001.  C.1939, Seth Thomas, "Stellar", in generally good original condition. This mahogany case has a few bumps and scrapes, and the latch for the bezel is not holding. We will be so brave as to quote only one sentence from the 1939 ST catalog: "With graceful sweeping contour and wavelike base molding, all enlivened with ship's wheel spokes and sash in bright polished brass, the Stellar will inject a nautical tang into any furnishing scheme." If that ad writer is still alive, we have a job for him! With pleasant 2-rod strike; movement is clean and running; inside label intact. Ht 9.25" $50--$75

002.  C.1929, New Haven Clock Co., "Willis", 8-day lever movement banjo timepiece in generally good original condition. This miniature mahogany banjo case retains its original finish. The porcelain dial has a small chip by 3. The original Mt. Vernon tablets are reverse painted and still good. Hands and all case hardware are original. Movement is complete and sound; ticks and stops. Ht 18.50" $75--$125

003.  C.1850, Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, Conn., 30-hour time/strike/alarm steeple clock, as-found. Cosmetically this is an eye appealing clock with good veneer and original finish; however a couple of negatives exist: the original alarm was held in with a bottom j hook [old vacant hole], now with block mount alarm, not hooked to mov't, and the hands are recent replacements; pendulum new. The tip of right finial is broken off. The 30 movement is interesting in that it has the remains of Geneva stops. The tablet is a very nice copy. Still looks good and runs fine; nice label. Ht 19.75" $100--$150

004.  C.1985, Clockwork, Inc, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, novelty 110v electric clock, with four well cut wooden gears, the seconds gear driven by a synchronous motor. Note steel pointers enable you to tell the time. Runs fine and would be great for a window display. The gears are made from cabinet grade plywood and show no signs of wear. Since this is serial number 1952, we have to assume they made a couple thousand of these, but we have never seen one before. Ht 33" $150--$200

005.  C.1870, Jerome & Co., 8-day gallery timepiece. This very attractive brass and leather covered timepiece, with milk glass buttons at each corner, and is in quite good condition for its age. The leather has a little damage near 1 o'clock and bezel latch. The painted dial has touch-up where the paint has flaked and the numbers have been strengthened in places. The minute hand is an old replacement and too short. Movement complete & ticking, but will need attention. Still an above average example of this model. Ht 12.50" $150--$250

006.  C.1870, Seth Thomas "Kitchen", mini bevel front shelf clock in generally good original condition. The only items that keeps this from being very good are the flaking rose tablet, and a veneer chip by the door sticky latch. Otherwise the clock retains original finish, good veneer, decent dial and crisp label. Ht= 15.75" $125--$175

007.  C.1885, F. Kroeber, NY, Walnut parlor clock in excellent restored condition. This clock has just been professionally restored and is running briskly for a full week, keeps good time, and striking well too. The walnut case has a top similar to the Occidental and side columns similar to the Texas model, but we do not find a direct reference to this particular model. The original tablet is etched with a flowering vine pattern; movement and gong signed F. Kroeber, NY. Ht 23" $250--$350

008.  C.1990, Galilea, quartz movement desk clock with calendar & moon phase. This interesting French made timepiece has a black hemisphere that rotates around a half section of a moonscape thereby showing visually the current phase of the moon. We have it set for a new moon in the image. Once you set the clock {and keep the battery fresh} it will display an accurate view of the current phase, ALONG with a 365 day calendar that is read in the base of the clock. These were retailed out of New York by a company called Sarut for over $100 and they are quite interesting and no longer available; in original box with manual. Ht 9.50" $90--$120

009.  C.1852, F. C. Andrews, Bristol, Conn., 30-hour time/strike OG shelf clock in good, original unrestored condition. There are some veneer chips on the flat outer edge of the case. The dial has a little paint loss near the strike winding hole, and is a bit dirty. Both glasses are original. The tablet by Wm B. Fenn is exceptional. The hour hand is replacement. There is part of an overpasted label that has enough left to indicate that this clock was probably marketed by Daniel Pratt & Sons, Boston. Ht 26" $150--$200

010.  C.1875, F. Kroeber Clock Co., New York, "Cabinet No. 54", 8-day time/strike walnut shelf clock, in good original condition. The finish on this clock has been rubbed down and polished. The original paper dial has turned slightly dark from age. But overall a clean original clock. Note rear label has abrasion but you can still make out pertinent info. The movement has been recently cleaned by Ray Brown of Manchester, Conn and is running OK. Ht 15" $250--$350

011.  C.1910, German, Gustav Becker, 2-weight 8-day "Vienna" movement with an Art Nouveau embossed dial center, pendulum and weights. The silvered chapter ring has Arabic numerals, and is a bit tarnished. The movement strikes on a single steel rod. The movement comes with a nice set of matching Art Nouveau weights, & pendulum, plus mounting bracket and period pulleys {note part of the applique is missing from one of the weights}. The pendulum is 25.5" from end to end, and the movement is a standard 80 beat, and fits a standard length case. $250--$350

012.  C.1910, German, Junghans, 2-weight 8-day "Vienna" movement with original embossed pendulum, weights, and pulleys. The dial is dirty and is in need of restoration. The movement strikes on a single steel rod. The pressed floral pattern in the dial center, weights and pendulum retains some original gilding and will clean up nicely. This is an 80 beat movement that fits a standard length case. $250--$350

013.  C.1920, Waterbury Clock Co., "Chime Clock No. 500", 8-day time/chime mahogany mantel clock, in generally good original condition. The finish on the case is crazed and there are some corner dings & minor scratches. The porcelain dial is in nice condition, and with large, easy to read Arabic numerals. The solid plate Westminster chime movement is properly signed; it has been out of the case and the lower mount needs tightening. The gong set, hands and case hardware are original. Runs and chimes but would benefit from cleaning/adjustment. Ht 16.25" $350--$450

014.  C.1913, Waterbury Clock Co., "Yeddo - 8 Inch", 8-day time & strike schoolhouse clock. The rosewood veneered case has a filled split in the right octant; otherwise retains old finish in good condition. All of the brass trim and pressed buttons are intact; tablet is original. The painted dial has been restored by the Dial House. Retains xlnt paper label within case, with instructions for operating the clock. Clean, and in running order; overall very good. Ht 19." $175--$275

015.  C.1848, Forestville Manufact'g Company, 8-day time & strike mahogany OOG shelf clock. The veneer is overall good, except for chips along the bottom band, and an old repair to veneer on the bottom of the door. The minute hand is an old replacement. The original movement is properly signed, and the wooden dial is signed "J. C. Brown". The two grommets for the winding holes are missing but are easily replaced. Both glasses are original with a wonderful tablet of the J. C. Brown house, which still stands across the street from the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol, Conn. A nice label with a picture of the Forestville plant is inside the case. A little veneer work will render this a great 8-day OOG. Ht 28.75" $200--$300

016.  C.1910, Ansonia Clock Co., "Regulator A", time only oak long drop school clock in generally good condition. There are a several chips in the veneer on the drop section, and a couple of repairs as well. {looks fine from a distance} The hands, mov't, tablet & pendulum are all original. The dial was re-papered long ago and has some age spots from hanging in a moist climate {from the service labels inside, it appears to have spent its life in Charlestown and Barnstable, Mass}. The case retains original paper label in the bottom of the case, with some tears. If you are handy with veneer, you can improve this clock significantly. Ht 32" $275--$375

017.  C.1897 {dated}, Seth Thomas Clock Co., NAVY, 8-day time/strike mantel clock. We could not find this specific clock in the catalog, but it is most similar to the "Travelers no. 2". The oak case has been refinished. The dial is clean, but with minor soiling around the winding holes, and lifting in a couple of spots. There is a Seth Thomas label on the bottom of the case, with some losses. There is also stenciled on the back of the case "Navy", as the ST factory often stenciled the names of clocks right on the cases in the 1890s. Rear cover with ST logo; nice clean oak shelf clock. Ht 14.75" $125--$225

018.  C.1892, Seth Thomas Clock Co., 8-day time & strike Adamantine mantle clock, in good, as-found condition. The case is in pretty good shape with a chip on the upper right corner, and minor roughness along the very back edge; color is light tan with dark brown marbeling. The paper dial is worn and shows signs of age. The hands are original. Metal feet, side lions and ST rear cover intact. Movement is complete and sound, but dirty and will need cleaning prior to use. Ht 11.25" $125--$175

019.  C.1910, Waterbury Clock Co., "Speck" 30-hour carriage timepiece. This is the smallest carriage clock that Waterbury produced. The case is in overall good condition with a little loss of the lacquer and resulting oxidation. The porcelain dial is perfect with original hands. The beveled glass on the right side has a couple of chips. Original wind and set knobs are intact; clock ticks and stops. Ht 3" $100--$125

020.  C.1958, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Brookfield", 8-day Time & Strike banjo clock in excellent original condition. The reliable German movement strikes the hours and halves on two melodious steel rods. Note Seth Thomas ceased production of movements in 1956. Ht 30" $100--$150

021.  C.1910, Seth Thomas Clock Co., 8-day Time/Strike black and green Adamantine mantle clock. The case is in excellent overall condition with one tiny chip on the left corner of the base. The dial is very clean with no signs of damage. With a little polishing the case can be restored to like new condition. Ht 11.25" $100--$150

022.  C.1874, E. Ingraham & Co., "Doric No. 2" 30-hour time & strike shelf clock, in very good condition, the case nicely refinished {otherwise original}. The gilding on the trim molding is original with normal wear from age. The original dial has turned a little brown. The two glasses are original. The lower tablet has had the background restored. The label looks to have been varnished and has turned quite dark but can still be read. A decent example. Ht 11.25" $150--$200

023.  C.1915, E. Ingraham & Co., "Solar", 8-day timepiece. The refinished oak case was made for the "Railroad Chronometer Co", Chicago. There is some wear damage to the embossed molding on the lower right side of the case. Two of the molded corner spandrels are not complete. The paper dial which is mounted on a metal pan has turned dark; note image of unique dial mounting. Also the Railroad Chrono Company must have provided dial artwork that resulted in a production fluke, as they have a circle printed at 6 o'clock for the winding arbor, which is actually at 6:30. The movement is properly signed and is running. Ht 21" $200--$300

024.  C.1970, Horolovar Co., New York, "Dickory, Dickory, Dock" clock in good condition. The veneer on the front of the case has developed very fine hairline splits and has created a roughness to the finish. The brass numerals 3, and 0 from the 10 are missing {but gold paint under the numeral makes the absence hard to detect}. The mouse is original, and the clock is in running order Ht 24.5" $250--$300

025.  C.1860, New Haven Clock Co., 30-hour lever movement octagon timepiece with alarm in very good original condition. The veneer, which looks to be walnut, is in very nice condition with only a little roughness on the back of one edge. The dial has some paint loss. There is a very good label on the back, minor losses but bright and legible. Ht 8.5" $100--$150

026.  C.1970, Horolovar Co., New York, Dickory, Dickory, Dock clock in generally good condition, and with original box, that was at some point sent to H.G.Webber, Hampton, NH. The veneer on the front of the case has developed hairline splits and minor lifting along these cracks. The brass numeral 4 is missing [painted figure intact]. The mouse is original. Note this case has a dark mahogany finish; despite cosmetic problems, still a good example; see also lots 24 & 301. Ht 24.5" $200--$300

027.  C.1880, Yale Clock Co., New Haven, Conn, miniature cast iron 1-day timepiece with MOP inlay in the base and in good original condition. The litho paper dial depicts a mountain goat in the forest at sun up; the dial is a bit warped but is not stained and is very eye catching. The movement, designed by F. A. Lane, has a balance wheel mounted on top of plates, the shaft vertical and the wheel horizontal, and with F/S adjustment out the rear. Back wind is with original fixed key and hand set stem is intact. Cute clock. Ht 4". $200--$250

028.  C.1913, New Haven Clock Co., Brass & glass column empire style novelty clock in very good original condition. It is amazing, allowing for the inexpensive construction of the clock, that it has survived nearly a century without damage to the 4 twisted glass columns, nor to the glass plinth which supports the movement. There is a minor ding in the brass bezel of the clock, but only noticeable on close inspection. The silvered dial is still like new and clocks seems to run fine. Ht 8.25" $175--$225

029.  C.1837, Austin Chittenden, Lexington, Mass., 30-hour, 2-wt time & strike wood movement column and splat shelf clock, in very good original condition. This clock is a clean example in unrestored condition. The dial has a little paint flaking in a couple of places, case retains its original stenciling. The veneer on the case is pretty good, with a few chips along the base. Label is xlnt. Much nicer than you typically find for a 165 year old clock. Ht 34" $175--$275

030.  C.1875, E. Ingraham & Co., "Grecian" 8-day time/strike shelf clock in very good condition. The case is veneered in rosewood which has some small chips on the left side base. The bezel and the buttons have been stripped at one time {rest of original finish is intact}. The original dial is s a little brown from age. The hands are original. The original gong and base is gone and clock now strikes on a bell, but this is easy to restore {either new replacements, or see Dave Ewbank}. There is a very clean label in the case. Ht 14.50" $200--$300

031.  C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Altai", walnut parlor clock, 8-day time & strike in excellent original condition. This is an attractive slant side case with profuse gingerbread. The dial has turned a little brown from age. The case retains its original tablet. There is a Gilbert label, with the name of the model, on the back of the case. A great clock for the beginning collector; about as nice as it gets. Ht 20" $200--$300

032.  C.1890, Anglo-American, 8-day time & strike round drop wall clock. This is a very attractive case with the effective use of cross-band inlay. The veneer on the case is excellent, with the exception of a small burn mark on the bottom. The clock has a New Haven movement. The dial has been repainted. The hands are original. Carved trim 'ears' on either side of trunk are missing. Runs & strikes. Ht 29" $200--$300

033.  C.1910, Sessions Clock Co., "Regulator No. 2", 8-day, calendar store regulator in oak and in very good condition. This clock retains original glasses, dial and hands. The case has been nicely refinished. The dial is a little brown in a couple of areas. About half of rear label remains. Ht 38.50" $300--$400

034.  C.1975, German, Horolovar {Clocktrade Enterprises, Bronxville} reproduction of the famous Briggs rotary timepiece. Charlie Terwilliger imported a run of 2000 of these, and they have become quite collectible; this one is number 579. The Briggs was an American adaptation of the European "conical pendulum" clock, commonly called a ‘rotary pendulum'. The desirable feature of this particular model is the 8-day duration. This timepiece is very good original condition with original glass dome. Ht 8" $300--$500

035.  C.1910, New Haven Clock Co., "Willard", 30-Day banjo timepiece. The case has been stripped of its finish and needs to be restored. The two tablets are original but the images are starting to lift from the glass with some areas having been inpainted and have created a mottled appearance. The silvered dial has been polished and someone has inked over numbers. The eagle finial is a replacement [looks OK]. The hands and pendulum are original. The movement is clean and running. Ht 44.50" $300--$500

036.  C.1883, Waterbury Clock Co., "Windham", 8-day time/strike/alarm walnut shelf clock. This a nice case in unrestored condition. The door glass is cracked across the dial, but it is original and we wouldn't change it. The alarm movement has been moved in the case. The original painted dial has a little paint loss at 1 and 3 o'clock. The pendulum bob is extra nice, a milk glass bust of a Victorian woman; pend alone worth $65. Fragments of label on rear. Overall good condition, complete and sound; suspension spring may be incorrect length. Ht 21.75" $150--$250

037.  C.1893, Waterbury Clock Co., "French Marble" mantel clock in very good condition, the American movement just restored and in excellent working order. Like several American clock companies, Waterbury imported an entire line of French marble cases that they presented at the Columbian Exposition [Chicago] in 1893. Interestingly, the list price for these marble models averaged $25 at the time, about twice the price of black enamel over wood models of similar design. This clock features Waterbury's premium rack striking movement with open escapement on the dial. Very minor edge abrasion to the marble. Ht 11" $150--$250

038.  C.1905 Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., thirty-hour figurine novelty in very good original condition. Although the movement is not marked, it is obviously a Gilbert. This gilt spelter case with musicians in 18th century dress was not found in Gilbert catalogs, but the clock is obviously correct. The case has no breaks or loss and the gilt finish, though worn in some areas, has never been over-painted. Ht 12.5" $100--$200

039.  New Haven Clock Co. "San Remo" hanging porcelain thirty-hour timepiece. Case is in perfect condition and floral decorations and gilt work are exceptionally well preserved. Dial has been very skillfully repapered with New Haven trademark applied. Hands are original. The gilt braided rope looks good, but the catalog shows a velvet ribbon and bow which no doubt disintegrated long ago, but could be easily reproduced. See Tran Duy Ly's New Haven Clocks & Watches, 1997, p. 466. These novelty items do not turn up in this nice of shape very often. Ht 6.5" without rope. $200--$300

040.  C.1890, Swiss Coach or Travel watch with calendar. This large 15j., pin-set watch is a very nice example with original leather carrying case. The porcelain dial is perfect; functions include day of the week, day of the month, month of the year and a moonphase complication. The movement is housed in a nickel case with a beveled front glass and double rear covers leading to a glass dust cover. The leather travel case shows some signs of wear; it has a pull out support to allow the watch to sit on a table. The case has the name of "Charles S. Procter, 15 Grey Street, Newcastle", the vendor, printed on the back. The clasp hinge needs some minor repair. Ht 4.75" $600--$800

041.  C.1960, Swiss, Patek Philippe, 18j, 18K, Ref #2430 men's wristwatch in very good condition. Nickel mov't serial #936491, adj to 5 positions /heat/cold/iso. Has mono-metallic balance with Breguet hairspring, also whiplash micrometer regulation, & shadow damaskene. Signed & hallmarked case #421676; note signed dial has been refinished and replacement crown has no logo. Running. Dr. Kimball wore this on special occasions. $1,500--$1,800

042.  C.1890, E. Howard & Co., Boston, 18s, Series VII, 15j, nickel plate, with running deer, serial #217696, in a gold 14K, E. H. & Co., engraved hunter case with initials C/S intertwined. This watch is in average+ condition, the engine turning shows wear; porcelain dial perfect; great blued umbrella hands. Movement is sound and running, except seconds bit seems to hang up on the hour hand sometimes. Glass display back. $800--$1,000

043.  C.1890, Swiss, 45mm, 1/4 Repeater with Chronograph, in a smooth 14K hunting case. This watch is in average condition, some small dents to the rear cover. Ticks fine and repeats the hours and quarters briskly with push button activation. Porcelain dial is perfect and with original hands. Movement is running, but would surely benefit from cleaning. Note this watch is NOT jeweled to the hammers. $600--$800

044.  C.1850, Attleboro Banjo clock in good condition, except as noted. Someone has added the bracket from an early 20th century banjo clock {can & should be removed}. The case is stamped "DLW" for David L. Williams, who was a partner of Geo. D. Hatch from the late 1840's through 1860. They actually produced clocks as "Williams & Hatch". Other than a crack in the throat tablet, and a flaking dial, this is a good mid 19th century banjo, worth of dial restoration. Ht, with bracket, 41" $750--$950

045.  C.1845, Brewster & Ingrahams, 30-hour time/strike/alarm miniature OG shelf clock. This rosewood and mahogany veneered example is in good condition. The original finish needs to be cleaned and rubbed down, and there is some damage to the finish, top right.. The signed dial has paint loss around the mounting screws and in the center area. There is a small piece of wood missing along the top edge of the door, above the glass. Both glasses are original with some flaking of the tablet {View of Rome, Italy}. The dial is signed and the label is very clean. The 30-hour ribbed plated movement is signed. Still way above average for an OG of this age. Ht 17.25" $175--$275

046.  C.1901, Ansonia Clock Co., "Navy", 30-hour novelty timepiece. This cute little timepiece is in generally good and complete condition, although the original gold finish is mostly gone. The porcelain dial and beveled glass are perfect. The hands are original; movement complete, sound and running. The one item you should be careful with is the tip of the gaff, which is bent clear over; we did not attempt to straighten it for fear of a break; should be dealt with professionally {the small side hook is fine}. Also note the flag is intact and that is often missing. Ly's 1998 price guide puts these at $600. Ht 12.25" $250--$350

047.  C.1893. E. Ingraham & Co., "Cabinet No. 2" eight-day oak cabinet clock with alarm. Case is in original condition and nicely refinished. Label on back has a portion missing and varnished over, but very legible. Alarm winds with unusual, original key on left side of case. Nice original hands and very fine original gilt on brass dial. See Tran Duy Ly's Ingraham Clocks & Watches, 1998, p. 154. Ht 14" $175--$275

048.  C.1918 Ansonia Clock Co. Gravity novelty timepiece with one-day balance escapement movement. It is wound by lifting the weighted clock to the top of posts and it descends as the clock runs. The spelter posts are often broken, but these are in perfect condition except that a little painted finish has worn off. The silvered metal dial is in superb condition. The hands are original, though two have lost painted finish. Movement is running, but probably could use cleaning. Ht 10" $175--$275

049.  C.1863, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Octagon Top" 30-hour time/strike/alarm shelf clock with a very nice refinished rosewood veneered case. There is a small chip on the upper right side of the case. Someone has nailed a panel of mahogany on the front of the base, difficult to detect at first. This could be removed and veneered with a piece of rosewood. Both glasses and hands are original, and Masonic tablet is exceptional. The dial has been professionally repainted by the Dial House, with 1863 patent info. Clean & running & good label. Ht 14.50" $300--$350

050.  C.1910, French Art Nouveau Walnut Cartel clock in very good original condition. The carved case depicts long reed leaves up the sides, intertwined tulips at the bottom and languid ruffled blossoms at the top. The turned wooden dial with 12 shield numerals, all with wavy nouveau style numerals and a 13th little plaque with the name of the original retailer: Baumann, Paris. The well made 8-day movement striking on a gong. Height 23" $400--$600

051.  Mixed lot: C.1920, Austrian, 2-Weight Deco style box regulator, with a 50 year earlier movement that is clean and running. The case has a few chips and bubbles in the veneer that may be left alone or improved with care. Best part is the great door insert with brass frame and 9 panes of heavy beveled glass, all in good condition. A simple, good looking clock for the money. Has old weights, and with winder. Ht 36" $250--$350

052.  C.1901, Ansonia Clock Co., "Trianon" 8-day time/strike mantel clock in very good restored condition. The gold finish has been restored with brushed gold paint. Overall an attractive clock that seems to run and strike fine; movement is clean. Ht 14.5" $275--$375

053.  C.1860, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Plymouth Hollow, Conn., 30-hour time/strike/alarm OG clock, in very good condition. Has a nice rosewood and mahogany veneer case; there are a couple of veneer chips on the case corners, but generally good+. The original tablet has a little paint loss in the flowers. The dial has some minor paint loss. The movement is signed; label bright and legible. Weight driven alarm with proper weight. Overall a very nice example, ready to enjoy. Ht 25" $125--$225

054.  C.1928, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Standish", 8-day automatic alarm clock in very good original condition. This is a cute little unrestored mahogany case, the same size as ST mini cottage cases, housing a round alarm clock movement with fixed rear wind. The case has some small dings and scratches incurred from use, but is still quite good with original finish. The dial is perfect with original hands, and glasses. An original label is on the bottom of the case and on the inside of the back door are instructions for operating the alarm. Note this clock will alarm at the same hour each morning if wound once a week, as it only alarms briefly rather than until it is unwound; the alarm duration is adjustable. Runs & alarms. Ht 8.50" $175--$225

055.  C.1929, Waterbury Clock Co., "Daintie No. 2", 8-day schoolhouse timepiece, in very good original condition, except as noted. The bezel hinge has been re-soldered to the base-plate, and the bezel is quite a snug fit over the plate The dial and rear label are like new. The original white paint has gone yellow with age and there are a few chips in the paint. There is a price of $5.00 written on the label, which may have been its original selling price. Steel plate movement has brass bushings and is properly signed Waterbury. Ht 13" $200--$250

056.  C.1934, E. Ingraham & Co., "Bristol" 8-day short drop, schoolhouse timepiece. The refinished oak case is in very nice condition. The original paper dial has been carefully painted over with oil base paint by someone who was pretty careful {both the background and the numerals have been painted}. Proper solution is a repro paper dial, although for a "camp" clock, this will do fine. The pendulum is not original & replacement minute hand is too short. Lots of look for the money. Seems to run. Ht 25.25" $200--$300

057.  C.1849, Forestville Manufacturing Co., 8-day time & strike column & cornice shelf clock. This refinished mahogany clock is in exceptionally nice condition. The case has two original geometric glasses with just a little bit of flaking to each. The signed wood dial has a little paint loss on the bottom edge and some roughness below the 12. 058.  C.1880, E. Ingraham Clock Co., "Ionic" 8-day time & strike wall clock in excellent original condition. This is a nice example, with rosewood veneered sides and original rosewood graining on the doors. Both glasses are original. The dial has turned a little brown from age. The hands are original. There is a very nice clean label in the case. A nice beginner's clock. Ht 21.50" $300--$400

059.  C.1868, Seth Thomas Clock Co., 8-day Time/Strike/Alarm column and cornice shelf clock. This is an extremely nice rosewood veneered case with grained columns. Both tablets are original with some loss to the fruit and background to both of them. As is typical of Seth Thomas dials, there is some flaking of the dial paint. The lifting arm on the movement for the alarm is missing, but the alarm is intact in the case. There is some minor veneer loss the top edge of the cornice, the flat area above the bottom door and some small chips on the base. Overall a good clock. Ht 32.50" $400--$600

060.  C.1910, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Chime Clock No. 1", 8-day Sonora chime on 4 bells mantle clock. The imitation rosewood adamantine case is pretty nice with only some very minor chips on the back edges of the base, a little roughness on the front corners of the base, a chip on the back edge of the top and tiny chip on the right side of the top edge. {these faults are only noticeable on close inspection}. The porcelain dial has a very small chip on the time-side winding hole. The hands are original. Both movements have been recently cleaned and the clock is running and chiming. Ht 13.75" $300--$500

061.  C.1890, German, Small Walnut cartel clock in fair to good original condition. This is a very well made clock, and worth of restoring the oxidized dial. Ht 20" $200--$400

062.  C.1905 (prob.) Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. "gaslight" timepiece which fit on a gas light arm and could be illuminated at night. Ht 7" (including handle). $100--$200

064.  C.1885, E. Ingraham & Co., "Pansy", 8-day time, strike & alarm walnut shelf clock. This is a nice looking clock that has been professionally restored. We were not able to find this example in the catalog, but the signed Ingraham movement fits the case properly, and appears to have always been there. The case has been refinished. The original dial has turned slightly brown from age; retains original hands, and proper Ingraham pendulum. The tablet is period, even though it was removed when the case was refinished. Alarm, bell, fancy gong all intact. There is a dark label on the back of the case. Note also thermometer and spirit level. Ht 24" $200--$300

065.  C.1860, Terhune & Edwards, New York, 30-hour miniature scroll front timepiece in rosewood and in excellent original condition {unrestored}. The central portion of the ad is printed on card stock and with the prices of the 4 sizes of perfume = 25¢ 50¢ 75¢ $1.00, ending with the name of the company, Bérénice Co. of Canada, Ltd.. The case is made of pine, probably produced in a small run of 100 for counter top display, and with a brushed gold finish. Movement complete; ticks and stops. Ht 20" $100--$200

068.  C.1969, Horolovar Co., New York, reproduction, of the famous "Ignatz" flying Pendulum clock. It looks like this clock was never used and is pristine condition; it is complete with original box, instructions and guarantee. These seem to bring around $200 to $300 on Ebay, and this one is extra nice. Ht 10" $200--$250

069.  C.1913, William L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Hercules", 8-day time & strike figural clock, in generally good restored condition. The case has been sprayed gold. Ht 22" $300--$400

071.  C.1835, Unknown, 30-hour time & strike wood movement half column and splat, double deck shelf clock, in very good condition, with restorations. This clock has no label, but the present owner, John Benko, has attributed this clock to George B. Wadhams, Wolcottville, Conn. The columns look similar to a style that appear on Hoadley clocks. Also, the columns and splat have been re-stenciled as well as the case being refinished. The dial is extra nice and the tablet is exceptional {lady in formal dress}. The hands are original. Ht 31.5" $275--$375

072.  C.1855, E, C., Brewster & Son, Bristol, Conn., 8-day time & strike beehive clock in good condition. 074.  C.1850, D. S. Crosby, Courtlandt St., New York, 8-day time/strike beehive clock, with restoration and in generally good condition. The rosewood and mahogany veneered case is refinished; there have been some veneer repairs on the curved molding and on the base. The dial has been repainted and the minute hand replaced {moon hand does not match}. The lower tablet has lost a portion of its background paint. The movement is signed Brewster & Ingrahams. Excellent label; overall an attractive clock ready to enjoy. Ht 19" $250--$350

075.  C.1936, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Monitor variant, 1-day time & strike ship's bell clock. The ST catalogs for 1920--39 do not show a model exactly like this, however, they do show this bezel as an option on the Merrimack, and of course the Monitor with the outside bell. The brass case is very nice with no dents or dings; I would imagine that this was either given by Seth Thomas Co. as a gift to someone or assembled by an employee as his "unique" clock. The parts are all original issue and there is no evidence of anything being changed. The silvered dial has some tarnish spots and minor scratches but is in above average condition. Ht 10.5" $200--$300

076.  C.1936, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Merrimac" 30-hour time/strike ship's bell clock. This has a nice clean case with no dings or dents. The silvered dial has a little tarnish and minor scratches, and with an original decal from John Bliss & Co., Nautical Instruments, New York City. Someone has tried to touch up the numbers 4, 8, 9 and 10 with black paint. The hands are original; runs and strikes. Ht 7" $175--$275

077.  C.1914, Ansonia Clock Co., "Elysian" 8-day time & strike crystal regulator in good as-found condition. The gold finish is worn through to copper from polishing and the exposed copper has turned brown. The beveled glass is perfect, along with the dial and original hands. The pendulum has one of its nuts improperly replaced. Still has potential. Ht 16.50" $350--$550

078.  C.1923, New Haven Clock Co., "Waring", 8-day time/strike banjo clock. This is a very clean example with original finish and rear label intact. The original silvered dial has been repapered. 079.  C.1874, American Clock Co., "Tucker No. 2" 30-hour lever movement iron cased mantle timepiece {with bronze finish}. This example is in excellent original condition. The movement is signed "S. E. Root, Bristol, Conn." Although not uncommon, these are not usually found in this nice of condition. These appeared in the Ansonia catalog and are sometimes mistakenly described as Ansonia models. Ht 8" $200--$300

080.  C.1905, American Clock Co., Chicago, Ill, battery operated electric timepiece. This was a company that was formed in Kansas City out of a merger of the Automatic Electric Clock Co. and the United States Pneumatic Clock Co. The movement is housed in a simple designed mahogany case with original finish. The case has some scratches and dings. The porcelain dial is very good with only a minor hairline near 3. The hands are original. The top of the case is hinged and opens to allow one access to the movement and the batteries that run the timepiece. We had one of these around 5 years ago that sold for $600. Ht 13.75" $400--$600

081.  C.1970 Reproduction of J. C. Brown small acorn clock with French feet. Nice reproduction Zebra stripe mahogany veneer case formed from laminated wood similar to the original cases. Excellent reproduction painted tablet. The clock has a period thirty-hour fusee movement marked C. Jerome, period gong and hands. Paper dial on zinc plate not authentic, but a proper raised chapter zinc dial could be made by The Dial House, Dallas, GA and would really improve this nice reproduction of a very rare and valuable clock. {note nuts that hold fusee assembly are sticking out rear of case} Would be several thousand dollars if original. Ht 19.5". $400--$600

082.  C.1980, Reproduction painted cast spelter clock peddler. Nicely cast peddler in 19th century attire and top hat with nicely painted body and face. Thirty-hour pendulum "wag on wall" clock with decorated tin dial is attached to his chest. Clock retains pendulum, but minute hand is missing which should not be too hard to replace or make {does tick fine}. Note there is another clock {inanimate} on his back as well. Marked "JvE" on underside of base. This is a nice version of the peddler. Ht 16" $150--$250

083.  C.1910, German double bell alarm on wood base, in excellent original condition. Nicely polished brass case with two brass finished bells mounted below. Porcelain dial has a few hairline cracks, but chapter is strong and all hands are original. Brass case is in good condition and old winding and setting hands are present. 084.  C.1893, Waterbury "VINE" oak cased cabinet clock in very good original condition. This clock came out of a home in Gardiner, Maine, and shows evidence of good care. The original dial is like new; rear model label with minor loss, and instruction label with some mildew stains. A great mantel clock for the beginning collector. Signed Waterbury movement could stand cleaning, but is running and striking as is. Original hands and pendulum intact. Ly lists these cabinet models for $450. Ht 16" $150--$250

085.  C.1894, Ansonia "FROLIC" double statue novelty clock in generally good original condition. This model was offered in Silver or Bronze finish, and it appears by the black oxidation that this one was silver [virtually all worn off]. These Ansonia novelties are hard to find in complete condition and this one has no breaks nor cracks in the casting. The 1-day movement is dirty and lacking tiny screws to hold it in case; otherwise complete and with good dial and original hands. Ly's 1998 price guide placed this at $300. Ht 7.25" $150--$250

086.  C.1955, Swiss, LeCoultre Rue de la Paix "Street Clock", mini souvenir clock, in excellent original condition. This example has gilded post, + a clear lamp lens with some age cracks. [They also came with black post and white lamp lens] Has a well made Swiss 7-jewel movement, going for 8 days. Ran for a couple of days and then stopped, so a cleaning is in order. Note rear dust cover is loose as screws are now wrong size {easily replaced}. Nice quality. Ht 11" $175--$275

087.  C.1886, Ansonia Clock Co., "Jug", 30-hour novelty timepiece in very good original condition. This clock was offered as a silver plated model. The bezel has a minor dent at the 10 o'clock position. The movement cover on the back of the case has an elongated dent on the rim. The case itself has a small dent on the back, right. Much of the original silver plate has worn off. The original dial has turned a little brown from age, and the hands are original. Sure to please any novelty collector. Ht 9.75" $125--$225

088.  C.1846, Brewster & Ingrahams, 8-day time & strike beehive clock, with a ribbed plate movement and original brass springs. The refinished case is in nice condition, although with major repairs to the veneer on the molded front edge {nicely done}. There is a little piece missing on the back edge of the case near the peak. The original dial numerals have been strengthened, and there is minor paint loss on the dial. The clock has a nice cut and frosted tablet. The lock to the door is missing. The hands are old but not original to this clock. Label is dark & with minor losses, but is legible. Ht 18.50" $200--$400

089.  C.1875, French, Bronze Figural Clock Father Time, in as-found condition. The bronze itself is exceptional, with fine detail. The marble base has some damage, a full crack across the top piece which supports the statue and other small losses along the base. The well made 8-day bell strike movement seems to run and strike, however the porcelain dial has a large repair around the right winding hole. Note also that hanging the pendulum requires the patience of Job, since you have to snake it up between the bell and the crutch with little clearance; rear cover does not open. In perfect condition, we would have expected this to fetch around $5000. Ht 18" $900--$1,200

090.  C.1890, French, Marble & Ormolu Portico Clock in generally good condition. The nicely veined white & gray marble is in good condition, and all the original ormolu is intact. The bezel is missing its crystal, but those are readily available. The minute hand sets a bit far out on the cannon pinion and is currently held on with a small wire; it is our belief that the collet for the minute hand simply needs shortening. The fancy porcelain dial is xlnt and with signature of the retailer: X RAPHANEL, Paris. It also appears that the original fancy pendulum got lost and someone glued an embossed button to another old pendulum of the proper length. Despite a few shortcomings, a good looking clock with potential; ht 16.5" $400--$600

091.  C.1838, Eli Terry, Jr. & Co., Terrysville, Conn., 8-day time/strike column and cornice shelf clock, in good condition, except as noted. {town is definitely printed with center "s"}. In the past, the case was completely painted white, and has managed to be scrubbed down with wire wool without using chemical strippers {some white still in seams} This large brass round top movement is by Eli Terry, Jr., and is in good condition. The dial is well above average with original hands. The original tablet has been removed from the door for restoration, and then put in with glazer's points {putty line is still obvious}. The top glass is original. The case has veneer damage along the base, at the door hinges, and a small piece missing at upper corner. The case is missing its simple cornice top and probably had some sort of feet. The hands are original. Strike bell now replaced with gong. There is a picture of a very similar clock on page 146 of "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology" by Ken Roberts. It shows the movement and also the type of cornice this clock probably had. Ht 34" $700--$900

092.  C.1829, Silas Hoadley, Plymouth, Conn., 30-hour time/strike/alarm wood movement half column and splat shelf clock. This is one of Hoadley's "Franklin Clocks" as stated on the label. The case is extra nice with the use of figured mahogany on the doors, original stenciling {a little weak} on the columns and splat and the addition of paw feet. There is a veneer chip near the right chimney and veneer repair near bottom hinge. The movement is very clean and recently strung. The top side returns are replaced. The bottom "Time is Money" tablet appears to be a proper restoration, putty renewed once & is falling out. All in all, a way above average example. With 3 weights. Ht 38" $700--$900

093.  C.1828, Ephriam Downs, Bristol, Conn., 30-hour time & strike wood movement pillar and scroll shelf clock. This clock has had significant restoration. The case has been completely refinished, including areas that are not typically varnished {top + back}. The top and bottom are new. The veneer on the base is missing and needs restoration. The door has had some veneer repair. The tablet is original but has been poorly restored {looks OK from a distance}. The upper glass is a replacement. The finials are new. Does retain an exceptional label and dial. Ht 23" $500--$700

094.  C.1880, Ansonia, "Crystal Palace No. 1 Extra", less dome. This is a clean clock, nicely restored, the walnut base and back splat refinished, rosettes replaced, mov't cleaned and the dial re-papered. Retains old finish on statues of Hunter and Fisherwoman. Pendulum is original. We see domes advertised in several places, including Ben Bowen and Sal Cabibbo. Ly priced this at $600 {1998} without dome. Ht 17" $400--$600

095.  C.1895, New Haven Clock Co., 8-day time & calendar short drop school clock in very good original condition {dirty out of a home in New Brunswick}. Although we could not find this specific model in the New Haven catalog, it is a factory clock, with proper movement, original to the case, along with original dial and pendulum. The dial has some staining and dark spots. The pressed oak case retains original crusty finish. Just the way country collectors like to find them. Ht 27.75" $250--$350

096.  C.1900, Marti, French Crystal Regulator, in an unusual 8-sided case with 8 panes of beveled glass.. This clock was marketed by Tiffany and Co. The movement is marked "Tiffany & Co." The dial has been adapted from a 400 day clock and with "rub-on" Tiffany trademark. The narrow beveled glass on the left side is cracked, but can be easily replaced. The other glasses are perfect. The case has been nicely cleaned and polished. The dial is perfect and the hands are original. The well made 8-day French movement has a mercury pendulum. Some potential Ht 11" $525--$625

097.  C.1910, French 8-day miniature Louis XVI tall clock timepiece. This cute little clock was marketed by Shreve, Crump and Low of Boston, which is marked on the dial. The walnut case was refinished some time ago and retains all of the brass trimmings {no longer gilded}. The porcelain dial has some minor chips around the winding hole, but is otherwise fine. The beveled glass in both doors is xlnt {complex bevel on waist pane}. The hands are original. The pendulum would have been a small face or sunburst, now a smooth brass bob. Replacement pendulums are available. Ht 19.5" $750--$1,000

098.  C.1850, J. C. Brown (Forestville Manufacturing Co.) 8-day time & strike full ripple steeple, with restorations. The dial was repainted by the Dial House of Dallas, Georgia in 1983. The hands are replacements. The frosted tablet is new, but the clock comes with a distressed period tablet, now broken and reglued. The ripple molding is excellent with a very small bit of damage at the peak, and the case has been refinished. The brass movement is properly signed. The movement originally had brass springs, that are now steel. The clock has a very clean J. C. Brown label, and is attractive. Ht 19.75" $600--$900

099.  C.1908, Sessions Clock Co., 8-day time/strike/alarm hanging gingerbread clock. We couldn't find this particular clock in the catalog, but it looks like a variation on the "Elite" model. The case has been refinished to a golden oak color. The original dial shows fading and discoloration due to age. The reverse stenciled door glass is original. The minute hand is a replacement. Still a good looking wall model. These hanging models were most often made for and sold by mail order firms. Ht 27" $350--$450

100.  C.1875, Ithaca Clock Co., "No 6 Hanging Library", 8-day time & strike wall calendar clock, with restorations. This clock has been refinished and should be rubbed to tone down its shiny finish. Both dial papers have been replaced; original rollers are quite dark. The access door to the pendulum is a replacement. The left top pediment looks to have been replaced {matches OK}; left tip of bottom trim is damaged. The pendulum is a replacement. A fragment of the label can be found on back of the case. Movement is clean and ticks robustly. Would be $1000 if perfect. Ht 28" $650--$750

101.  C.1881, New Haven Clock, for the American Wringer Co., "American Regulator 8-day T.P. Calendar" in oak {time & calendar}. Although similar to other New Haven models, this clock does not appear in the New Haven catalog. A label on the back of the case states this clock was manufactured expressly for "The American Wringer Company, New York". The oak case has been refinished to a caramel color. The original dial is a little dark from age. All 3 hands are original. There is a nice label {with minor losses} inside the case dated 1881 on how to setup the clock. An interesting example of a promotional model manufactured for another retailer. Height 48" $650--$750

102.  C.1880, Ithaca Clock Co., "No. 10 Farmers", time & strike calendar clock. The walnut case has been refinished. The original dials are very nice with just the normal signs of age. The hands are original. The date rollers have minor losses on the days and the months. Pendulum is a replacement. This is very clean perpetual calendar clock. For reference, see Ly's yellow calendar clock book, page 142, fig 346. This clock sold new in 1880 for $12. Ht 25" $550--$750

103.  C.1880, Ithaca Clock Co., "No 9 Shelf Cottage", 8-day time & strike calendar clock, with restoration. The walnut case has been stripped, and needs additional finish applied. The finials have been replaced and are not of the proper design. There is a little piece of the burl veneer missing on the lower left corner. The original paper dial is a single vertical sheet, with minor discoloration, but very good overall. The hands are original. The calendar wheels have grown dark from age. With a proper set of finials and some final finishing this will be an above average clock. Ht 23" $600--$900

104.  C.1929, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Banjo No. 1", 8-day timepiece, in very good original condition, un-restored. Both tablets are original and outstanding {Perry's Victory}. The painted dial has had a little touchup and part of the Seth Thomas name has been gone over with pen. The hands and eagle are original. The clock has a heavy brass bezel. Despite the dial touchup this a very nice example that will restore nicely. Ht 37.5" $250--$350

105.  C.1850, J. J. Beals & Co's, Boston, Mass., 8-day time/strike/alarm 4-column round gothic or onion top shelf clock, in good original condition {including finish}. The frosted & cut glass is very nice, with floral pattern. The original painted dial has faded from age. The hands are original, but the minute hand has been repaired. The veneer is very good with a couple of chips around the keyhole. The turned rings on one of the finials is chipped. The movement is signed "Brewster & Ingrahams, Bristol, Conn." and has its original brass springs. Few of this model remain in good condition, and most anyone would be pleased to own this clock. Good label {Blackstone & Union Sts} Ht 19.5" $500--$750

106.  C.1930, Waltham Clock Co., 8-day lever movement miniature banjo timepiece, with stem wind knob behind lower door. This walnut case has been nicely refinished; note bottom bracket has been broken and reglued, & needs additional repair. The two glasses are very nice with only a little lifting of the paint on the lower tablet. The dial is very clean; case hardware all original Ht 21" $500--$750

107.  C.1930, Waltham Clock Co., 8-day lever movement miniature banjo timepiece. This timepiece is a good looking example which has some shortcomings. The throat door is a replacement, cut out of a solid piece of wood rather than 4 sections joined together, and the throat glass is Waltham, but from a Mt. Vernon set {this is Perry's Victory}. The bottom bracket has been broken at one time and reglued. The balance of the case retains original finish. This clock uses Waltham's reliable "car clock" stem wind movement, which needs cleaning. Ht 21" $400--$500

108.  C.1930, Elgin National Watch Co., 1-day Elgin 35 Size, 21 jewel, "Father Time" ships chronometer with up/down wind indicator, and inner and outer boxes. This deck watch is housed in a nicely made mahogany case with gimbals, however the viewing glass is missing from the second level, and the case key is missing. The inner box has a brass plate that reads: "U.S.S.B. Ship Watch 1058". The movement ticks and is sound, the dial is in excellent condition with original hands. The box is fitted into a larger mahogany case with a leather fastening strap that has a place for a serial # or ship cartouche. Ht 5.25" $500--$700

109.  C.1860, Bradley & Hubbard, Meriden, Conn., "Topsy" 30-hour blinking eye clock. The case retains its original paint, except an area around the right front leg, which has been broken and arc-welded in place. It is a strong repair that would look better if painted over. The eyes, dial and bezel are original, however the eyes have been painted over and are looking a bit cross-eyed; hour hand needs repair. The movement is signed "Waterbury" and has been cleaned and is running strongly. The bezel has some dings and little flat area on one side. The glass needs to be mounted better in bezel. Hands not original. Ht 16.50" $1,000--$1,500

110.  C.1960, 8-day reproduction Massachusetts shelf timepiece, with the tablet signed, Aaron Willard, Boston. This timepiece is a well made example of solid mahogany. The veneered front panel has developed a stress crack that actually adds to the character. The clock is powered by a Seth Thomas No. 2 weight movement that was adapted to keep time in the case. This timepiece has the look of a period shelf clock and is certainly more affordable than the "real thing". Ht 32.75" $600--$900

111.  C.1900, Tiffany & Co., 8-day time & strike French crystal regulator in good+ condition. This has an attractive brass and beveled glass case with stepped back center and fluted columns. The movement is stamped "Tiffany & Co." and also stamped "France". The beveled glass on the back door has a small chip on one corner. The porcelain dial has a little chip at the strike side winding hole {not bad as you can see in dial image}. The clock retains its original mercury pendulum. This case has quite a bit more style than a normal crystal regulator. Ht 11.25" $400--$600

112.  C.1938, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Kingsbury" 8-day time & strike miniature Pillar and Scroll mantel clock. This is a cute little mahogany case in very good original unrestored condition. 113.  C.1875, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Regulator No. 2", 8-day walnut wall timepiece, with advertising. 172.  C.1875, American Clock Company, New York "Tucker No. 2" cast iron case shelf clock with Samuel Root 30-hour marine escapement movement. Case is complete, has the original bright iron/dark iron finish but needs cleaning {a haze of rust on top}. The hands and the numerals on the cast iron dial have been painted white {easily removed}. See also lot #79. Ht 12" $150--$250

173.  C.1875, Seth Thomas Clock Co. walnut 30-hour timepiece in good original condition. We have never seen this model before and it is not shown in any Seth Thomas trade catalogs. But, we have two of them! We can date the clock to the 1870's because of the trademark on the dial of this clock. It has original spade hands, the dial is in good condition with just minor flaking. It has the small Thomaston label with eagle often seen in timepieces. It has a "T" type 30-hour movement as shown in Tran Duy Ly's Seth Thomas Clocks and Movements, 1996, p. 482. The finish is original. See also clock #174. Minor nicks on rt side of case only noticeable on close inspection. Ht 11" $200--$300

174.  C.1875, Seth Thomas Clock Co. walnut 30-hour timepiece. This example, identical to #173 except the case has been cleaned up a bit more. The dial, though a Seth Thomas with good original paint, does not have the trademark and is off another S. T. cottage timepiece as there are 2 extra screw holes {really looks OK}. Retains same hands, "T" movement and eagle label as previous example. This lot has a plus in that it has a label on the back of "M. J. Murray, Practical Watchmaker & Jerseler, 346 Fourth Avenue, New York. French, England and American Clocks Repaired." This label has the owner, J. B. Hildreth, penned on it and the date Jan. 3rd 1885. Ht 11" $200--$300

175.  C.1865, E. Ingraham & Co. 30-hour "Grecian" model. This early mahogany "Grecian" stands a little taller than later models made in the 1870's. It retains a nice green label noting Elias Ingraham's Sep. 30, 1862 patent. The dial paper has been hand done maybe 50 years ago by a graphic artist who "guessed" at the format -- it really looks OK despite differing from the original; it has aged nicely to a tan color. The hands are original. Minor veneer chip bottom rt edge of base. Ht 13.5" $300--$400

176.  C.1870, Jerome & Co. (New Haven Clock Co.) 8-day rosewood mantel. This simple round top model was not found in catalogs; note the beginnings of the tambour style which 50 years later proved so popular. The case has been refinished and has a couple of veneer repairs on the bezel. The hands are original and although the dial has some chipping, the paint is original. An interesting copper wire "braided rope" molding holds in the glass. There is a Jerome instruction label on the back which is about 75% intact. Ht 12.75" $300--$400

177.  C.1860 Seth Thomas Clock Co., Plymouth Hollow, Conn, "Rose Column" 8-day shelf clock. Original dial, hands and lyre plate movement. The mirror in the upper door and the eagle glass in the lower door are replacements. The mahogany veneered case has some veneer repairs, but is basically in good condition. Overall complete and sound with decent label. Ht 32" $400--$600

178.  C.1839, Jeromes, Gilbert, Grant & Co., Bristol, Conn. round side cornice top shelf clock with early Noble Jerome patent 30-hour OG movement. The brass dial is original, but some of the numerals have been overpainted and could be done better. The hands are old, but not correct. The mahogany veneer has few chips and repairs, but unfortunately is wholly missing on the curved part of the cornice {stained to match}. The pressed brass escutcheon and door lock are intact. The reverse tablet masking the dial is original and in good condition. The lower tablet is old, but about 15 years newer than the clock (these usually had mirrors in the bottom). The interior of the case has its original blue dust paper and a very fine card label. The clock has its correct square weights. Ht 22" $400--$500

179.  C.1858 "E. N. Welch at the old stand late J. C. Brown", Forestville, CT. This is indeed a Welch clock and has a nice label inside. The rippled molding rosewood case, unmistakably Atkins, was probably purchased by Welch from the stock of the Atkins Clock Manufacturing Co. went they went bankrupt in 1857. The case is in good condition with a small veneer loss along the back edge. The movement and hands are Welch and the deep case was originally blocked forward so that Welch's movement would fit properly. The lower door tablet is original. The brass bezel and the painted dial is original with only minor chips. A later stencil has been added below the lower door which could be removed, but is not objectionable. The lower door knob is replaced. The back of the case has a large advertising label which is about 80% intact showing the clock was sold by Shaw's Clock Store, No. 42 Westminster St., Providence, RI. Ht 25" $400--$600

180.  C.1860 "E. N. Welch at the old stand late J. C. Brown", Forestville, CT Drop Octagon No. 2. This is a more typical Welch wall clock than lot #179, but was made about the same time and has the same wording, but a different label printing {label with losses, but legible}. Mahogany case with zebra striped mahogany banding. The original carved "wings" are intact and the decalcomania lower door tablet is original. The dial has been repapered and although the clock has original Welch hands, they are probably 20 years later than the clock. Ht 24.5" $200--$300

181.  C.1900, Junghans, 8-day time/strike RA wall regulator, with restoration. This small clock is in pretty nice condition, however the case has been stripped of its finish. The finials and eagle are period to the case. The movement looks to have been recently cleaned and put in running condition. The dial, hands and pendulum are original. Even the glass in the door is original. It is just a nice clean example that deserves some stain and finish on the case. Ht 26" $250--$350

182.  C.1885, French, 8-day wall timepiece with "skeleton" front plate and dial. This is a very nice clock in a nickel-plated case. The reverse painted glass dial is perfect, with original fancy hands. The beveled glass in the door is perfect. The chain to hang the clock is original. The French movement is a well made version with exposed brocot escapement and a small pendulum that swings in front of the bottom ornament. Interestingly the Americans copied this very case; New Haven called it the "Chatelaine". A well made and attractive clock, with the bonus that you can "see" the workings of the clock. Ht 21" $300--$500

183.  C.1879, William L. Gilbert Clock Co. "Baronet" model black walnut parlor clock. This is an unusual model not often found. It has an original paper dial with some wear and repairs and retains its nickel plated bell. The spade hands are replaced and slightly too large. The back has a simple, but well preserved Gilbert label. The case has been refinished and is complete except for the upper finial which has been replaced with an inappropriate eagle, and 2 drop finials. The case varies slightly from the catalog cut which shows the arched top terminating different with hanging finials which this case never had. However, hanging finials ARE missing from the two side decorations. The catalog cut also shows two turned spindle decorations applied each side of the door, but there is no evidence this case had them. With the help of the Gilbert drawings, you can turn the missing finials. Ht 20.5" $250--$350

184.  C.1870, French, 4-Column Empire style shelf clock, as-found. This is a rosewood and marquetry case, with some restoration. The case has some veneer chips on the corners of the base and some roughness on the top; some holes evidencing old wood worm activity. Someone has painted the feet, base molding and top molding with gold paint. These areas would need to be restored. The gilt capitals and bases are in good condition, with bright gilding. The numbers on the dial has been poorly redone. The minute hand is a replacement {and does not match}. The pendulum bob is dirty, lost its gilding, and will need restoration. 8-day movement signed J.B.Wilbor, Paris, has incorrect bell and one dial foot has pulled out. Potential for the right workman. Ht 19.75" $550--$650

185.  C.1909, Seth Thomas Clock Co., World, 15-day, octagon long drop school timepiece in generally good restored condition. The oak case has been refinished to a golden color and the dial has been repainted. Second hand replaced incorrectly; proper hands are available. The gilt counter framing on the bottom door has been brushed with gold paint. The crystal has been replaced and is a bit small. A good looking clock. This clock uses the large ST double spring time movement #86. Ht 32" $325--$425

186.  C.1845, Hills, Goodrich & Co., Plainville, Farmington, Conn., 30-hour time/strike hollow column shelf clock. This clock will need a fair amount of veneer work, as there are several places on the case that have pieces of veneer missing. Fortunately the hollow columns are still in good condition. The tablets are not original. The painted metal dial is in pretty good condition with some loss around the mounting pins. The unsigned 30-hour movement will need some restoration to fix amateur repairs. Label about 70%, but legible. Still a rare clock that can be brought back by a careful workman. Ht 28" $450--$550

187.  C.1894, Ansonia Clock Co., "Novelty No. 803" 30-hour novelty timepiece. This silver finish timepiece looks very similar to the "Barge", but the Barge has a different design on the base {a shell}. This timepiece is in nice condition, much of the silver finish worn off; note there was a bit of corrosion on the sail above the dial, but not obvious under silver touch-up. The front bezel that supports the glass has lost its nickel finish. The dial has been very carefully re-papered and with proper Ansonia logo; the hands are original. Seems to run. An uncommon clock. Ht 14.5" $225--$325

188.  C.1880, German, 30-hour time/alarm cottage timepiece. These timepieces were made to compete with the American versions. This example even has an American eagle on the label, and looks similar to the octagon top model produced by Seth Thomas. The case has some roughness and veneer chips on the base, other veneer is loose. The door molding surrounding the dial and the tablet has been newly painted. The original dial has some paint loss and wear. Both glasses are original. The bell for the alarm has been replaced. Ht 10" $100--$125

189.  C.1910, Westclox Clock Co., LaSalle, Illinois, 30-hour lever movement iron front table clock. The case has been sprayed with gold paint. The dial is very clean with a nice decorative brass element in the center. The case has a hole at the top to allow it to be hung on the wall; also note dolphin feet. Rear wind movement is complete and sound; runs a while and stops. Lots of look for the money. Ht 8.25" $75--$125

190.  C.1970, Horolovar Co., New York, Ignatz flying pendulum timepiece in generally fair to good condition. These cases were all stained dark mahogany, and this one was very carefully repainted in black, and with some losses. One of the round brass ornaments that sits behind the side handles is missing. The rest of the timepiece is all there, and it seems to run fine. Ht 10.25" $125--$150

191.  C.1913, William L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Observatory", 8-day wall timepiece. This oak example has been stripped, and has a dark stain. Both glasses are original but the upper glass has lost its black background in the corners. The original dial has a little wear on some of the numbers. The calendar hand has been repaired, but the other two hands are original. The pendulum and bob are replacements {and not keeping time, you will need to get a new leader and suspension spring} There is a fair label on the back of the case {about 90%, but dirty and with tears}. Ht 36" $250--$350

192.  C.1910 Unknown, German-made hanging porcelain thirty-hour timepiece novelty. Porcelain has two small chips on flourishes, but the flower decoration and gilt are very nice. Clock hangs from a metal chain, likely replacing a deteriorated fabric ribbon. The porcelain dial and beveled glass are perfect and the clock has its original winding and setting knobs. Ht. 7" (not including chain). $100--$150

193.  C.1910, French miniature Renaissance-style timepiece. This cast brass cases has amazing detail on all four sides including the round back door. Eight-day round plate movement with platform escapement (platform replaced). Hands appear original and there is no evidence of a bezel or crystal over the dial. The wax has worn out of the numerals A very cute clock. Ht 7.75" $200--$300

194.  C.1910, Swiss, 8-Day "Oscillator", now on a large female statue of Nautica, standing on a cotton bale, and with an anchor in her left hand and a horn of plenty below her feet. This statue may have had a larger swinging arm at one time, but it certainly works for this one. The Swiss arm in excellent order, with most of original gilding intact and with xlnt porcelain dial. Unlike other swinging arms, this one is designed to beat seconds and it truly is mystifying to watch. Length of arm = 8.5"; overall height = 19" $800--$1000

195.  C.1912, Waterbury Clock Co., "Calendar No. 43", 8-day time & strike calendar clock, with perpetual lower mechanism. This is a very nice walnut example with some restoration. Two small trim pieces on the upper left side have been replaced. The two dials have been re-papered at some time, with appropriate brand information. Note that Waterbury offered this same case as a walnut parlor clock called the Niagara, which sold for half the cost of the double dial. This is a clean example of an uncommon model. Ht 28.25" $1,150--$1,450

196.  C.1865, Fairbanks & Co., Saint Johns, New Brunswick, Canada, 30-hour time & strike shelf clock. This clock is in as found condition, in need of some restoration. The case was made in Canada, and the movement, dial & tablet imported from Connecticut. The original tablet has a single crack, right to left, and paint loss in the sky. At some time the clock was brushed with black paint. Most of the original mahogany veneer looks to still be present under the paint, however there is some veneer apparently missing on the base and on the cornice. The clock has a 30-hour 2-wt unsigned brass movement with tombstone cut-outs. The wooden dial has paint loss and dirt and will need restoration. Minute hand is improperly replace. Fading label touts "Clocks, Looking Glasses and Picture Frames, Manufactured & Sold by Fairbanks & Co." [they were in business from the 1830s]. Ht 28" $225--$325

197.  C.1909, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Globe", 8-day time & strike octagon drop school clock, in generally good condition, the case refinished. The rosewood veneered case has some veneer loss on the back edge of the bottom, the front moldings on the bottom and on the upper portion of the left side behind the dial. There is some minor paint flaking on the dial and some areas on the outer edge that have been touched up {looks pretty good}. The hands are original. The gilt molding on the bottom door has been gold painted. There is a partial label inside the case. Runs and strikes robustly. Ht 31" $325--$425

198.  C.1875, F. Kroeber, New York, "Cabinet No. 4", 8-day time/strike mantel clock.. The ebonized case has its original finish with some small wear spots; originally the carved incising would have had gold leaf that is now worn away. The original paper dial has turned very dark, while the center portion is a replacement. About 90% of the label remains on the back of the clock. The movement is signed. A good value for the Kroeber collector. Ht 12" $225--$235

199.  C.1970, Swiss, LeCoultre, 8-day miniature timepiece. This little brass and red leather case looks is in the form of a set of bellows. The case is very clean with just a little loss to the lacquer coating. The movement is loose in the case, and will need attention {one screw is holding}, however the movement is sound and in robust running condition; note hands are also mis-aligned. Ht 6.75" $275--$325

200.  C.1949, Chelsea Clock Co., The Chinese Lacquer, 8-day desk timepiece, serial 524226. This black lacquered model is in generally good condition, with wear commensurate with age. There is some damage and loss of paint to the decorative elements on the edges of the case and on the figures in the center of the dial. The minute hand has been repaired, and the movement is loose in the case The movement is complete, but needs to be cleaned as it runs for a short time and stops. Will clean up; we have got as much as $650 for these in the past, but this one is not worth over $300; see also lot 570 for a better one. Ht 6.75" $550--$650

201.  C.1890, Ansonia Clock Co., 30-hour porcelain alarm clock, pattern XIII. The case is in generally good condition; there is a small chip, been glued back on above the numeral 11, and there is some wear to the gold striping from handling; has been some touch up to the gold on the sides of the case. The paper dial is very clean and the hands are original. The beveled glass in the bezel is perfect. Ht 9.75" $250--$300

202.  C.1929, {dated} New Haven Clock Co., Winetka, 8-day time/strike banjo clock, special presentation, in very good condition. The case has its original finish with the normal signs of wear, minor edge abrasion, etc. The silvered dial is bright, with only minor discoloration around the winding holes. The hands are replacements, but are the correct length.. The clock was given as gift in 1929 as indicated by the interesting bottom tablet, carefully done in reverse gold leaf: "Presented to Montedonico Proudfit & Co., by the liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company.....Oct 1929". A complete label is on the back. This is the smallest striking pendulum banjo manufactured by New Haven; strikes the hours on a straight steel rod. Ht 18.50" $125--$225

203.  C.1889, New Haven Clock Co., Chatelaine, 15-day lever movement wall timepiece, less chain. This is a very clean clock with all the porcelain numbers intact. The left side of the case has a few small dents. The hands are original. These clocks were probably being made to compete with the French versions that were being imported about the same time {see lot 182}. Suitable brass chain may be purchased at brass suppliers or some hardware stores. This is in much nicer condition than we normally find this model. Ht as shown 14" $150--$250

204.  C.1880, English, rare fusee balloon clock, miniature with ormolu dial. The light mahogany veneer case has dings and scratches and a piece of veneer is missing the back side of the top {does not show from front}; contrasting line inlay is all there. The original gilt brass dial has fine detail and is in nice condition. The hands are original, minute hand with a slight bend. The crutch for the pendulum is broken and there is no pendulum. The balance of the movement is intact, including the tiny chain, and it ticks robustly to full unwind. This is an uncommon clock that deserves, and will respond to restoration. Ht 12.25" $500--$1,000

205.  C.1904, Ansonia Clock Co., Rosalind, 8-day time/strike enameled iron mantel clock. This clock has been carefully restored. The enameled case has been cleaned and polished, and the gold accents re-newed. The side figures and other metal ornaments were originally gilt or bronze finish and are now just base metal. The paper dial is a replacement. The movement is properly signed; seems to run OK, but would benefit from cleaning. A desirable model. Ht 12.25" $200--$250

206.  C.1910, Mixed Lot, "Diana", 8-day bronzed spelter swinging timepiece. The figure statue is period while the Asian movement is about 10 years old. The statue is in good original condition. The original turned wooden base has a little loss of black paint, but this is very easy to restore . The porcelain dial of the movement/arm has a small chip at about 6 o'clock. If all original, this would be worth around $1000. Ht 13.75" $300--$500

207.  C.1910, Mixed Lot, "Elephant", 8-day bronzed spelter swinging timepiece. The elephant statue is period, while the Asian movement is about 10 years old. The statue is in good original condition, however, the jewel bar has broken off the elephants trunk and will need to be drilled out to accept another thread. The original wooden base has lost most of its paint. If all original, this would be worth around $1200. Ht 11" $300--$500

208.  C.1920, German, 30-hour time & musical alarm wall clock. The softwood and mahogany veneered case is in generally good condition. The lever movement has a broken spring on the time side. The silvered dial is pretty clean. The music box looks like a Thorens, but is unmarked. The comb on the music box has 4 broken teeth. The music box and movement are original to the case, however, both the movement and music box have been moved slightly in the case, as evidenced by vacant holes and old glue. With a single perimeter drive music disc {meshes with gear in clock movement}. Although the clock does not run, you can get the musical alarm to play. Ht 19" $200--$300

209.  C.1901, William L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Admiral", 8-day time calendar wall clock in generally good condition, with some exceptions. The case was stripped some time ago and is dirty. The original dial has turned a little dark and spotty from age; tablet original. The calendar hand has been repainted. The hands look old but are too long for this dial. Someone has made a new pendulum rod and in order for the original pressed bob to stay on the rod they flattened it out and ruined it. There is a very clean complete label on the back. Would be worth $450 in nice condition, so our estimate leaves room for improvement. Ht 26.75" $200--$300

210.  C.1875, F. Kroeber Clock Co., "Floretta", 8-day time & strike walnut shelf clock, with restorations. The case has been stripped. Someone was very clever and restored the decorative elements on the top of the case with pressed oak versions of a similar design that were stained to match. The original elements were carved walnut. Hands are replaced. The case has a signed beat scale. The cut and mirrored glass pendulum is rather nice and is worth about $150. There is some loss to the mirror in the pendulum. The door glass is original, and with the remains of an etched border pattern. Would have been $450 if correct Ht 19.5" $200--$300

211.  C.1969, Swiss, LeCoultre ATMOS, perpetual, never wind mantel timepiece, serial #259040. This clock was probably used for a short while as there is a little wear to the one corner of the top and a slight amount on the front of the base. There is a brass plaque with this clock {loose, never installed} noting that it was a gift to "Helen Klehm in recognition of more than a quarter century of service to New Departure-Hyatt and General Motors". {all GM vehicles roll on new departure bearings; the plant used to be in Bristol, Conn}. Miss Klehm's hire date of 1-18-44 is noted on the carry box. And as an aside, isn't it a shame that single employer careers are almost a thing of the past.? These clocks are still sold today in fine stores for around $2000. Includes original literature and guarantee. Ht 9.25" $300--$400

212.  C.1909, Seth Thomas Clock Co., New Sucile variation, 8-day time & strike Patent Adamantine mantle clock. This example is in extremely nice condition. The original dial is very clean and the hands are original. The movement is signed. If you want a nice Seth Thomas black mantel, this is the way you like to find one. Ht 12" $150--$250

213.  C.1915, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Chime Clock No. 5, 4-bell Sonora chime mantel clock. The adamantine finish has been cleaned and polished. There is some damage to celluloid veneer at the corners and along the back edges of the case. The silvered dial is in pretty good condition with some minor tarnish. The hands are original. The rear dust cover is an old replacement, properly made. The movement strikes and chimes Westminster tune, but would benefit from service. Great tone. Ht 14" $350--$550

214.  C.1910, French, 8-day time & strike bracket clock in the Neuchatel style. The mahogany case retains its original finish with painted flowers and ornamental scenes. There is a ding on the upper molding, couple of splits in veneer, and minor scrapes, but overall it is still very good. The dial numbers have faded a little and there is a chip at the three o'clock position, which is not visible when the door is closed. The original lower tablet in the door is cracked in three places, but the glass is held in the door frame, and none is missing. The hands are original. The well made round French movement strikes a gong and is signed simply "Made in France". An attractive clock. Ht 22" $250--$350

215.  C.1909, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "No. 31 Empire", 8-day time/strike crystal regulator. This clock is un-restored condition and will need cleaning to restore the original bright finish to the case and other techniques to restore the bronze finish to the figure, which is rubbed to base metal. The outer left foot has been repaired. This example has the crystal columns with applied gold designs; this model also came with cut glass columns. The dial is perfect and the hands are original. The beveled glass on the back door has a chip. The other beveled glasses are xlnt. The bonnet figure is a little loose in her attachment to the main case, and needs attention {will need disassembly to correct}. Ht 25" $750--$1,000

216.  C.1914, Waterbury Clock Co., 8-day lever movement wall timepiece, in an octagonal oak case with original finish. The original paper dial is slightly discolored with some minor scratches caused by the original hands. No label. This is a very clean example that is sure to please most collectors. Ht 9" $125--$225

217.  C.1885, Welch, Spring & Co., "Damrosch", 8-day double dial calendar {Gale calendar mov't}. This walnut case has some problems; the top and bottom trim are home-made replacements. Actually the top is not too bad a job. The bottom was made by a different person as is it not as good, the carving quite irregular. Door glass replaced with a piece too thick and minute shaft is binding on the glass. The two dials are original but have stains from age. The hands are original. Does have a full inside label {quite dark}. Running robustly, but calendar a bit sluggish. This is a hard to find clock and in original condition is worth $2500. Our estimate leaves plenty of room to afford proper restoration. Ht 41" $750--$1,000

218.  C.1932, Chelsea Clock Co., "Sampson" model , Electric (110v.) yacht wheel ship's bell clock. This is a very heavy brass clock with a bronze finish {brass finish on wheel only}. The silvered dial is excellent with original hands. The clock is sitting on a mahogany base with backboard. The serial number is 199629. Chelesa made electric movement clocks for about 2 years. The time train is electric, and the strike train is operated by a spring wound by the electric motor. Ht 14" $1,100--$1,400

219.  C.1909, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Empire No. 23", 8-day time/strike crystal regulator. This clock is in pretty nice condition. The case has been well polished, but not lacquered, so has some discoloration. The porcelain dial is perfect. One side glass has a chip missing, but can be easily replaced. The rest of the beveled glasses are fine. The hands are original. The clock is signed "A Stowell & Co." on the dial; ST would "brand" these dials for main street department stores. Ht 11.50" $350--$450

220.  C.1850, Geo. B. Hatch, Attleboro, "Regulator No. 5", with restorations {some inappropriate}. Someone who owned this wanted so bad for it to be a Howard and Davis, that he had a friend stamp Howard & Davis on the movement and had the dial repainted accordingly [looks to have been 25+/- years ago, as the dial is starting to flake]. Neither this case nor the movement ever saw the inside of the Howard shop, and it is definitely a Hatch. The case has been stripped and the tablet freshly painted. Hard to estimate a non-original clock such as this. Looks nice despite the problems, and seems to run OK. Ht 32" $700--$900

221.  C.1910, Unknown, 8-day time/strike bracket clock. This is a large & well made custom case of mahogany and cherry, probably made by a small cabinet shop to match someone's parlor furniture. The dial is a period 30-hour brass tall clock dial that was fitted to the case and drilled for a good 19th Century German movement striking on a single bell. The dial is signed "Abram Thornton". The date aperture on the dial is covered up, as there is no calendar wheel on this mov't. The Chippendale style case is in nice condition with some minor dings and scratches; lower door has warped a little and does not close fully [fixable]. A very decorative piece of furniture. Ht 28" $750--$850

222.  C.1970, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Plainville", 8-day time & strike steeple clock. This is a dark stained pine case in very clean condition. The movement is a German bim-bam strike model. When this clock was made, Seth Thomas was a part of General Time a Talley Industries Company, and was coming to the end of their production. If you need a nice modern clock to give as a gift this would be an excellent choice. These were around $175 when new. Ht 22.25" $60--$90

223.  C.1992, Sligh Furniture Co., Holland, MI, 8-day Westminster chime, column and cornice shelf clock, new old stock. This cherry clock was part of their "Country Inns and Back Roads" collection, model 553. The case and dial are as-new. The clock has a German 3-tr pendulum movement. Although this might not appeal to a clock collector, if you wanted to give this to a friend or relative, this would be a nice choice. With original literature and tags. These retailed for around $495. Ht 32" $100--$200

224.  C.1973, Trend Clock Co. by Sligh Furniture Co., 8-day time/strike Westminster chime mantel clock. A nice pine & cherry case with applied grain, clock with a modern German floating balance movement. The dial is very clean. Plays Westminster tune on the quarter hour. This is a one-owner clock from Watertown, Ct. Does run and chime, but will eventually benefit from service. The case is really like new. Ht 18.25" $100--$150

225.  C.1910, Unknown, 30-hour time & alarm miniature black mantel timepiece. This is a cute little clock with original black painted finish. The case has nice quality cast capitals and bases and a cast bezel. The dial is porcelain with original hands. The case has a metal door on the back similar to those used on the larger versions. Ht 6.50" $40--$80

226.  C.1910, American Waltham Watch Co., 30-hour gaslight timepiece. This is very nice example with an original milk glass dial with blue numbers in a heavy brass bezel. These little clocks could stand up on a table or bureau during the day and placed on a gas jet to be illuminated from behind in the evening. This comes with an old gas jet that has been mounted onto a piece of iron to allow one to hang it on the wall. Ht 5.50" $300--$400

227.  C.1903, Waterbury Clock Co., "Decoy", 30-hour time & alarm carriage clock. The cast white metal case retains most of its gilt finish in good condition {usually these are quite worn}. The beveled glass is perfect. The paper dial is a replacement, and the chapter ring a bit small for the hands. The rear wind nickel plated movement is in running condition; alarm is set and wound from the rear. This clock cost about $7 in 1903, a fraction of French items it was meant to compete with. Ht 7.50" $125--$225

228.  C.1942, Chelsea Clock Co., 8-day ships or engine room timepiece, case #313107, with later movement #483197 {C.1947}. This heavy brass cased model is generally good condition with some dents along the edge of the bezel. The silvered dial is in good condition with original hands. This looks very much like the model P-640, only this example has a screw bezel. Movement has a later Chelsea platform and is running fine. This likely saw naval or maritime service, and these occasionally have the movements rotated out and into another case after repair. Ht 7.625" $300--$350

229.  C.1870, Jerome & Co., (New Haven Clock Co.), 30-hour time & alarm miniature steeple timepiece. This little clock will need to have the rosewood veneer on the base replaced [losses have been stained dark]. The upper portion of the front round moldings of the steeple also has a chip. The cathedral style tablet is very nice. The original painted dial has some loss around the mounting screws and near the 7 o'clock position. The hands are original. Retains a good label inside, with a moisture stain at the bottom. Movement complete and sound. Ht 15.50" $150--$200

230.  C.1855, E. N. Welch, Forestville, Conn., 8-day time & strike OOG shelf clock, in generally good condition except as noted. This clock was produced not to long after Welch bought out J. C. Brown. The label {with losses} states that it was made at the old establishment of J. C. Brown. The movement is signed "J. C. Brown" {OK for early production like this}. The original dial has a little paint flaking near 5. The top glass, frosted tablet, hands and weights are original. The mahogany veneer is in need of repair at several points along the outer band, otherwise the veneer is good. Ht 29.25" $200--$250

231.  C.1840, Hotchkiss & Fields, Burlington, Conn., 30-hour time & strike wood movement bevel case shelf clock in good original condition. There are veneer repairs on the right side of the case that need to be improved, but overall, the mahogany is quite good. Both glasses are
