; beveled crystal is perfect. Case is off white with yellow flowers. A great clock for one who collects miniatures; height 5.5" $125-175

C.1890, Parker & Whipple, Meriden, Conn, a small pendulum timepiece in excellent original condition. The paper dial has turned gray, but the inscription is still quite legible: "A. E. Hotchkiss' Patent" . Note the measurement on this model, one of the smallest pendulum clocks in the world. Complete with original rear winding/set key {don't lose this part} Running. Height 3" $175-275

C.1925, German, Animated Monkey shelf clock in good original condition. The eyes move back and forth while the moving pendulum {monkey's tail} is visible between his legs. There are some nicks and scrapes to the case, and it was varnished over lightly at one time and has turned a bit dark. We have not seen this novelty before and it's a real "eye catcher". The unusual movement is well made and running, but would benefit from service. Rear door slides up for access. Ht 10" $175-225

C.1835, Henry Terry, Plymouth, Conn {invented by Eli Terry on label}, short transitional shelf clock, with some restoration. The splat is a piece of mahogany and improper. The tablet was replaced maybe 50 years ago, as it is flaking again in several spots, and the putty is extremely hard….has a decent look. Label with some tears but very legible; stenciling on columns weak but visible. If you have a friend with some old case parts, you might come up with a stenciled splat to replace this one, or check with Karen Larson. Best part of the clock is the absolutely fabulous dial—it may look new in photo, but it is original!! Height 29" $275-375

a C.1922, Seth Thomas, "Chime Clock No. 95" in good original condition. This clock has been in storage and there is some minor tarnish on the dial and bezel. However it is in untouched condition, with good #124 3-train movement, silvered dial with raised bronze numerals, and all original chime rods intact and with super tone. Height 11¼" $200-300

C.1885, German, Hamburg American, for the French market. Interestingly, this clock belonged to a lawyer in New York, and in 1970 he wrote NAWCC about its origin. With the clock is a handwritten reply from former president Earl Strickler telling him that H.A.C. was founded by Paul Landenberger, son-in-law of Erhard Junghans. A worn photo taken in 1970 shows that two top trim buttons and the two lower finials have been missing for at least 30 years. Movement sound but would benefit from service. Wooden dial and porcelain numerals are perfect; height 23" $225-325

C.1880, French, a good Walnut Cartel clock with reeded side columns and nicely carved top and bottom. This is roughly the same time period as the previous lot, but of higher quality. The movement is a large and robust unit with solid square plates and dead beat escapement, and with very large spring barrels. The twelve porcelain numerals are attached to a round wooden dial, and the hands are pierced brass, ht 25" $350-550

C.1885, Ansonia TRIUMPH Walnut parlor clock in fair to good condition, with restoration. Note the little "tails" on the top carving are missing, the dial is from another clock and double drilled to fit this one, the case refinished, top finials incorrect, and partial rear label is dark from solvent. See image of movement and note top two pivots on time side are riding in "instant bushings" applied with sheet metal screws. Well, it runs and strikes, but a purist would take exception to these items. This is a $700 clock today in proper order, so our estimate reflects current condition. It does look quite nice. Height 24 ½" $350-450

C.1954, Swiss, LeCoultre, ATMOS serial 47883, "perpetual" clock automatically wound by changes in atmospheric pressure. This clock is as found, the dial dis-colored, and the case with part of the lacquer and gilding rubbed off due to regular cleaning/dusting. We set the clock running and verified that the movement is complete and sound, but it may need service. These clock are still made today in Switzerland, and are very expensive. Height 9 ½" $250-350

C.1891, Waterbury "Bruce" Oak Cased wall clock. Except for the missing stick & ball top, this clock is all original, in exceptional condition and with medium golden oak finish. 8-day time and strike on cathedral gong, running well. Retains both original labels on rear [Bruce label missing a couple of small pieces]. If you are handy enough to make a top, you can complete a desirable clock. Worth $750 complete. Height as shown in photo 30" $300-400

C.1925, New Haven Clock Co., ABBEY Westminster Chime mantel clock in very good condition, running and chiming fine. The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is one finial missing from the solid mahogany case. Has premium dial with raised numerals in good condition. Uses premium round movement with spring barrels and chimes the quarter hours on straight steel rods. Exceptional tone on this particular clock. Height 15 ½" $225-325

C.1910, German, Junghans, Walnut bracket clock, time and strike, in good restored condition. This is a cute clock with classic English lines, and with brass spandrels in the corners and in the arch of the dial. Strikes the hours and halves on a coiled wire gong. Minute hand is old, but does not match the hour hand, the silvered chapter ring with roman numerals and with little gold fleur-de-lis between the numerals. Well made movement with solid plates carries the Junghans logo on the rear plate, and "Germany" on the dial. Height 17" $175-275

C.1905, Seth Thomas "Reminder Alarm" clock in very good restored condition. This is an uncommon model that we could not find in the Seth Thomas catalog, however, it retains its original label with model name on the rear. Similar to cabinet models, it uses a movement related to the "advance" or "progress", but with center set alarm, rather than a small wheel below the 12.. The "silent" and "alarm" lever is just below the dial on the front of the case. The front of the clock is an oak veneer panel with applied trim like the "Metal" series. Dial and hands are original. Runs and alarms for a LONG time. Neat beginner's clock. Height 15" $125-225

C.1890, E. N. Welch Mfg, Bristol, Walnut gingerbread clock in excellent original condition. This model is the SMUGGLER , with both rear labels intact {top label for model and lower instruction label}. Note interesting "horse & buggy" tablet is also original. Pendulum was originally gilded, now rubbed to copper. Runs. This and the next lot are great entry level clocks for the novice collector. Height 22" $150-200

C.1890, E. N. Welch Mfg, Bristol, Walnut gingerbread clock in excellent original condition. The model label is rubbed off and unreadable, but the lower instruction label is complete. This is a GREAT walnut gingerbread clock, with original finish {dark and crazed}, and with fancy pendulum with original gilding intact. Note the old tablet with "curtain" dial surround, and inside repair label from a jeweler in Lynn, Mass "who will give you Boston price[s] and save you car fare". A great beginner's clock. Height 25" $175-275

C.1900, Seth Thomas ADAMANTINE mantel clock in good original condition, dirty, as-found. This clock has sat for many years and has a good bit of grunge in the crevices and it appears that the movement has never been serviced. Still, everything there is sound and original and this clock will restore nicely. Strikes a gong on the hour and bell on the half hour. Note embossed brass dial with heavy cast bezel. Height 11" $125-175

a C.1900, Seth Thomas ADAMANTINE mantel clock in fair to good original condition, dirty, as-found. There are a couple of corner chips in the adamantine veneer. Retains original dial and heavy cast bezel. This one has green & white moldings and matching top. All hardware sound and complete. Ht 11" $100-150

b C.1886, Seth Thomas "RENO" Walnut City Series clock in generally good as-found condition. There is one little trim "ball" missing on the right side, and the dial has a few flakes and has been shellacked over to try to stabilize what is left. Retains original finish, with wear, original interior black label {unreadable} and proper city series pendulum. Ht 20" $175-275

c C.1900, German, Kienzle, "R-A" Walnut wall regulator in good original condition. This would be excellent, except that it is missing finials, top and bottom; also missing plain glass on left side. Still everything else is original and finials can be purchased for less than $2 each. The 8-day movement is dirty, but is still ticking and striking; height 33" $200-300

C.1920, E. Ingraham & Co., De Soto Black Mantel clock in good original condition, clean and running. Although we do not normally sell Ingraham blacks, this one is just a little nicer than normal, with 6 short Corinthian capitals and mahogany panels above. There are some nicks and scrapes on the case, but it is generally quite nice; celluloid dial is still good. Height 11" $125-175

C.1930, American oak cased tool box, restored. The case has been refinished and the drawers all relined with green felt. With original lock and key. This is about as nice a box as we have had. Height 14" width 20" $150-250

C.1930, New Haven WHITNEY Banjo clock, in good, original, as-found condition, the dial with wear and poor touch-up. Re-silvering these dials is expensive, however paper replacements are available for a couple of dollars. The clock is otherwise sound, and is even running and striking on a straight steel rod. Original pendulum. 8-day spring movement. Ht 30" $150-200

C.1929 {dated on rear}, Sessions HALIFAX 8-day time and strike banjo clock in good, as-found condition, except for a broken strike spring. The mahogany case is clean with a transfer in the throat and a print of a clipper ship in the door. The dial is perfect; replace the spring and end up with a $200 banjo. Ht 27½" $50-80

C.1955, Seth Thomas, 110v Plymouth, Westminster chime tambour clock, as-found. This clock has been packed away for a while, and we were surprised on plugging it in and moving the hands to find that it chimed the quarter hours just fine, and with great tone. BUT the hands are not advancing despite the obvious efforts of the motor, so it is going to require some looking into. Note original instructions, pre-load key and silvered dial with raised bronze numerals. Original finish great, plus burled applique intact; ht 9½" $75-100

C.1880, New Haven, Octagon Drop, mahogany with restorations. The case has been refinished and the lower door re-venered {an OK but not perfect job}. Retains good tablet and interior label [showing 1871 patent date]], a little aged but fully legible. Original dial intact with minor flaking. Not a bad school clock; height 23" $175-225

C.1915, New Haven Clock Co., REFEREE, time and calendar oak store regulator, restored. This clock was refinished some time ago to a golden oak color. The dial re-papered with appropriate stock, is coming loose from the pan. Hands and top tablet original; lower tablet a replacement. Still a good looking clock; ht 36" $225-325

C.1730, English, 8-day Movement with 12 inch brass dial, as-found. This movement came to us from storage in Maine, and is missing the rack, warning lever, and gathering pallet; it is otherwise complete and sound, with heavy baluster pillars {finely ringed}, + bell, pulleys, hands and seatboard. It is a well made movement with calendar ring intact behind the dial; a new calendar gear has been installed, but still needs a pin to activate the ring. The dial itself with face spandrels in the corners and dolphin spandrels in the arch; the dial center with fine floral and scroll engraving. The arch with a removable circle on which is engraved the name of Edward Upjohn, Topham. Without pendulum or weights. Measures 12 x 16" $400-600

a C.1735, English, 8-Day Movement with 12 inch brass dial, restored, the dial signed Henry Thornton, London. The movement has been bushed and re-strung and is ready for installation. The chapter ring has been polished to brass and should be silvered. Minute hand is an incorrect replacement, but will suffice until you find a proper one. Dial has a matte center with calendar orifice at 6 and the calendar is functioning. With pulleys; without pendulum or weights. Measures 12 x 16 ¼" $400-600

C.1790, Scottish, 8-Day Movement with 12 inch brass dial, and with original internal alarm intact. The pull wind alarm spring is at the top of the rear plate, when released by the central alarm cam it rings the strike bell with a crown wheel and typical double ended hammer {still works !!}. With calendar aperture above the 6, and with strike/silent lever in the arch and all of those levers intact as well. Dial signed Joseph Taylor, Perth. With pulleys; without pendulum or weights. This came from the same Maine storage as lot 44. 12 x 16 ½" $500-800

C.1830, Sylvester Clarke, Salem-Bridge, Conn., early shelf clock with restorations. Sylvester designed a slightly different movement than Heman, but still placed the 'scape wheel outside the plates, above the center shaft--see detail image. The top support for the movement has been newly made and left old holes unfilled; top carved splat is suspect, however this carving is 3" wider than a triple deck carving and may just be original. Old feet are from another clock and bottoms of the columns are newly made with contrasting inlay. Dial was purpose made out of wood and professionally painted {high quality}. The 8-day movement has some repairs but seems to tick and strike. Both glasses with corner cracks; good label. Would be $4500 if original. Ht 29" See also lot 319. Should be tempting at $1000-1500

Mixed Lot: A quality chain fusee movement C.1900 with a jeweled lever platform, now in a brass case made by a machinist showing off his substantial skills with metal work. The top of the case has a round beveled lens for viewing the movement, and the dial is lightly engraved in the brass front of the clock. Seems to run OK and is keeping time, but I notice the minute shaft is slightly bent causing a bind in the motion works {should be relatively easy to fix. Ht 10" $250-350

C.1830, Dutch Stoelklok, as-found. This clock has been in storage in Maine for 35 years, and has lost its hands, weights, bell, pend, case lead {top}. Still it is an interesting clock, worthy of restoration. The alarm train is present, but front disc is absent; note also rolling moon. The paint on the mermaids looks as if it were re-done mid-20th century. Ht 27" $500-800

C.1890, German, Lenzkirch, carriage alarm, as-found. This little clock is in the same category as the little Terry Clock Co. alarms, in that it has a pivoted pendulum fixed to the movement, with a threaded bob for adjustment. The once elegant wooden case with brass edging and feet had finely painted decorations which an amateur tried to outline with gold paint {needs further attention}. Porcelain dial with touch-up at 10 & 3; minute hand improper. Still ticks and alarms. Would be $500 if original. Ht, handle up 6½" $125-225

C.1845, Terry & Andrews, 30-Hour, Brass spring steeple {time spring now steel}, with Terry style alarm and excellent label. The Fenn type tablet with balloonist is also original, but with wear; you can just about make out the entire design. The case was refinished long ago and there are a few veneer chips along the edges, but this clock is otherwise in very good original condition. A good early steeple. Height 19" $125-175

C.1900, Wm. L. Gilbert "Egyptian No. 60" pressed oak kitchen clock in good original condition. The press is deep and with fine floral detail, and with gargoyles on the base. The only thing that keep this clock from being excellent is the top half inch of the case was broken away and lost long ago. It does still look OK with the piece missing. The original dial retains Gilbert trademark, is a bit dark, and the numbers VIII-XII have been touched up a bit. Still, for what we find at estate sales today, this is above average. Ht 25" $125-225

C.1880 {introduced in 1878}, New Haven Estelle, as found, with restoration, but generally fair to good condition. The walnut case has been completely refinished and is quite dark. Someone painted brown paint behind the fancy glass border to help keep it from flaking, and this needs attention. The original dial is flaking in the 4-6 section. About half the label remains on rear. All of the small bits of case trim are intact. Despite the few shortcomings, this is a hard to find model. Height 21" $150-200

C.1870, Mixed banjo lot. I've not seen this particular Connecticut movement before, a small version of a Silas Terry weight movement {unmarked}, in a mixed case, Attleboro lower portion with an Ingraham top section spliced on. The throat tablet is cracked, bottom tablet is fine. It does run and is cosmetically pleasing; would fill the bill as a "decorator" banjo, or the parts alone should be worth the estimate. Ht 41" $350-450

a C.1900, Mixed lot: a Gilbert weight driven movement, now in a C.1925 Chelsea style banjo case with original Hull tablets {throat cracked and glued}. Note the "feet" on the movement have been straightened in a vise so it would fit in this case; pendulum stick and keystone go with the movement. The last thing that was done to accommodate the marriage was to cut off the tip of the center shaft about 1/8" so the bezel would close. It does still tick, but we would suggest you are buying parts that could be put to better use on other clocks; height 35" $350-450

b Mixed lot: A C.1855 S. B. Terry time only regulator movement with seconds bit, on seat board, now in a C.1860 Attleboro banjo case, and with a new dial purpose made for the case. It amazes me how many creative banjo makers we have had for this auction. My guess is that the movement is worth around $200 and the case around $200. From a decorative point of view, this is a decent looking clock; nice tablets. Ht 34" $375-475

C.1825, a Mass area Banjo clock, as-found. This clock has some possibilities. The well made movement is original to the case, as is the dial. Hands are improper replacements. The lower baffle and tie down are missing. Part of the beveled throat is missing {top left}. The primitive tablets may be original and have certainly been in place for a long time and are flaking from the rear. Ticks OK but will require service; lead weight is a recent. Height 34" $500-600

a C.1860, French, 2-Weight Morbier wall clock with two bell ding-dong strike with prayer-repeat strike at 2 minutes past the hour, the whole in excellent restored condition. The dial is signed Chauoin a` Chateauneuf and has some hairlines, but is very good. The hour hand is in 2 pieces {taped for photo}. The cord has failed and needs renewing. Generally a good sound clock that will respond to cleaning and run for many years to come. Note weights are soup cans filled with lead, painted gold; brass of clock has been sprayed gold as well. Ht 58" $400-600

a C.1830, French, Morbier 2-Weight, Prayer Repeat in excellent original condition, with grid pendulum, fancy dial surround with Alpine farm scene {Swiss chalet with cows, a barn, out buildings and people}, and with lead weights. The square brass dial has cast scroll spandrels, and gilded mat center in the English style. With original finials, hands, gong and hardware, the well detailed case with full turned columns up the side and a carved "shingle" roof. The only defect is a part of the seat board missing, easy enough to replace. Good looking; height 23½" $450-650

d C.1920, German, Junghans, Walnut 8-Day bracket clock. This is a very clean clock, mailed over here from Germany. Note the model is like those clocks sold elsewhere that are brought in from China, but look like they've been towed behind a scow all the way to the US. This has a well made Junghans movement, and retains original pendulum, gong and all case hardware. Original cello dial is in good condition. Height 18" $200-300

e C.1975 Chelsea Clock Co., Chelsea, Mass. "The Wythe House" Mantle clock. Ht 40" $400-600

j C.1918, E. Ingraham & Co., NAVARRE, wall clock, 8-day time and strike in good original condition. The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is that someone filled in the background colors of the original tablet, and they didn't match the colors perfectly {looks OK}. Otherwise this is a decent clock with original mahogany finish, and superior paper dial, clean and running. Minor nicks on edge. Ht 20" $250-350

k C.1922, Seth Thomas "Chime clock No. 59" Westminster tune mahogany mantel clock in good condition, restored. The case has been attractively refinished and the movements cleaned. 056 C.1929, Wm. L. Gilbert DRESDEN Pillar and Scroll, miniature, in excellent original condition. The image is deceiving, as the clock is just over a foot high including finials. Retains original dial {a little darkening has occurred}, and original Mr. Vernon lower tablet {painted on glass}. See also next lot. Minor nicks and scrapes; great beginner's clock. Ht 12¼" $225-325

C.1931, Wm. L. Gilbert DRESDEN Pillar and Scroll, miniature, in very good to xlnt original condition. The only minor restoration is a new rear dust cover which has been well done. 059 C.1870, Seth Thomas, Rare 8-Day Short Shell Column, in original condition. The fruit tablet has a single vertical crack straight through and is flaking; label is flaking and weak. 060 C.1875, Seth Thomas, Empire Column & Cornice 8-Day in generally good restored condition. The case has been re-veneered {some one spent a lot of hours on this job} and cornice lacks top ¼" trim molding; dial is new, bottom tablet new; label dark and nearly unreadable. Still not a bad looking example of this model and in running order. Original weights. Ht 31½" $200-300

C.1875, Seth Thomas, Empire Column & Cornice 8-Day in generally good restored condition. Retains original rosewood columns and original finish, but the entire cornice is new {decent job, but needs better finish}. A 4" strip of the backboard is also new {and that portion of the Plymouth Hollow label is missing}. Signed Plymouth movement is running and striking OK, mounted in new uprights. Height 31¾" $200-300

C.1875, A. Frankfield & Co., NY, a rare American made shelf cuckoo with patent Connecticut open spring movement, modified with 1866 patent additions to the plates to allow for two lifting arms in sequence to accomplish the "cuckoo" sound. This clock comes to us from storage, as-found, less rear dust cover. In a bag with the clock are new hands, a numeral set to apply and the pendulum. The dust cover is simple to make from a rectangle of thin pine. If this were complete and original, we would expect it to sell for around $800. Height 19" $300-500

C.1990, Chinese re-issue of late 18th century verge with double fusee bracket clock. When China first opened up in the seventies, the originals of these clocks were imported into the US in great quantities. But when they ran out, the Chinese were creative enough to manufacture still larger quantities that appear to be antiques, but are not. This clock falls in the latter category. Movement is complete and sound and running; has engraved backplate. Side brackets have broken and been poorly soldered. Porcelain dial and surround are in good shape. Complete with original carved base. Height 19" $400-600

C.1860, Waterbury Clock Co., a good little 30 hour iron front, the only faults being the tip of the iron case broken away and the dial re-papered. 065 C.1870., Wm L. Gilbert, 30 Hour Cottage, in rosewood, restored, now less alarm. Case has a repair label on the rear stating "This clock has been restored by George B. Davis, Clock Collector & Restorer, 1714 W. Magnolia, San Antonio 1, TX", which pre-dates the "zip code" era, so we must guess mid 60's. The dial has been professionally repainted. Minor chips and bubbles in veneer; runs and strikes. Ht 13" $100-150

C.1890, Swiss, 8-day, pin set, paperweight clock. This clock is in running order, however the porcelain dial was damaged and is poorly filled in the center, and with hairlines. The well jeweled movement is visible from the rear. Note the flash covered part of the numeral 10. Diameter of ball = 3" In perfect condition these bring 3 to 4 hundred dollars, so our estimate reflects some expense in restoring the dial: $125-225

C.1890, Swiss, 8-day, pin set clock, with eagle stand. The eagle shows evidence of repairs, but is now intact and has been re-bronzed. Note the eagles wings are removable {held on with screws}, and the eagles legs have stubs that fit down into the tree-trunk base which has the talons cast in. The over-grown watch movement is a stem wind job, with rear access through a large hinged cover. The nickeled case is mostly worn to brass. Porcelain dial is perfect. Runs. Diam. of case = 3.8", ht of eagle, 15½" Should attract a lot of attention at $200-300

C.1880, Swiss, Ceremonial Watch in gilt bronze stand. The little "temple" is divided into 4 quadrants, and with a little tray at the bottom for holding small items. Two views are provided to show the layout. The key wind, key set movement is fully shuttered from the rear, and ticks and stops. The porcelain dial is in good condition and retains original hands. We hope someone will recognize the original purpose of this well made item. Ht 6 ¼" $100-200

C.1848, J. C. Brown, Bristol, Conn, 8-Day Steeple Clock in very good+ original condition. An excellent mahogany case with early cone finials. Signed J C Brown movement, and original signed dial {sig faint}, and a Fenn type frosted tablet {some loss of design, and it looks nearly clear in photo}; label is good, with some holes and stain along the bottom. A nice steeple; height 19½" $325-425

C.1890, George W. M. Reed Bitter Co., New Haven, "Our Grandfather’s Clock", made by Yale clock Co. Although the advertising tablet was replaced long ago, and the dial repapered, the case retains its original ebony finish and gilt highlights on the Eastlake style case. Best part is the fabulous rear label…see image. If this clock had the ads, we’d expect it to bring $1000. See also lots 184 and 185 Height 24" $350-450

C.1830, Ephraim Downes, Bristol, Con, short transitional column & splat with claw feet. Both original glasses, the top with edge crack, the tablet with an unusual painting of 3 birds {about 2/3 gone}. Lee Davis says he has never seen this tablet before and would appreciate a photocopy. The Downes movement has been thoroughly cleaned and is in excellent working order. The case retains original dust board over the pulleys; door with ivory escutcheon and orig lock; label excellent. There is minor damage to the top of the splat, dial with paint loss, and the left chimney top was poorly reglued and needs attention. Overall a very good clock worthy of restoration; height 28" $300-500

C.1925, E. Ingraham & Co., "NYANZA" banjo clock in good original condition, clean and running. The only things that keeps this from being excellent are the flaking border of both tablets, and a missing retainer tab on the bezel {stays shut OK}. The dial, hands, pendulum, finish are original and with a superior rear label. Height 39" $300-400

C.1910, Wm. L. Gilbert "Vista" crystal regulator in very good original condition, clean and running. Porcelain dial with open escape is perfect, but there is some dirt on the center dial from a dirty key, but that will clean off OK. Fancy Arabic numerals have a great look. Retains original hands, pendulum and good beveled glass. Note this model has a brass case, but the top molding is plated spelter, with some pitting & discoloration. Height 10½" $250-350

C.1925, New Haven "Whitney" 8-day spring banjo clock with art deco tablets. The tablets are starting to flake and have minor touch up from the rear {still look OK from the front}. The clock strikes the hours on a single straight steel rod mounted in the case back. Silvered dial with minor wear. One of the tabs that retains the crystal has failed and it is loose. Overall good original condition, and will respond to cleaning. Height 30" $175-225

C.1930, Seth Thomas, DOVER, mini spring banjo clock in excellent original condition. Clock is complete with original eagle, label, finish and good silvered dial. 075c C.1920, French Mini Lyre shaped clock in good condition. There are some small nicks and scrapes in the finish of the clock…. someone handy with shellac can fix this up; the "strings are brass inlay and the leaves are satinwood. Retains a good porcelain dial and original hands and seems to be ticking fine. Ht 11¼" $125-175

d C.1835, Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn, stenciled ½ column and splat shelf clock with faint but original stencil on columns, and with GREAT eagle stencil on splat {Wm B. Fenn stencil}; splat has been broken but repaired. Original 30-hour wood movement with alarm train complete with wood alarm pulley [alarm weight lacking]. Original dial in very good condition, also hands and alarm disc. The hand painted tablet is poor, but a good old mirror would make this a very nice clock; ht 34" $225-325

e C.1880, French Portico Set, in the style of Louis XV, white marble and ormolu, with restoration. The ormolu has been polished to brass and lacquered; actually looks quite flashy. The porcelain dial is xlnt, with original polychrome floral wreath decorations. Good round movement strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Note pendulum which is a floral basket. Height 16" $500-750

f C.1895, French, A Small Boulle Style mantel clock with restoration. This case has been polished with a buffing wheel, and the shell buffed away in a couple of spots. The pendulum is old but smooth; should be a little cast brass head or sun. Has a good movement with the signature of Marti, Paris. The small porcelain dial has blue Roman numerals and original moon hands. Runs and strikes the hours and halves on a bell; ht 12" $600-800

g C.1910, German, Cobalt Blue, porcelain china clock "Death of King Lear" clearly labeled under the scene below the dial. Although this is only a 30 hour clock, it is in "like-new" condition with no chips nor cracks and is perfect for the beginning collector. Original and excellent throughout. Ht 10 ½" $175-275

h Mixed lot: This clock is mostly old, a movement by Jullien of Paris, C.1880, modified by extending the rear bridge high enough to accommodate a long pendulum, and a Contra-boulle case from the same period, with extensive repairs to the brass veneer. Seems to run OK. An all original clock of this size would surely sell for $3000 in a French furniture sale. Our estimate is based on the amount of restoration; ht 23½" $800-1200

i C.1910, German Shelf Cuckoo with balance lever escapement. Has heavy cast plates and count wheel movement typical of this time period. Minuses: the top rail of leaves is missing; hands and bellows are new. Minor nicks and scrapes to case, otherwise complete and sound, running, and with nice deep cuckoo sound. Ht 14" $350-550

C.1890, German, Gustav Becker, 2-weight wall regulator in the Veinnese Alt Deutsch style. Although the serial number on the bracket does not match the number on the movement, they are both of Becker production. The top and bottom had an infestation of wood worm that has been treated and is now dormant {no dust apparent}. Strikes on a straight steel rod with pleasant tone. One weight new and they do not match. Height 50" $450-650

C.1890, Austrian, Gebruder Resch {Remember} 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie wall clock in the Alt Deutsch stytle. There is a shim behind the mounting bracket, so we are unsure if the movement is original to the case. The dial center is signed L. Weibhauser, Salzburg, probably the retailer. The chapter ring has some chips and hairlines, but all the numerals are sharp and legible. Hands and pulleys are proper Remember stock; replacement weights. Height 50" $1200-1500

C.1880, German, 2-weight Wall Regulator in a walnut case of transitional style. The 80 beat movement is well made, but is not original to the case. It is a brass slide mount with gong attached to the rear mount. The multicolor porcelain dial is cream color with black numerals with red fleur-de-lis between, also with seconds hand, and fancy embossed bezel. Most regulator movements were 80 beats per minute and will interchange to another case and still run fine; small dents in pendulum. A good looking clock. Height 44" $450-650

C.1890, Austrian, 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie, full column case, as-found in fair condition. This clock suffers from over-restoration. The back has been re-veneered, the sides are replaced and the door is held on with a modern piano hinge. The nice carved top is from another piece of furniture. The movement itself is a Gebruder Resch {Remember}, cleaned and running. The weights are simply brass tubing filled with lead and with coat hanger wire for hooks. The rope molding is new from Home Depot. Would be $3000 if all original. Ht 52" $750-1000

a C.1865, German, Gustav Becker, 1-Weight regulator, with restorations. The well made movement has maintaining power, and serial #59,460, and is original to the case. The dial is excellent except for some hairlines near 5. The case itself has been refinished, and the top is cut out of a piece of drawer front with molded decorations added. Bottom finial is new. Those points aside, it is clean and keeping accurate time. Height 44" $300-500

Mixed Lot, Seth Thomas Regulator No. 2, walnut, mostly new and part old. I really believe the only old parts are the dial surround and outer bezel, which has been re-veneered. The movement is a new Indian unit, unmarked, and the pendulum and weight are new as well. Door latch is included but was never installed; also second hand inside. Our estimate is based on the value of the parts here; ht 36" $225-325

C.1889, German, Kienzle, Berlin Style Free swinger with restorations. The top trim is recently made and stained to match. The main case has a lot of character with deep fluted moldings; the door had a center split that has been filled with carpenters friend. Retains an interesting pendulum showing a young boy in a tree with two storks looking up at him. The solid plate movement has cut pinions and dead bead escapement. Running. Height 38" $275-375

C.1870, German, Dial Clock, or Wag on the Wall. This is a nice early movement with feet extending behind the mounting board, and with wooden plates and arbors and brass wheels. Best part is the dial, which, despite a significant warp is not cracked and retains original decorations and hands; picture at top is of a young girl pouring milk for 4 kittens in a barn {+2 black cats near her feet}. The weights are from an American OG and the pendulum is new. Height of dial is 13". Runs and strikes. $100-200

C.1920, Sessions Regulator No. 2, General Store clock with restorations. The top cornice and bottom trim are new, applied with dry wall screws. The Calumet tablet is also new. The balance of the clock, including both labels is old. It is running & attractive. Height 33" $150-200

C.1838, C. & N. Jerome, Bristol, Conn, Round side clock. Dial appears to be new. The two glasses are replacements and the lock on the door is missing also. Clock retains original card label which many times is missing. Height 22" $250-350.

C.1835, Boardman & Wells for Hiram Hunt, Bangor, Maine Carved Column clock. The 30-hour brass bushed wooden movement and dial are original to the clock. Clock has beautiful carved columns and a carved pineapple crest. The clock has a replaced lower tablet done on old glass. The main door has unfortunately been reveneered, with the veneer going in the wrong direction. {long way rather than across} The base veneer was done the same way. Height 35" $350-450

C.1876, Southern Calendar Co., St. Louis, Missouri., Fashion No. 2 calendar clock in fair condition, with restorations. The outer bezels and base have lost their walnut veneer, and been stained to match the rest of the case; center finial tip missing. Both dials were papered over around 20 years ago and are discoloring; calendar hand is a replacement. In original condition, we would expect this clock to bring around $1500 Height 31" $550-750

C.1878 Southern Calendar Clock Co., St. Louis, Missouri. Fashion calendar No. 4. This clock is in nice restored condition, but will need some additional attention. Both dials have been repainted {nice job} and two finials have lost part of the their tips; center finial is in 2 pieces and needs gluing; base molding with a chip. The egg shape calendar gear for the movement is off the clock and in a bag with its drive gear; this will require professional attention. Calendar hand is a replacement and a bit loose on the shaft. The clock has nice nickel plated damascene pendulum. Attractive item that you can finish into a $2500 clock. Height 32 " $1000-1500

a C.1880 Ithaca Calendar Clock Co., Ithaca, N.Y.: INDEX double dial calendar clock. The door glass appears to be new and a small gingerbread top piece has been replaced [whoever made this little top piece didn't know what it should look like, and he didn't do too bad with his guess]. The clock has its original nickel plated pendulum and hanger. Compare this early "Index" clock to lot 407, the later model. This one has the nicely carved splats on the side instead of turned half columns. Original dials and rollers; some discoloration on top dial. A very attractive clock, that can be improved with modest restoration. Height 33" $1200-1600

C.1890, German, Gustav Becker, 2-weight with bim-bam gong strike, as-found. This clock came to us from storage and is absent glass except over the dial. It has an interesting 2-note strike mechanism with a helper spring added behind the rear plate {not all that uncommon on Beckers at this time}. Many repairmen removed the device, as it does require set-up., ie you have to start a new cord with the spring wound down etc. Note the dial center has been changed to a plain piece of brass and painted gold; bob with a couple of dents; weights with cup-hooks that need replacing; crutch poorly repaired with solder, but can be saved by a good workman; dirty. Height 44" $400-600

C.1900, English, Fusee Skeleton Clock with passing strike and dome. The cord had broken on this clock when it arrived, and we tied a knot in it and it took off running {will need replacing for long term use}. Has an attractive rafter frame design and a silvered dial; the round wooden base with an ivory center, now with the name of Dent, Bow St, London [note clock not made nor sold by Dent]. Height of clock and base 13½", total with dome, 15¼". [Dome shows in detail image] $750-1000

a C.1900, English, Fusee Skeleton Clock with passing strike, less dome. The clock is mounted to its original oval wooden base, now with C.1840, carved wooden paw feet, gilded. Seems to run and strike OK, but the movement appears dry and would certainly benefit from oiling; hands are a bit loose. Ht 15 ½" $700-900

b C.1890, Tiffany & Co., New York, signed on movement and dial, a once elegant marble and bronze clock. Note the bottom left return has the last couple inches of marble missing. The crystal is cracked and only one strap is holding the movement in {second one is inside the case}. This clock is well made and can be brought back to its former glory. Retains finely pierced and engraved hands and original pendulum #8130 matches movement serial number. The main case is sound and with finely detailed cast friezes of Romans in Egypt. Runs OK but needs cleaning. Weighs 50 lb. Height 18" $300-400

C.1840, Mass area Weight Banjo, with restorations. This must be the 3rd dial on this clock, based on the extra holes in the case; this dial probably from 1910 or so. This case retains original hinged throat and lower door. Worst part is the hour pipe and gear which have been poorly repaired with soft solder - a good machinist could make a new hub/spoke assembly. Amazingly it runs as-is. Ht 34" $500-700

Mixed banjo lot:, a C.1855 banjo movement, now in a C.1920 case, painted gray and with new rope front throat and door. Bezel latch is broken. It has a great $200 set of Mt. Vernon tablets, and is cosmetically attractive. Use as parts or enjoy as-is. Ht 34" $400-600

C.1855 Attleboro, Mass area banjo, with restorations. The movement is of the same period, but not original to the case; period dial and with Bristol area shelf clock hands. Throat glass original; lower glass new. Not a bad looking weight banjo; ht 28½" $500-750

C.1840, Mass.Unknown Maker Banjo clock. Lower tablet of American eagle is painted on old glass. The throat and lower door are new along with the plinth; finial is from a Seth Thomas pillar and scroll. Movement, hands and dial appear to be original to the case. Has been in storage and would benefit from service. Despite restorations, a very attractive clock. Height 37" $500-700

C.1850, J. C. Brown Forestville, CT , 8-day beehive clock in generally good original condition. Clock retains nice dial with a little paint damage near the left winding hole along with original hands. Movement is stamped Forestville; needs a new suspension wire. Case is veneered in rosewood with no veneer damage. Label is dark but readable, and with a tear. Except for the cut glass tablet, which is a proper hand-made replacement, this is a good original clock. One of the better Saturday night clocks. Height 18¾" $300-500

C.1948, Lux Clock Mfg Co., Waterbury, Conn, Organ Grinder and Monkey animated alarm clock, in generally good original condition with superb dial. The black and chrome case has some minor rust and the black paint is worn from the sides, a result of holding the clock to wind it. The main shaft of the organ and the grinder’s hand are attached to the ‘scape wheel pivot and turn some with each tick of the clock. Ticks, & alarms loudly; winders and set knobs intact. Height 4 ½" $125-175

C.1949, Keebler Clock Co., Philadelphia, Pa, Organ Grinder and Bear animated alarm clock, in generally good original condition with superb dial. The light metallic green case shows wear, and is missing its’ 4 rubber cushion feet, and with paint loss along the edges. The main shaft of the organ and the grinder’s hand are attached to the ‘scape wheel pivot and turn some with each tick of the clock. Ticks, + alarms loudly; winders and set knobs intact. Typical Lux movement. Ht 4" $125-175

C.1935, Lux Clock Mfg Co., Waterbury, Conn., animated desk clock "HAPPY DAYS", with two beer drinkers standing either side of a large beer barrel, labeled "3 point 2", the left drinker's arm is supposed to lift his mug to his lips as it ticks, but is jammed….will need attention. The dial itself has turned a tan color from age, and has a water stain on the left margin, but is still quite colorful. A desirable model. Height 3 ¾" $100-150

C.1905, German, Gustav Becker, Berlin style free swinger, with restoration, as-found. The movement of this clock was cleaned may be 20 years ago by "assembled immersion" and is very gummy. You can eek a "tick" out of it and the springs are both still good. The walnut case has been refinished, is missing a straight molding across the door, and the top trim is new, of solid walnut, and a bit too small for the clock. The well made solid plate movement has cut pinions and bears serial number 1,888,605 plus Becker's medal of honor. The floral pattern on the pendulum matches the dial center. With label of Max Busse, Uhrmacher, Berlin. Will respond to restoration. Height 34" $350-450

C.1895, German, "F.M.S." Berlin style free swinger, with restorations. The top trim [all 15"] was made around 20 years ago of solid walnut {not a bad job really}. The balance of the clock is original and in very good condition; note embossed dial center with flowers and the pendulum with an embossed lady in a swing. If this had been all original, we would have expected it to bring around $1000. Ht 45" $500-700

C.1880, German, Gustav Becker, 2-weight wall regulator in the Alt Deutsch style, as-found. This is a fabulous LOOKING clock, with great burled walnut veneer, and original finish {dirty}. But the movement is not original to the case {fits OK}; there are extra holes behind the movement. Having said that, this is a good early Becker movement with his early fancy hands. From storage, this will need cleaning and suspension spring prior to operation. Some nicks and scrapes; pendulum with center dent; +ht 53" $500-700

C.1900, French, for Tiffany & Co., {dial signature weak and partially rubbed off}, 4-glass crystal regulator in good original condition. The porcelain dial is otherwise very good with no chips nor cracks and the case retains much of its gold wash. Beveled glass is good, except for two minor, internal cracks on side glasses only {barely noticeable}. Quality round movement by Pons is complete and sound, but would benefit from cleaning. Original mercury pendulum retains xlnt gilding; vials intact. Very well made; movement and pendulum numbered 981. Ht 11" $300-400

Mixed lot: A 3-weight grand sonnerie clock, on which the case back and sides are old, but the bottom, top and door have been newly made in Hungary after the Baroque style. Moreover, it has a good Viennese movement, which has been married to a nice embossed Becker dial with matched embossing on weights and pendulum. This is a GOOD looking clock, and seems to run and strike OK {could stand service}, and we have it in this position in the sale to appeal to the person who could not afford a 100% antique Baroque clock, which seem to bring over $2500. Height 51" $1000-1500

a Mixed lot: a C.1900 Junghans 2-Weight movement in a new Hungarian 2nd Baroque case. We looked at this long and hard and the carving is exceptional and 100 years from now, no-one will know the difference. When you shine a flash light down the seam along the back you can see that the side stretchers are newly cut, and there is no dirt nor fly specs on the case. Has a nice match engraved dial center, pendulum and weights. If this clock were all original, it would be worth $2000, and we are basing our estimate on the value of the movement set-up and a new case. If the lack of originality does not bother you, this is a very good looking clock. Height 47" $700-900

C.1890, German 1/4 Striking 2-weight wall regulator in the Alt Deutsch style, as-found. This clock came from storage and was missing weights and pulleys, and we are providing new ones. The dial had a major chip at 8 which has been repaired, and the bezel with a bend as well. The case is quite attractive and with original finish and retains original [and super] top piece. But the best part is the movement, which {when cleaned} will give you bim-bam quarter striking on two straight steel rods. Movement is original to the case; these are uncommon, and the estimate reflects the restoration needed. Height 51" $600-800

C.1870, Austrian, 1-Weight Vienna Regulator in transitional style with 4 inward facing finials. This clock is another that came to us from storage in Lucerne, Switzerland. The top and finials are recent {well done by a Swiss cabinet maker}; movement is dirty and suspension spring needs re-newing {about one buck for a spring}. The well made Viennese movement is dirty but sound and will clean up nicely. Perfect porcelain dial. Lots of "look" for the money. Ht 46" $400-600

C.1910, Swiss, Henri Blanc, Geneva, a well made quarter striking walnut wall clock. This clock got shaken up a bit in shipment and one of the two coiled gongs broke off and will need replacement. The movement itself is very nicely made with thick plates and cut pinions and Graham escapement with adjustable pallets. With interesting nouveau style pendulum. Runs but would benefit from service. Some restoration will pay big dividends on this extremely attractive clock; height 42" $400-600

C.1868, German, Gustav Becker 2-weight wall regulator in the Alt Deutsch style. This is a fairly early Becker, serial number 111989, and has his early style 8" dial with first pattern hands. The movement is original to the case, but the mounting bracket has been moved down about a half inch for some reason [an extra set of holes is just visible]. The case itself has been refinished and could use some more attention. Note great book matched veneer in case back. There is no indication the clock ever had a top, or it was perhaps glued on and has broken away-- can't tell. Height 40" $500-700

C.1890, German, 2-Weight "Vienna Regulator", with restorations. Note the top trim is newly made by a creative cabinet maker, and stained to look old. The movement is a high quality 80 beat unit, with seconds hand, no maker ID, but with serial #96982; movement is original to the case. The fired porcelain dial is original and in perfect condition, as is the bezel. Internet viewers will see that the lacquer on the bob is discolored, but there are NO dents and the bob will polish nicely. We see clocks similar to this bringing $1000 on eBayâ, and feel our estimate accurately reflects the collector market; will need cleaning prior to use. Height 54" $500-700

C.1890, Mixed Lot: A good Lenzkirch 2-weight movement, serial #1,201,322, hands, bracket, pendulum, pulleys and case back , now in a later German case of lower quality, the glue joints having failed and needing attention. The second hand is missing {Timesavers carries a good one, #13018}. Old weights do not match; gong has broken off the standard. Case back has book matched burled veneer. Your options are to finish restoring this clock, or use the movement assembly in a better case. Height 53" $400-600

C.1880, German, 1-Weight "Vienna Regulator", as-found in fair to poor condition. The case has been wet, back warped a bit and case refinished poorly; no stabilizers; tip of rt finial missing. Movement is dirty; needs suspension spring {$2}. Having said all of that, it is a well made movement, original to case, with maintaining power, a good dial and original hands, weight, pulley, pend. {tail of minute hand is broken off}. For the beginning collector, this would be a good looking starter regulator for something under $500. Height 44" $350-450

C.1900, German, Gustav Becker, 2-Weight wall regulator in Alt Deutsch style. This clock is generally in good condition, from storage in Lucerne. The top has been restored and the dowels have been replaced in the finials; the eagle is a replacement. The movement is Becker's typical high quality unit with maintaining power, and seconds hand; the porcelain dial is perfect with "G-B" trademark and hands and pendulum are original as well. The bottom of the case has a repair sticker from Lausanne, Switzerland, and the "gut" still looks OK. Height 53" $600-800

C.1850, French, Gilt Spelter with bronze accents, figural clock, hunter motif. This clock has been disassembled and sprayed gold. The spelter hunter has a heavy coat of copper that is oxidized, and the plume for his hat and his flint-lock rifle are ormolu. Note he is holding his dead prey – a pheasant. The well made bell strike movement has a silk thread suspension, and runs and strikes. The tip of the minute shaft will need attention, as a soft retainer pin has been sheared off even with the shaft and needs drifting out; amazingly the original hands have not gotten lost. This clock has an elegant look for this price range; height 18½" $175-275

C.1865, French, Berrolla, Paris, unusual open frame clock, less dome. All supports {front and back}, dial plate and pendulum are profusely engraved with deep scroll pattern engraving. This clock suffered some transit damage and the bezel has a front to back bend that is pushing the dial into the hands {correctable}. The quality bell strike movement is signed Berrolla a' Paris, as is the 9" porcelain dial. The fancy pendulum appears to have had a mid pendulum adjustment that has been disabled in favor of bottom adjustment. This is a large and impressive clock that merits your attention for restoration; ht 19" $750-1000

C.1850, Massachusetts Banjo clock with restorations. The movement appears original to the case. The pendulum stick is a mid-20th century replacement and looks OK. The Mt. Vernon tablets are "home-made" and on the primitive side. The fruitwood case has rosewood graining that is in decent shape. Looks to be a period dial. With an old repair label from a Philadelphia jeweler. Not a bad looking weight banjo. Height 29" $500-750

C.1890, German, Lenzkirch, 2-Weight "Vienna Regularot", as found. Although the well made movement is original to the case, the case itself is quite dirty and the 'top' trim is newly made out of a veneered drawer front with added trim. Pendulum with some dents. Attractive book matched veneer in back; original case hardware intact. Signed movement is serial number 1,062,161; hammer is distressed, bezel with side dent; fancy gong intact. Lots of potential; height 54" $400-600

C.1890, Vienna 3-Weight Regulator in generally good condition. Movement needs cleaning, but this is by far the best Vienna selling today {Saturday}. Movement is original to the case, and with original hands, pulleys, weights and good porcelain dial. The case has had a couple of moldings replaced, but is generally original; has some sticky stain on the base that makes it look darker; couple small dents in bob; should clean up with a minimum of effort. Ht 53" $1000-1500

C.1840, English, Fusee Drop Dial in good original condition but lacking pendulum. The bezel has cracked and been glued, but the original painted dial is good, as well as the hands. Has a well made movement with heavy baluster pillars and shaped plates {see detail}. The mahogany case has string brass in lay with floral corners. Ht 19" $250-350

C.1910, Seth Thomas "10-Inch Octagon Gilt" in good original condition. There are a couple of minor flakes on the original dial, and some wear to the numerals, however, clock retains original finish, gilding, tablet, label, pend etc. Note the dial has separated from the bezel and will need attention. Interestingly, the label has an extra red stamp: "Made in America". An ever-popular model. Height 21 ½" $200-250

C.1900, German, Berlin Style "Free Swinger", as-found. Despite lacking the 8" top piece, the balance of the clock is all original and sound. The finish is a bit crazed and dirty, and the movement needs service {does run}. Note dial center and pendulum with Art Nouveau pattern. Has potential. Height 25" $350-550

C.1885, French, Japy, Fancy Black marble clock, with bronze columns standing all around the curved sides, and surmounted with a roman soldier with staff in his right hand. The well made Japy movement striking the hours and halves on a gong; movement sound but would benefit from service. The case itself is complete, but the base molding has several chips that will need attention, and a shadow appears where there was once a presentation plaque. Other than the last items, the case is excellent and smooth. Fancy dial with gilt bronze center. Heavy; special shipping required; height 18" $300-500

C.1885, N. Muller's Sons, New York. An unusual brass, onyx and iron clock by one of Americas most artistic makers. The back is cast iron, the sides, front and top are heavy cast brass, machined to shape, and the front with two inserts of green/black onyx. The porcelain dial suffered and has a chip at 3 and the dial center has cracks. Note open escapement on dial, and unique fast/slow adjustment below the center shaft. The 8-day movement of basic Connecticut design has open springs, and strikes the hours and halves on a cathedral gong. Heavy and well made; runs fine. Ht 14 ½" $275-375

C.1880, F. Kroeber, New York, "Cabinet #5" in fair to good original condition.. Here are the hurts: top side fenders missing, hands, dial/bezel assembly from another clock. The balance of the case and the movement are original and note the wonderful rear label. The patient workman can bring this clock back. Does run and strike; height 12 ½" $175-275

C.1880, F. Kroeber, New York, "WINONA" walnut parlor clock in good condition, with original cut glass pendulum. There is a small 2" piece of carved molding that has been replaced top right side {notice it is a little darker than the rest of the case}, and the case has been refinished, and the dial re-papered. The clock is otherwise complete and sound, with full rear instruction label and with model label about 85%. The large Kroeber movement in good running order, however the top half of the winding stops has been removed by a workman who did not know how to set them. Would be $500 if original. Ht 20" $175-275

a C.1890 F. Kroeber Clock Co., New York, N.Y., FLORETTA, 8-day walnut shelf clock. The clock has a new 5" paper dial and the case has been stripped of its finish, and with some steel wool marks on the walnut. Best features are a signed beat scale {xlnt} and a Jacot's regulator pendulum with some wear on its paper dial. Retains nice original tablet. Would be $400 if the finish was original. Height 20" $175-275

C.1910, German, Spring Driven Wall regulator in a walnut case with an earlier top {looks OK}. The brass dial center has Art Nouveau designs, and the pendulum is embossed with a lovely Nouveau lady with roses in her hair. The 8-day movement with count wheel strike is dirty, but complete and sound. Ht 38" $250-350

a C.1900, German "R-A" Wall Regulator, rod strike in generally good restored condition. The walnut case has been refinished; retains old top and finials. The well made Kienzle movement has solid plates and cut pinions, runs and strikes OK, but would benefit from service. Porcelain dial is perfect; hands original. One molding on the very top has split and been reglued. Height 44" $275-375

b C.1876, Seth Thomas Sons & Co., New York, TUCKER BRONZE, as-found. See detail image; this clock is missing part of the finial on top and the bottom of the finial has been reversed to make it look complete; clock is missing a pendulum. Otherwise it is complete and sound, ticks and strikes on a bell. Worth $350 if complete; height 12" $150-200

C.1870, German, Berlin style weight regulator in the style of 1840 Vienna regulator. These slim cases with brass inlay or zinc decorations are most often seen in the Berlin area. This case is in a bit of distress, the brass inlay is loose and the top molding is missing. Best part is a 15 day movement with extra large great wheel. Some small chips around the winding hole, otherwise the porcelain dial is fine. Weight is distressed; pulley homemade. Height 38" Would be $1000 if original $400-600

C.1890, German, 1-weight Wall Regulator in the Viennese style. Not a bad looking clock, but the movement has been improperly assembled with the maintaining pawl behind the great wheel, and causing it to bind. Nothing is broken, but the movement will have to be taken down and re-assembled to put it in operation. The movement is well made with seconds bit and fancy porcelain dial with red fleur-de-lis trim between the numerals. Finally, the movement is not original to the case, extra holes showing the previous installation. Will make into a good looking decorator Vienna; height 47" $400-500

C.1880, German, 1-weight Wall Regulator in the Viennese style. This is a GREAT looking clock with original carved top and finish. And it has a well made Gustav Becker movement, serial number 396688. However, this is the second movement in the case, and there is an extra set of holes in the case back. Although such a change bothers the purist, these cases were all the same basic dimensions, and any standard 80 beat German movement will operate perfectly in the case. Movement retains original hands, pendulum, and early brass roller winding crank. Right case glass is loose [not broken] and needs attaching; there are hairlines on the dial visible on close inspection. Ht 48" $500-700

C.1890, Austrian, Gebruder Resch, Remember trademark "2-Weight Vienna Regulator". The top has been recently made of old moldings and doesn't look too bad. Rest of clock is in good original condition. The well made movement, serial number 271,307, with remember trademark, clean and running, with a board on the back of the case for reinforcement; hands are modern German replacements; pend stick new. The dial has some hairline cracks, but nothing too objectionable. Ht 49" $500-750

a C.1850, Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, a 30 hour 2-weight OOG in very good condition. Has a very nice reproduction floral tablet with no flaking, original wooden dial with absolutely no touch-up and a good label that is a bright as a new dollar. There is evidence of a couple of minor veneer repairs, but overall the crotch mahogany is very good, nicely rubbed out. Ht 25" $125-175

b C.1910, German, Hamburg-American Clock Co., miniature 30-hour "R-A" wall regulator in a walnut case with cast door trim and a cast female bust on the top, and all in good original condition. There are minor nicks and scrapes to the case and to the paper dial, but this is basically as-found and a good "beginner level" clock. Height 24" $175-275

c C.1890, German, Walnut Wall Regulator with "R-A" pendulum, restored. The case has been refinished and the finials newly turned by a very good cabinet maker. The well made movement has solid plates and cut pinions; good porcelain chapter ring, but the dial center has been replaced with a piece of painted tin {you can't tell until you tap it}; bezel has a small dent on one side. Strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong. In all original condition, these have been bringing around $700, so our estimate reflects the restoration. Height 37" $275-375

d C.1915, E. Ingraham & Co., NYANZA time-piece banjo in very good original condition. The only things that keeps this from being excellent are a couple of small dings in the pendulum. Retains original dial, tablets, hands, and signed Ingraham key. From a home in Methuen; a great beginners banjo clock; ht 39" $350-450

e C.1920, Sessions "Home Assortment" mini store regulator in excellent original condition. Retains original dial, hands, pendulum, tablet, label and finish. 8-day time and strike. Another great beginner's clock. Height 19" $175-275

f C.1900, E. N. Welch for the Colby Wringer Company, a good original 8-day walnut gingerbread clock. Someone recently removed both rear labels which is a mystery to me {the old glue is still clean}. The original dial is a bit faded. This is an alarm model with all components intact. The pendulum, made on special order by Welch, has "Colby Wringer Co" cast right in; the glass insert is intact. A good looking Welch walnut, complete with all trim and knobbies. Will need cleaning. Ht 22" $150-200

g C.1900, E. Ingraham & Co., "Dew Drop" timepiece in generally good condition. The case retains its original rosewood graining over poplar. Label is absent, and the dial has been re-papered; dial pan, movement, hands, etc original. Height 23½" $200-300

h C.1900, Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock in good as-found condition. This clock needs cleaning, but is complete and sound with the cello veneer in good condition. Color is light mottled brown. Label on rear. Ht 10 ½" $100-150

i C.1885, Seth Thomas City Series OMAHA in oak, in generally good original condition. The top left return trim has been newly made [looks OK]. At first we thought the tablet was incorrect, however, the "Denver" model uses this tablet, and such items were often offered as options. The finish and gilding are all original; inside label is a bit chewed up by someone who wound the clock weekly and tossed the key back inside. Dial is original and pendulum correct. Ht 19" $200-300

j C.1900, German, Musical Wall Clock in the Alt Deutsch style. This is an attractive case with original finish and finials {eagle is a replacement}. The small cylinder music box and time movement are attached to another spacer of walnut that is screwed to the backboard, so we are unsure if the movement is original. These points aside, it seems to run fine, and plays a delightful tune on the hour. Note the music box is driven by the large "strike" spring, rather than a separate movement and is really rather ingenious. Height 39" $400-500

k C.1900, French, Oak Oval Frame wall clock with hand carvings top and bottom. Note the top carving had come off at some time and the Frenchman who put it back on had consumed too much wine, and it is over 2" to the right of center. Otherwise this is a LARGE and interesting clock, with a 12" dial and 33" overall length. Retails a good French movement and strikes the hours and halves on a gong. Note porcelain numeral III is turned slightly in photo -- it is not damaged. Ht 33" $225-325

m C.1900, French, for the English market sold by J. J. Wainwright & Co., Cambridge St, Birmingham; name on barometer dial and inside rear dust cover. This is a time and strike clock with defective lever platform. The iron case is sound with no breaks, barometer seems Ok, dial is perfect, thermometer intact. You will need to invest in a new platform. Height 25" $175-275

Mixed lot: a C.1850 Howard and Davis movement, now in a C1985 oversize case. We have seen a half dozen of these 4½ foot cases floating around, but are unsure who made them. The case workmanship is generally good, but the Republicans would certainly outlaw the marriage of movement and case. The movement is for a #4 banjo and has been installed upside down, the crutch rotated 180° {note it winds at 7 now}. Good parts for other clocks. Height 52" $400-600

C.1915, Seth Thomas Chime Clock No. 1, Special, 4-bell sonora in good original condition. There are some corner and edge chips to the adamantine veneer. The cream colored porcelain dial is excellent. You may see full details on the No. 1 in Ly's Seth Thomas book {1996}, page 212, including photos of the #89 time and strike movement and the #90 chime movement. Minor variation is that this case has ball feet used on the standard #1. Height 13½" $350-450

C.1920, Wm L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Model 220-A" black mantle alarm clock in excellent original condition. This was only a $4 clock when new, and this one looks like it spent most of its life in a drawer. There are very minor nicks and scrapes, not objectionable; dial is like new and finish is original. Its only shortcoming is that it is fully wound and only ticks and stops; the alarm rings loudly, and with a selector for "Stop, Intermittent, or Continuous". This is a canister alarm held in a black lacquered poplar case by screws from the rear. Cute little clock for the beginning collector. Height 8 ¼" $90-120

C.1930, Belgian, Pigeon Timer in original oak lock box, both with serial number 17409. This is a 12 pigeon recorder, and 8 of the tiny aluminum canisters for the pigeons leg are still intact inside. Uses circular graph paper for recording, but no sheets are present. Although pigeon racing is popular here, it is the Rage in Asia, and a champion pigeon can bring $10,000 for breeding stock. Brand name "Belgica" Canister = 6"; height of box 7" $200-300

C.1895, Ansonia, Oak Gingerbread clock, nicely restored and in good running order. The case has been professionally refinished to golden oak, and retains original tablet and dial. Rear label is absent. This case predates the steam pressed models, and is well cut with incising, no replaced moldings. The dial is darkened slightly from age, but still fully legible. A great clock for the beginning collector. Height 22" $125-175

C.1880, French, a good Walnut Cartel clock with double reeded side columns and banister style top. This is roughly the same time period as lot 26 & 27. The movement is a robust unit with solid square plates and anchor escapement. The twelve porcelain numerals are attached to a round wooden dial, and the hands are pierced brass; some old wood worm damage in the lower part of the case; no evidence of activity at this point. Generally very good condition. Height 23" $300-500

C.1850, Austrian, Late Biedermeier one weight timepiece, restored. This clock and those that immediately follow were sent by a retail clock shop that has cleaned and restrung the clocks, made minor repairs and the clocks are running. The crank is a bit too large in diameter for this one which makes winding difficult, but the dial is xlnt, nice early five point pulley. The pendulum stick has a scab repair near the top. Super early beat scale; case stabilizers intact. Ht 39" $600-800

Mixed Lot, German, C.1880, Gustav Becker 2-weight movement, serial 482797, now in a C.1920 deco style oak veneered case with 5 panes of beveled glass. Has single straight rod strike. The movement is mounted on a ¾" board in the back of the case. Glaze coat over dial is failing and the numerals are fading; other minor hairlines. New pulleys. Movement is clean and running. Height 33" $300-400

Mixed lot: C.1910, Gustav Becker 2-weight movement, with original hands, dial and seconds bit, now in a C. 1925 mahogany case, with 3 panes of heavy beveled glass {note one weight is out of view behind a walnut pillar}. This is also the second movement to be installed in this case, as there is an extra set of holes in the back. New Pulleys. Clean and running. Ht 37" $300-400

C.1920, Austrian, Gebruder Resch {Remember} 2-weight wall regulator in very good original condition, clean and running. Has nice old embossed pulleys and melodious rod strike. The walnut veneer over pine case has an attractive ripple molding surrounding the dial. A good example of clocks from this era; running. Ht 34¼" $400-600

Mixed lot: C.1880 Gustav Becker 2-weight movement, serial #795227, now in a C.1920 golden oak case with 6 panes of heavy beveled glass in a brass frame. The dial, hands and pendulum appear refinished in the 20's style with some black stenciling; brass covered weights are plain. Many clocks were "updated" in the 20's, the movement put in a more modern case such as this….. and many of the Victorian cases had been damaged in WWI. Minor nicks and scratches in case; clean and running. Height 34¾" $400-600

C.1880, Austrian, 2-weight "Vienna" in the Alt Deutsch style. This is another in this series of clocks from a retail shop that has been cleaned and seems to be running. However, the movement is not original to the case {fits fine}. It is a well made Viennese movement. The top to the walnut case is old, but from another clock {second set of holes}, however it looks OK. A good looking decorative clock for someone unconcerned over the restorations. Height 37" $400-600

Mixed lot: C.1885, Austrian, Remember 2-weight movement, now in a C.1920 mahogany art deco style case with 5 panes of beveled glass in an attractive oval pattern. 144 A C.1920, Lenzkirch 2-weight Grandfather clock MOVEMENT, for which a tall case has been made, C.1991 by Varne Kimmick. The Edwardian lines of the case hide the fact that it is made of solid walnut and very heavy. The trim moldings are from Carpenter's Supply, adapted to fit the case. Two of the chime rods {standard dimension} are broken off and in the bottom of the case. Otherwise the clock is complete and sound and in running order. The heavy well made movement bears the Lenzkirch trademark, as does the gong assembly. Our estimate figures around $300 for the movement and the balance for the case. Height 82" $400-600

C.1840, Birge, Mallory & Co., Bristol, Conn., triple decker clock. This clock has had a lot of restoration. The eagle splat and parts of the top are new. The doors appear to have been stripped of their veneer and new veneer applied in the wrong direction along with the addition of moldings to support the glass. The feet and finials may be incorrect. The weights are not original. The center tablet is exceptional {with some flakes}, the lower tablet painted on old glass to match the center. It has a signed strap brass movement, nice dial and hands not a bad looking clock; very nice label. Height 40" $500-700

C.1909 Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., ETON model. This 8-day mahogany mantle clock was made for Shreve, Crump & Low Company, Boston. The clock still has its old crackled finish and a pretty inlay and brass feet. The porcelain dial has a small flake in the margin above 1 that can be dealt with. A very pretty clock. Height 10" $100-200

C.1890 Ingraham Clock Co., Bristol, Conn. Liberty Walnut shelf clock, 8-day T/S/Alarm with restoration. This clock is in nice condition with original glass of the Statute of Liberty. 150 C.1955, German, {Lot of two} mechanical bird cages, with a pair of singing birds inside. These birds are from a home on Long Island and have been setting on a shelf for many years. Height 10½" $175-275 both

C.1870, E. N. Welch, 30-hour Steeple in good condition. The case has been stripped and needs more finish and there are a few veneer chips, and some veneer repairs. However, the dial, hands, & label are original. The old tablet, for the English market, is of the Royal Crest, with rearing lion and unicorn either side of the crown – it has some flaking, and has been re-blacked from the rear, but is still pretty good. Generally in good condition, a little case work will improve it a lot. Running and striking; height 19 ¼" $125-175

C.1900, German, Quarter Striking Walnut bracket clock in architectural style, and in fair to good condition. This clock runs OK, and retains original finish, but suffered some wood worm damage some time ago {none appear to be active}, mostly in the molding surrounding the front door. The walnut veneer has very attractive grain. Ht 15" $175-275

We could not find the movement listed in any of the Seth Thomas books, but looks like their work, screws, pendulum, hands, etc. The case is in good condition, although it has a heavy coat of spar varnish, as it had been mounted out doors on a garage. Still runs. Height 18" $300-400

C.1820, Austrian, 2-Train Mantel clock, needing work. Some one made a pendulum out of a brooch and wire which will need replacing. The gold leaf portions have been crudely brushed with gold paint. The dial was originally porcelain, is now painted card stock, and stained; outer bezel missing altogether; hands do not match. Interestingly, the little shadow box at top still has its original dried flowers and there is a print at top of Vienna and the Danube River, and a print in the base of a Royal Castle. This clock is a real project, but could be restored to elegance by a patient workman. Height 25" $275-375

C.1820, Austrian, 3-Tr Grand Sonnerie mantel clock, as-found. This clock is generally quite good compared to the previous lot; retains original dial and hands [tip of minute hand broken away]; bezel and crystal intact. The only major defect is the pendulum, now an American bob on a wire. The 2 little shadow boxes retain their silk flowers and the center reverse painting of a castle is intact. Dial chips around winding holes. Height 25" $750-1000

C.1900, German, Picture Frame clock with reverse painted dial and scene on glass. Has a typical 30 hour wooden plate movement with brass wheels. Weights are old; chains and pendulum are new. 169 C.1901 Ansonia Clock Co., Ansonia, Conn., TRIUMPH walnut parlor clock, alarm, with restoration. The entire base [bottom 3"] was newly made by a local industrial arts teacher who copied an original exactly and matched the color very well with the rest of the case. A student then installed the 2 movements with new phillips screws {an easily correctable situation}. Old dial is dark. Stud of one of the old statues has broken off; otherwise original and running. Fragments of label on rear. Height 25" $200-300

C.1940, James Remind-O-Clock, 110 volt which can be set to illuminate a light at 5 minute intervals in a twelve hour period. 181d C.1950, German, novelty "Flower Clock", the dial of which is the center of the silk flower. Note this lot and the next lot have both had new plastic leaf/silk flowers attached to the original dial stem. The dial is in good condition and the movement ticks and stops. 181g C.1913, Seth Thomas ANDES Adamantine shelf clock in fair to good condition. Several corners have missing adamantine veneer; gold plated ornaments have wear, and the cello dial is very dark due to oil from the movement and will need replacing. 181h C.1890, E. N. Welch, Walnut Gingerbread in generally good condition except as noted: the case has been refinished, door knob and latch are new; the alarm mechanism is missing. Retains original dial {with some wear}, orig tablet and pendulum with glass center. Height 23" $150-200

i C.1925, Sessions "Washington" 8-day time and strike banjo, in fair as-found condition, but has potential. Although this clock runs, it has lots of aesthetic problems…..a home made bracket that is quite remedial; chunk of porcelain missing from the dial and touched up with wrong shade paint. Worm holes in the back board; one pane of bevel glass with chip. Still a lot of clock for the money. Ht 33" $225-325

C.1925, Ingraham NYANZA banjo clock, as-found with incorrect restorations. Bottom tablet should be black and gold, not a ship. Hands fit but are incorrect. Parts for the banjo restorer. Height 39" $90-120

C.1929, Seth Thomas, Banjo No. 2, in a mahogany case with naval battle tablets, and in need of work. Height 23½" $175-275

C.1880, Waterbury Clock Co., Mini OOG, 30-hour with restorations. 196 Mixed Lot, Vienna Case {originally had a weight movement}, now with a shorter spring driven movement, and top from yet a third clock [and the sides cut off to fit]. Although there are some nicks and scrapes in the case, it is not bad. Note the original movement was mounted about 2 inches higher and the false top to the door has been added. This clock came to us from a collector who bought it on eBayâ, and although many nice things are to be found on the eBay site, this is an example of a buyer not asking enough questions. No gong; well made movement; decent parts. Height 48" $175-275

Mixed Lot, Vienna Case and Bracket with earlier movement from another clock, as-found. This clock looks quite good in the photo, but is very dirty and needs the attention of a clockmaker. When they drilled the movement to fit the rear mount bracket, they left only the holes in the bottom pillars for attaching the cord. And the clock must have belonged to a person with vision impairment, as we have never seen so many scratches around the winding holes on a porcelain dial [no cracks, just wore the glaze coat]. This case was made C.1920 by a Swiss cabinet maker to match a set of furniture, and is well made but slightly different dimensions than a factory job. Old weights with poor home-made hooks. Amazingly ticks & strikes. Height 50" Movement is worth estimate $275-375

C.1900, Ansonia Referee Porcelain china clock, in cobalt blue, as-found, less pendulum and the case with top center chip. BUT the open escape movement and bezel assembly are virtually perfect and will fit any Ansonia China clock {including Bonn models}. Unlike movements from black iron or marble clocks, this unit will bolt right in your premium case. We expect a lot of interest in this item. Height 11" $175-275

Mixed lot: a C.1825 American wood movement in a C.1910, home-made country pine case, with a C. 1825 hood only, all as-found, in need of major restoration. A dog has chewed on the trunk transition molding, feet or skirt absent. The movement is complete, except no bell, no calendar hand, nor weights; minute shaft split and will need glue. Original dial is fair, with original numerals and decorations and will restore OK. Pendulum old but not correct. This project is not for the meek, but the clock can live again. Height 84" Movement is worth estimate $200-300

C.1940 with 1970 electrical update, SIMPLEX Time Recorder. The wind up movement has been electrified and with modern 110v cord. The lower punch mechanism is still original and intact. Seems to run OK, but you alone can decide whether to enjoy this as-is or find the parts to make it spring driven again. Wooden case painted black. Ht 30" $100-200

C.1880, Seth Thomas, Mini Octagon Top rosewood cottage clock in very good original condition. Retains original dial with virtually no flakes, original wavy glass in bezel and original mirror; good label. Time only Type A round movement, 30-hour, winds at 6; see Ly #1556. Just about as good as it gets; height 9" $150-200

C.1909, Seth Thomas, "Whitby", inlaid mantel clock in very good, as-found condition. This clock is from an attic in Southern Mass, and the original finish is crazed and darkened. Movement is complete and sound, and running, but would benefit from cleaning. The base board {that holds the gong} has cracked {repairable}. Retains original hands, pendulum, gong, and hardware throughout; dial perfect. Inlay does not show well in photo Ht 12" $175-275

C.1920, Ansonia "Dorval" Crystal Regulator in generally good condition. Both vials of the pendulum have cracks [but are still in one piece], and the right beveled glass has minor edge chips that only show on close inspection. The bonus is the fancy 3" porcelain dial with floral wreaths painted in polychrome. Was service maybe 20 years ago, but still runs and strikes OK. An attractive clock for the money. Height 8 ¾" $175-275
