Catalog

001. C.1900, Wm. L. Gilbert, "Porcelain No. 417" less outer bezel [and crystal]. There are no chips nor breaks in the case, however the color is worn off top center from cleaning. Dark pink color with violet and yellow flowers; fancy brass dial mask intact; paper dial dark from oil. Seems to run; strike out of synch. Has lots of potential. Ht = 10.75" $150-200

002. C.1880, Waterbury Clock Co, 30-Hour steeple with a Gilbert 8-day dial, and with incorrect hands and no pendulum. The veneer with some chips and home-made finials. Good Wby paper; movement is original to case. Height 19.5" $75-100

003. C.1910, E. Ingraham & Co., "8-Inch Ingot", in oak, as- found with no top glass. Lower tablet now clear, and with smooth [but old] pendulum. 8-day time only movement is sound and complete with good spring. Dial has some minor stains. Ht 19" $125-175

004. C.1920, Wm. L. Gilbert "Curfew", as-found, less back, crystal and pendulum. The case is basically sound and the movement is complete, springs good, although dirty. Cello dial dirty and will need recovering. See lot 68 also. Height 18" $100-150

005. C.1900, E. N. Welch, Black Enamel over wood shelf clock in very good original condition, dirty. The case is dull and crazed and the movement looks as if it has never been serviced. Original dial is still in good condition; all hardware intact; ht 11" $60-90

006. C.1891, Waterbury Clock Co., "Racer" model wall clock in clean, restored condition, running, striking and alarming. The owner paid $65 for this clock in 1990, and another $75 for cleaning. The case has been stripped and stained, but not finished. Tablet, dial [with flaking] and hands are original; no door latch, but stays closed OK; height 14" $90-120

007. C.1855, Bristol Brass & Clock Co., #3 Cortlandt St, NY, an 8-day iron front in excellent original condition, clean and running. The iron casting is complete with no chips nor breaks. Most of the gilding is worn off at this point. Original paper dial in brass bezel & with original hands. Xlnt label. Height 17" $150-200

008. C.1947, Lux "Fairview", Model 232, Red, One Day Alarm clock, new-old stock, with original box. The box has some water stains, but is double labeled with the "Fairview’ sticker and is not torn. Interior cardboard spacer is crushed, but repairable, and with original guarantee booklet. Absolutely no chips nor repairs to paint; no evidence of use. Perfect beginning collector’s clock. Height 5" $50-75

009. Mixed lot: C.1850, a cute German wall case with an Austrian 2- day spring movement adapted to the case. If you set the movement back where it can impulse the pendulum and reach the gong, it is an inch from the front glass. Seems to tick and strike OK, but the winding stops are missing from the back plate. The case top trim is maybe 40 years old, made to fit and looks OK, but not of proper style. So there you have it: an extra good looking clock with improper restorations. Ht 30" $175-275

010. C.1913 [dated], Wm. L. Gilbert, Mahogany shelf clock, in restored condition. We looked in Ly’s new Gilbert book, but this model is not included. It is a large and imposing clock with 4 Corinthian columns. The case has been stripped and sprayed with lacquer. Original cello dial has some yellowing. Note the hinges and latch for the back door are new and the latch does not close properly [a dollar latch will cure this] Strikes on a deep toned gong. Clean & running. Height 16.5" $175-275

011. C.1890, Thomas Fattorini, Skipton, Yorkshire, England. This was the UK’s answer to American "long alarms". The large open spring, 8-day movement has one train for time and the second for alarm, rather than strike. This one retains rear label [about 85%], identifying it as the "Bugler" Alarm Clock. At some time the clock took a tumble backwards and the movement has pulled loose from the front of the case and one mounting foot broken off. A notched piece of wood will suffice. The case itself has minor scrapes and chips but is otherwise complete with original top and finials, plus original finish. Crystal is cracked This is overall a very good example of Fattorini’s patent and his clocks. Height 17" $175-275

012. C.1949, Lux Clock Co., "Louis XVI Fob Clock" in good condition. Has some minor shortcomings: the velour that holds the 2 pieces together has been replaced with a piece of old curtain material, and the movement was cleaned and the minute hand replaced incorrectly. Retains old paint and original label in good condition. Some minor attention would improve this clock. Ht 10.5" $50-70

013. C.1885, Seth Thomas, 12-Inch Drop Octagon in oak in very good condition. There are some minor gouges along the edge of the case {barely visible}, and the dial pan has come loose from the bezel at 1 o’clock. Otherwise this is a great original school clock with super label and original dial, hands, pend, etc. Original deep golden oak color. Height 24" $275-375

014. C.1910, Seth Thomas "Long Alarm", the top a pressed brass canister and the base of spelter with antique finish. This clock is in very good condition, with original dial. There are no stress cracks in the brass can as is so often the case; bezel is polished to bright brass. 15 minute alarm will wake the soundest sleeper. Ht 9" $40-60

015. C.1910, Ansonia, Brass over Iron from their "Colonial Brass Finish" series {there are 9 of these}. This one is No. 1241 with tiny ivy leaves in the corners. The brass dial with Nouveau style numerals, has been touched up. The clock is otherwise original and in very good condition with nice brass sheen, and in good running order. Height 11" $175-225

016. C.1860, Waterbury Clock Co., 30-hour Iron front in as-found condition. This is a fairly decent, original clock with original dial, hands, pend and very good label. The iron case itself has gotten wet and about 1/3 of the paint has flaked away with rust under it. Note the similarity between lot "7" and the next lot as well; it is unusual to have 3 such similar clocks. Height 16" $90-120

017. C.1855, unidentified Connecticut, 30-hour iron front in good, original condition, with virtually all of the original paint & MOP intact [a little dirty]. Paper dial with some dirt and wear, but overall in good+ condition; height 16" $125-175

018. C.1855, Mixed lot: A mini column & cornice case by E. O. Goodwin, Bristol, with a later 8-day Connecticut spring movement. The case has some corner chips and repairs, and the tablets have a few flakes, but overall, it is a good mahogany case wanting an earlier movement. Hands do not match. Does run and strike as-is; height 20.5" $175-225

019. C.1852, Bristol Brass & Clock Co, 3 Cortlandt St, New York, a large and impressive 8-day iron front. This clock is missing the center alarm wheel and a typical 3-point alarm mechanism that you can probably find. Otherwise, this is an exceptional case with original paint and MOP intact with only minor edge abrasion; original dial, hands, pend, bell, etc. Lower crystal is replaced with a large brass button with an embossed eagle {can be left or removed easily}. This is a heavy clock; width = 17", ht = 21" $175-275

020. C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert, "Parole", Walnut Mantel clock in generally good condition. Retains original dial, hands, barrel pendulum and great tablet. What is missing is the turned button for the top, center [side buttons are there]; no label. Runs & strikes; paper dial with wear at 1 and 5; ht 20" $150-200

021. C.1920, Connecticut, 8-day, Oak Long drop with round bezel. This is a well made solid oak case with original unsigned movement, probably Gilbert or New Haven. The lower tablet is cracked and the dial was papered over long ago and is discolored and failing again. Original case finish is crazed and with orange peel and will need stripping; height 32" $250-350

022. C.1881, Waterbury "Cottage Extra", rosewood in good original condition. This is a good beginners clock; although there is flaking on the dial and tablet, and the label is dark from oil, it is all original with finish, hands, 8-day mov’t, alarm , etc., intact; height 12 ¾" $100-150

023. C.1895, Boston Clock Co., "Tandem Wind" black marble cased mantel clock, serial #9388. This clock has some corner chips and the ivory colored porcelain dial has some hairlines. It has cobwebs inside the case. This clock came to us with the springs wound down all the way, but it is dirty and I cannot get it to tick, so you are on your own. It does not show signs of abuse; ht 10" $125-175

024. C.1910, German, Black Forest Cuckoo, with unusual Edelweiss and goat motif. The carving on this clock is especially nice. Someone recovered the bellows and glued them back on the flutes incorrectly so they bind in the center, also rear dust cover is a new piece of plywood; and hour hand is missing. Still it has a good heavy cast movement and will restore nicely. Height from goats horns to pend tip = 21" $125-175

025. C.1895, French, Marble Mantel Clock, black and red, with 8-day bell strike movement and good porcelain dial. Note there are corner and edge chips to the marble which need attention, and water spots on the top panel. However this is otherwise a good clock, complete and sound. Height 10" $100-150

026. C.1840, Jeromes, Gilbert, Grant & Co., Bristol, Conn, 30 hour brass works OG, restored. The mahogany case has a large veneer replacement on the left side, and other veneer chips along the band. The lower tablet has been repainted in place in proper style with a bit of primitive look. The label is stained but fully legible and very good; top tablet intact; original round painted dial and hands; will run, but we cut the left cable to remove the weight; ht 26" $125-175

027. C.1950, German, Rocking Bird in Cage, with chrome stand on a marble base. Note the annular dial rotates and the fixed arrow or ‘hand’ points to the time. Small plastic bird rocks back and forth with each tick. Clock = 5", stand = 11" $75-100

028. C.1955, Swiss, Gubelin, 3-Sided Desk Frame with, with 8-day clock, thermometer and barometer. Note this item is as-found. The alarm spring has failed and the movement is loose in its’ mounting. Time train is operating, but needs cleaning. The fretwork frame revolves within outer structure, and the one frame with the clock is hinged at left, for winding and maintenance. Worth restoring. Height 8" $250-350

029. C.1901, Ansonia Clock Co., Eight Inch Octagon Drop, R.C.. The case on this clock is dark and dirty; you’d think it was rosewood, but is actually oak. The joints have been reglued a couple of times and the work is obvious. The tongue and latch for the bezel are missing. Original dial, mov’t, label and pendulum intact. Height 19.5" $200-300

030. C.1910, Wm. L. Gilbert, "Admiral", pressed oak short drop, as-found, will run. The original dial shows a little discoloration, but OK. The case has been scrubbed with alcohol, and most of the finish removed {is an attractive golden oak color}. The pendulum is from a Seth Thomas model. The "standard time" tablet is original; no label. Some modest restoration would render this a $400 clock; ht 27" $200-300

031. C.1890, E. N. Welch, Black marble and red onyx mantel clock. This is the heaviest Welch clock you will ever have the opportunity to buy. NO SHIPPING ON THIS ITEM. The case has a lot of style with sharp gothic spires, and with red columns and inlaid red onyx trim everywhere. The only drawback on this clock is that the porcelain dial center got chipped at the right winding hole, and really needs professional repair; chapter ring is fine. Open ‘scape mov’t is sound and complete. Height 14½" $175-275

032. C.1915, Sessions "Regulator E", pressed oak store regulator with original grungy finish intact; has popular ‘star’ pattern in door. The bottom tablet is weak, but original, and the pendulum has a dent from being dropped. This clock is otherwise in very good condition and merits your attention; 8-day time only, orig brass hands. Good beginner’s clock. Height 38.5" $250-350

033. C.1881, Waterbury "Courier – Spring" in rose-wood and in very good condition. The clock has been stripped and the gilt gesso trim molding rubbed to chalk, OR it would be excellent. Some one wrote in pencil on the dial an 1871 date {can be erased}, but the Courier model does not appear until the 1881 catalog [an effort to spice up the OG style]. The veneer grain is quite lively and this clock would finish up nicely. 30-hour, T/S/Alarm; height 17 ½" $125-175

033-a C.1925, New Haven Clock Co., "MANOR" in very good original condition. These came in several pastel colors, this one in pastel green. New, this clock sold for $11.90. This clock retains original dial, hands, and good rear label; minor wear and tear on paint along the edges; a great example of this model; ht 11 ½" $150-200

034. C.1920, English Alarm Clock in a mahogany round gothic case with satinwood and floral inlay, the base molding setting on 4 brass bun feet. This clock is in excellent condition with original paper dial, hands and brass bezel, and makes a perfect beginners level clock; alarms perfectly, time side runs a few minutes and stops; height 9" $75-100

035. C.1910, German, Hamburg American Clock Co., round dial clock, 8-day, time and strike. The 11" dial has been repainted by an artist, rather than a dial person, and is not as exact as it should be. The oak case has been refinished and has a red mahogany stain on it that some might object to. The bezel was replaced maybe 25 years ago and is oxidized. Typical German movement with going barrels, runs. Diameter = 16.5" $125-175

036. C.1930, French, Art Deco Mantel clock. The tan onyx case is offset by a cross hatch pattern of black marble. Has a good 8-day bell strike movement, but note the dial is damaged at the right winding hole and needs repair. Otherwise complete and sound; the flash blurred the numeral 9, but it is OK. Height 11.7" $100-150

037. C.1910, Westclox, LaSalle, IL, an interesting "Ironclad" cast iron alarm clock in excellent original condition. The ribbed case has four ribbon style spandrels cast into the front of the case, and with a patinated bronze finish in good original condition. The original paper dial is a little dark with age, but is otherwise excellent, and seems to run OK; height 5¼" $75-100

038. C.1955, Jefferson Electric Co, Bellwood, IL, "Golden Hour" mystery clock [110 volt]. This clock is in good original condition, motor running. The cord has frayed where it enters the base of the clock [tape has been applied], but we would suggest a new cord. The gilt finish is mostly rubbed off from dusting. Parts for these clocks are available through Timesavers in Arizona. Height 9" $30-40

039. C.1898, Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel clock in good, original condition. The paper dial is a bit dark, and there are some minor chips and scrapes in the Adamantine finish. However, the movement was professionally cleaned in 1996 [label attached] and is in good running order. This model is similar to the Everett, except has 4 columns each side instead of 3. Strike the hours on a gong and the halves on a bell. Case needs polishing. Height 11" $75-100

040. C.1920, Seth Thomas Mahogany Tambour clock in good original condition. There is some wear to the dial, the numerals 4-5-6 rubbed from setting the time, but the rest of the clock is very good and the movement is clean and going; ht 9" $50-80

041. C.1875, Seth Thomas, 8-Day "Cottage" in restored condition. There are some small rosewood veneer repairs, and the case has been completely refinished {nice job}. The original dial pan has been repainted and is a bit too bright; interesting tablet of ‘Natural Bridge’. Clean, runs & strikes well; generally good plus condition; height 14" $150-250

042. C.1860, E. N. Welch, 8-Day Beehive in nice, restored condition. The tablet of St. Louis Courthouse has some flaking and has been touched up with wrong color, but is "OK". Original label has some tears. The orig dial pan is repainted; case has been varnished over the original finish and steel wooled nicely—good color and no open grain. Ht 19" $150-200

043. C.1930, American "Colonial" Alarm. The architectural style case is molded celluloid [very thin], ivory color top and bottom and granite color in-between; one small chip in cello around the dial. Using reliable Ingraham 30 hour movement in good running/alarming order. The alarm arrow is 4 hours off from actual alarm time, but function is fine. These were cased up by the folks who made the ladies dresser sets. Nice beginner’s novelty clock. Height 6" $75-100

044. C.1842 [dated], Oliver Weldon, Bristol, Conn, 30-hour wooden works bevel front, as-found. The case retains original grungy finish hiding attractive veneer. The wooden dial has been shellacked over, and the grommets pulled out so a too large key could be used. Label is dark and a chunk missing, but legible; ticks & strikes; height 26" $125-175

045. C.1870, Jerome & Co, [New Haven] 30-Hour OG, in original, as-found condition. The label is virtually all gone, peach tablet is flaking, top tablet cracked, and there are small edge chips in the veneer. Still the dial is good, hands original and movement sound. Main ogive veneer is xlnt; no pendulum; height 26" $90-120

046. C.1880, Ansonia Clock Co., "Parisian", walnut parlor clock, restored. This is a decent clock in running order, but has incorrect single barrel pendulum [should be double], has incorrect minute hand and top, center finial is turned to match the other 2, and should be as pictured in the Ansonia catalog [looks OK]; original dial is excellent; would be $450 if correct; ht 23" $175-275

046-a C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert "PETO" in very good, as-found condition. Some one has hand painted the glass. Replacement glasses are available from Merritts for $7, or transfers from Timesavers for $5.25. The rest of the clock is in very good original condtion, dirty finish abd discolored paper dial. Through the dirt, the 8-day T/S/Alarm movement is running; ht 20" $150-200

046-b C.1900, Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock This is the large model with serpentine top and rounded ends. Original dial, hand and hardware intact and cello is in good shape as well. The only minor drawback is a new rear dust cover, made of pine, painted black. Strikes a gong on the hour and a bell on the halves. This is a very popular Adamantine model; running; ht 10" $150-200

046-c C.1910, An American 8-day Time Only Gallery clock, 11" dial. The bezel is poplar with walnut finish; the dial has been repainted over the original. Has a decent look, clean and running; ht 17" $150-200

047. C.1830, Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn, 30-hour stencil column & splat, wooden movement with brass bushings. This clock shows wear on the columns and scratches around the winding holes on the dial. Moreover the tablet is a homemade affair out of a floral print. Main time bushing has been poorly soldered. Otherwise it is a neat old clock with fabulous label: "Brass Bushed Patent Clocks, Invented by Eli Terry, Made and Sold by Seth Thomas, Plymouth Connecticut". And with full operating instructions intact. This clock would respond nicely to proper restoration; height 35" $150-250

048. C.1930, Hamilton-Sangamo, 110v., Electric time & strike banjo clock [the Marshfield] in excellent original condition. Retains crisp, original finish and dial. Nice quality painted tablets with the U.S. Constitution in the bottom and a 13 star Federal theme in the throat. Seems to run fine when you plug it in. For someone who likes the banjo look, without the bother of winding; well made throughout; height 29" Sold for $75 new at the time. $200-300

048-a C.1975, English, Reproduction of a first century clepsydra or water clock. This is a well made item, copied faithfully from an example in the British Museum. Several different examples were produced. These sold for around $200 and I believe they are still worth the same. Ht 31" $150-250

048-b New Haven Clock Co., "Whitney" Westminster chime banjo clock in good condition. There is minor wear and tear to the case, and both cardstock tablets have been replaced with Catterall units. It is overall in very good shape, and with New Haven’s short pendulum chime movement, the rods in the throat of the clock. Retains original finish, hands, key, and pendulum; height 31" $225-325

048-c C.1982, Emperor Clock Co., Oakridge Hall clock in excellent condition. This is a large solid oak case with German triple chime movement, that would have retailed for around a thousand dollars. The case is an attractive medium gold color. Unfortunately the image was taken at night in the harshest of conditions, but you still get the proportions. Chimes every 15 minutes on your choice of tune. Ht 80 ½" $300-500

049. C.1925, German for the French Market, oak cased Westminster box clock. The door to the clock incised with straight lines and with a flower blossom at the top edge of each side, and with vertical aluminum trim to simulate leaded glass [one piece of glass only]. 050. C.1925, German, G. Boley, Jeweler’s Lathe, complete with faceplate, tail-stock, steady rest, 10 assorted collets, a Hamilton Beach motor, all mounted to a sturdy stand with a lap apron, and with a foot feed {spliced in}. Serial #9726. This lathe is in working order and a perfect tool for the beginning repairman. $200-250

051. C.1870, New Haven Clock Co., Mini 30-hour steeple clock in generally good condition. The case was stripped long ago and never properly finished; a few minor veneer chips. Still it retains original dial in good shape, good original label and a nice original star tablet {with some flakes}. Ht 14.5" $90-120

052. C.1910, German, Friederick Mauthe & Son, musical alarm clock in very good original condition. Usually these have been dropped, or the bottom dust cover is missing [case with minor pitting]. Although this one could stand some mild polishing, it retains original unstained dial and hands, and even original bottom tune label "Sailing in My Balloon #6750". Plays tune in lively fashion. Genuine one owner, untouched. Height 7" $90-120

052-a C.1890. E. Ingraham & Co, "Dew Drop" Calendar clock, time and strike [8-day]. The original dial has a lot of discoloration around the winding holes. The case was refinished long ago and only a trace of the graining remains; it is a pleasant maple color.; tablet and pendulum are original; needs new case hanger in rear. Very restorable; ht 24" $150-250

053. C.1912, Waterbury "Conductor" Carriage clock, time, strike & repeat, in good, as-found condition. 054. C.1925, Waltham Clock Co., a wonderful little mahogany desk clock with Art Nouveau styled hands and numerals {raised bronze}. The case with shell inlay in the 4 corners retains original finish in good shape, and the 8-day lever movement is in good running order. This is a perfect Beginner’s Clock in original condition. Height 10.5" $200-300

054-a C.1923, New Haven "Welton" Banjo in Very good original condition, except for tablet, which is a proper replacement {Mt. Vernon}. Has a good 8-day pendulum movement and is running. Clean original dial and light crazing on finish; ht 25 ¾" $175-225

054-b C.1919 [dated on rear], Seth Thomas, "Eight Inch Drop Octagon" in very good condition. If not for the incorrect hands, this would be excellent. Nicely refinished to a pleasant golden oak color; original dial & pendulum. 8-day time. Ht 17" $175-275

054-c C.1890, E. N. Welch "9 Inch Drop Octagon" in rosewood and in good restored condition. Note the gold leaf over gesso side trim was fading, and some one has masked and sprayed this with gold paint. It is a bit bright for me.; rosewood veneer is in good condition. Label has tears but is legible; ht 19" $175-225

054-d C.1845, Terry & Andrews, 8-Day Beehive with brass springs. The case was varnished over and rubbed out and has attractive veneer. Full label is very dark {no tears}, now protected under plastic; runs; ht 19" $175-225

054-e C.1910, Sessions Clock Co., Forestville. A hanging kitchen clock, the poplar case with mahogany stain, and with brass accents on each end of the fluted columns right and left. 056. C.1925, New Haven "WARING" Banjo in good original condition, with label. The only minor shortcoming is the missing finial at bottom. Otherwise this is a decent example of this model, with original screened "Deco" tablets, and rod strike movement, 8-day. Movement needs cleaning, and case will wax up nicely. Height 37" $300-400

056-a C.1900, French, a Porcelain China Clock in beige with saccents in rose pink and light blue. Has a good round bell strike movement, signed with "C-J" over an anchor, and numbered 2233 and with matched number pendulum. The shortcomings on this clock are a porcelain dial filled with spider lines and a repaired case. The back was broken out, repaired and reglazed. Runs & looks OK; height 12" Would be $600 if perfect. $250-350

056-b C.1960, Swiss, LeCoultre, "Baguette" clock in very good original condition. These little clocks sell new today for around $1750.—retail. The well jeweled lever movement is planted in a vertical train, as in a skeleton clock, and enclosed in a see through case. All of the action of the movement is visible from either side. Goes for a week; running; height 8" $400-500

056-c C.1900, Ansonia Octagon Short Drop in rosewood. Per pencil inscription on rear, this clock was restored by D.L. Foye in January 1974. There are some perimeter chips in the veneer; case has been stripped and varnished. Label has holes but is still legible. Retains great original dial & tablet. 8-day, running; looks quite decent; height 19" $175-225

057. C.1900, French, Small Morbier Wall Clock in complete condition. Has a great walnut 4-column case with carved top. The movement is a heavy iron framed Morez job with "prayer repeat", repeating the hour strike at 2 minutes past each hour. The photo is deceiving, so check dimension. Dial diameter is 5.5". One hinge is loose on door & strike hammer needs adjusting; otherwise mechanically sound; height 35" $275-375

057-a C.1900, Wm. L. Gilbert "Egyptian No. 58" in excellent original condition. If you are looking for one nice kitchen clock, this is the one. Retains original dial, hands, finish, tablet, pendulum and label {small piece missing from label}. Note fancy 3-dimensional base with shaped sides. 8-Day, T/S/Alarm, clean and running briskly. Height 23½" $175-225

As of 1998, there were 28 known examples of Attleboro clocks catalogued, and included also is a form for you to forward photo and data to Mr. Erickson, thereby expanding this list by one; movements and case parts were supplied by Waterbury. A neat piece; height 22 ¼" $200-300

058. Mixed lot: A circa 1890 German Vienna style wall regulator, with new top and new door {with modern pressed trims}, and the case refinished, the movement now with Waterbury style hands. Amazingly it runs OK. For parts or as a lobby decorator; ht 53" $300-400

058-a C.1915, E. Ingraham & Co, "NYANZA" Banjo clock in excellent original condition. There are two small spots on the paper dial where someone tried to clean it, but the clock is otherwise in perfect condition, clean and running. A great beginner’s banjo. Ht 39" $275-375

The barrel pendulum is of heavier construction than most and very nice; height 20.5" $250-350

059. C.1910, Jennings Bros {Conn. & Illinois} time only carriage clock in generally good original condition. There is minor wear to the paper dial where someone tried to clean it [but it is still quite good]. Jennings manufactured their own 8-day movement, with pin-pallet platform and it is running OK, despite needing cleaning. The case is all stamped brass, yet duplicates the French style exactly. Right beveled glass with corner chip, but still a neat American clock. Ht 5.6" $125-225

060. C.1918, Chelsea for Tiffany & Co., New York, {signed on dial} Serial number 112740, house strike Federal style mahogany mantel clock. The case and movement bear the same serial number, verifying Chelsea’s production of the entire clock. In addition, the case bears a model #10710, which we cannot identify. The case needs work: missing four brass pad feet, right return glued on incorrectly and veneer bubbles on top. Still, an unusual model that will respond to restoration. Height 16.5" $250-350

061. C.1930, a box lot of jeweler’s tools, one and a half staking sets, a dozen collets, mixed jeweler’s files, screw drivers, eye loop, pin vises and a neat jeweler’s saw. $60-90

062. C.1915, German, Hamburg American, Outside Bell carriage alarm clock. The case was originally nickel plated and is now painted black. Still, the beveled glass is good and original dial intact. A decent example of this unusual alarm, ticks stops. Ht 8.5" $75-125

063. C.1947, Lux "Chalet", Nodding Bird in fair, as-found condition. Minute hand is a little loose and the weights are a bit oxidized. The chimney has broken off and been reglued and paint touched up. Runs fine. Height 7.5" $20-40

065. C.1935, French, Westminster Chime Wall clock in the Art Deco style, with fancy glass having silvered design. With French "Vedette" movement, chiming on straight steel rods. Height 23" $150-200

067. C.1920, German, Walnut Box Wall Clock, now with a different single weight movement, by Gustav Becker, C.1880 serial #535065. 069. C.1920, American 8-Day Advertising Clock for "Gold Prize Coffee", with restorations. The front surface was badly weathered and someone has touched up the numerals and the ad-line, but the basic design is original. The case has replaced top a bottom moldings that have been freshly painted yellow. Would probably be worth $600 if original. Note pendulum correctly shows out the bottom. A rare clock. Height 32" $250-350

070. C.1928, E. Ingraham & Co., "Milford", oak gallery clock in good as-found condition. Someone has painted the original bezel with gold paint and sprayed the hands black. The oak case retains original finish. Paper dial has a water stain from 6 to 9, but is good enough to keep. 8-day time only. Diameter = 17" $225-325

071. C.1895, Edw. P. Baird, Plattsburgh, NY, an advertising clock, as-found. Although this clock was chemically stripped, thus harming the paper mache, you can still make out enough of the original ad to see that what it says is correct. This is a mini case [26"] with fancy bow-tie [see "Okonite" model for comparison]. Paint is exterior oil base, maroon, heavily applied with ad carefully lettered in white. Original label is 80% there; dial poorly repapered; original movement. Note ad for "Kelley’s Headache Cures" is unknown. This would be $2000, if all original. Height 26" $300-400

072. C.1910, German copy of the American long drop calendar, 8-day, time & strike. This clock has a replaced bezel that is slightly too small in diameter, and the walnut case has been refinished with a very heavy coat of satin lacquer. Dial and hands are original. Seems to run and strike OK; generally very good condition; height 32" $250-300

073. C.1870, Terry Clock Co, small walnut cottage clock, the front door scalloped and incised like a larger walnut parlor clock. Using 30 hour pivoted pendulum movement. No label, but a real cute clock in original condition, with original wavy glass in door; height 11.5" $150-200

073-a C.1905, New Haven Clock Co., "Norwich Line–C" model pressed oak gingerbread in excellent original condition. The 3 models in this series are all oversize, plus have flowing side trims that really adds eye appeal. This clock is all original, including painted dial, tablet and pendulum. A great kitchen clock. Ht 25" $175-275

073-b C.1905, New Haven Clock Co., "Norwich Line–A" model pressed oak gingerbread in good condition. The case has been stripped and needs a better finish; dial has chips that have been touched up; movement operates, but is gummed up and needs attention. Still, this is a desirable model, complete with alarm; ht 25" $150-200

073-c C.1876, Seth Thomas Sons, & Co., New York, "Pattern No. 8013" figural clock. The spelter case has a couple of ‘bruises", but no breaks. It has been re-sprayed a light metallic copper color. The dial has a chip at the strike winding hole. The clock is otherwise in very good original condition. Runs. Height 15" $175-275

073-d C.1890, Seth Thomas, Oak Short drop, as-found. This clock was painted white and has been stripped and refinished and there are still a few white specs here and there; the stripper darkened the label beyond reading; dial was varnished over at the same time, so has a beige cast. Tablet repainted poorly. Runs; ht 24" $150-200

074. C.1890, French, Bronze Architectural Clock in good, as-found condition, incomplete. The case on this clock has excellent detail, with swags, faces and scrolls and surmounted by a pineapple finial; the porcelain dial is excellent. Quality Marti movement ticks and strikes on demand. However, the sounding board, strike hammer and pendulum are missing {old gong is present}. There are less than $10 in parts involved and some time to install. Otherwise original and sound; ht 12.5" $275-375

075. C.1995 [modern] Pillar & Scroll. This is a nice ¾ size made by Timepiece Co., Haddenfield, NJ. Uses a good Hermele floating balance movement, striking on duo-tone rods. This clock is in good condition and has potential for someone who wants the look of an early American clock; movement needs cleaning. Note ship tablet is printed on heavy paper, taped in. Ticks sluggishly; needs service. Well made case. Height 25" $175-275

076. C.1901, Ansonia "Marquise" Crystal regulator in running order. Note the top cast urn is missing; you can remove the trim that is there now, and fill the hole with a smooth head machine screw, giving you a "Baronet", or you can look for an urn. Has a good open ‘scape dial and original pendulum. Runs. Height 13" $275-375

077. C.1935, E. Ingraham, "Treasure Island" Banjo, as-found, now with wooden top finial and mirror in lieu of pirate tablet in lower door [glass replacements are available from Karl Barathy]. Has good 8-day movement with ‘ding-dong’ strike; mov’t needs cleaning. The case with original finish shedding will need attention. Good silvered dial intact, also orig hands and pendulum. These seem to be worth around $600 in good condition; height 39" $250-300

078. C.1925, New Haven, "Welton" time only banjo with good 8-day pendulum movement, and original stenciled paint tablet of Mr. Vernon. This clock has seen some hard use and the dial has been touched up, but it seems to run fine and is a fair to good example of this model. Original finish is crazed; no label. Height 25" $125-175

079. C.1913, Seth Thomas, "Prospect No. 2", mahogany veneer with marquetry inlay. This clock took a tumble onto the edge of a chair, and the bezel is bent and the veneer is slightly abraded; original finish is alligatored and may need stripping. Original cello dial is in good shape. Ht 13" $100-150

080. C.1910, Ingraham "NORTHWESTERN", oak store regulator with calendar. This clock was painted gray over the original varnish, and has since been stripped, leaving a few minor traces of gray. Top tablet is clear, the original lower has a corner crack. Original paper dial is dirty. Still the case is sound and complete, and the hardware is all original. Looks good on the wall; height 39" $250-300

081. C.1885, Seth Thomas "Lincoln, V.P.", 2-weight, time and strike, as-found. This clock came from a barn in Rochester, NH. The repairman managed to get on new cord, but used a punch to close in the bushings. The oil has dried and the movement is sluggish. Replacement weights seem OK. The walnut case is sound and complete with old finish; orig dial shows wear and flakes around 4. Original damascene pendulum perfect. Careful restoration will produce a nice clock; height 27" $500-700

081-a C.1890, French, Brass Architectural clock, the front with a fountain motif. The case has been disassembled and polished on all sides. The good Japy movement has been sprayed with oil and although it runs, will need cleaning. Dial with some hairlines and old repairs. Ht 14" $300-500

082. C.1915, German, Junghans, 2-Weight "box style", oak cased wall regulator, in generally good condition. Glass is all flat. Height 33" $350-450

083. C.1928, New Haven "Washington" Banjo, in nice original condition, except for the tablets, which have been replaced with Catterall card stock copies. Retains good black and gold label on the rear {some tears in label}. This model chimes Westminster tune on the quarter hours. A very clean clock, running; height 42" $300-500

083-a C.1950, Sweden, Ljungstrems Urinderal-fabrik, gilt wood cartel clock in the French style, with "Westerstrand" on the well painted convex dial {dial is painted yellow}. These post war wall clocks were very popular in the ‘50s and are very well made. 8-day time and strike. A couple of trim tips reglued on case, but is a nice beginner’s clock. Height 22" $175-275

083-b C.1910, Ansonia Clock Co., "Eagle", as-found. This is a $900 combination when it includes a jeweled sash watch. In this case someone found a good Ansonia Dollar watch to put with the gilt statue. Watch runs and eagle has never been broken. Height 9" We figure it must still be worth $300-400

084. C.1875, Austrian, Small Two Weight "Veinna Regulator" with restorations. Note the two columns are now modern barley twists from a cabinet supply house, painted black; finials are new. The back of the case was warped and was striated on a table saw to flatten it. Still, as a decorator, it is attractive and unusual to find in this size; runs fine, and with old wooden handle crank. Dial = 5.5", height 40" $500-700

085. C.1880, Ingraham 8-Day "Doric" in very good original condition. This clock, with alarm, has been professionally cleaned and is in good running order. 086. C.1890, Metropolitan Mfg Co., 32 Cortlandt St, NY "Eclipse" {on good rear label w/tear}, a good black enamel over wood mantel clock by E. Ingraham. 087. C.1930, New Haven "Welton" Time Only pendulum banjo, 8-day. The eagle has been broken off and reglued; otherwise this is a very clean little clock with good label and original finish. Ht 24.5" $125-175

088. C.1974, German, for Horolovar Co., NY, repro of the famous Ignatz flying pendulum clock, as-found. The case and movement are complete, corners with scrapes, and the string and ball are missing, also the set knob is missing. Still will restore; ht 10" $60-90

089. C.1925, New Haven, "Whitney" 8-Day time & strike banjo in very good, as-found condition. This is a decent model with ‘ding-dong’ strike on steel rods, and with pendulum movement. The movement is dirty and the hands are loose; dial with some oxidation; rear label curling but legible. Potential; height 29 ½" $175-225

090. C.1875, H. J. Davies, New York {signed on movement}, novelty walnut "shaving" clock in very good condition. These have a well made lever movement and a compartment with hinged door for toiletries and accessories. Some times the tablet is a mirror; this one is clear. Clean & running; ht 16" $275-375

091. C.1890, Ingraham "Dew Drop", time & calendar in restored condition. The case has been refinished to a medium walnut {no graining} and the dial repapered and with some additional wear. Cosmetically this is a very good looking clock. Runs well, 8-day. Height 23 ½" $200-300

092. C.1910, German, for the U.S. market, arts and crafts style oak wall regulator, spring driven. There are a couple of nicks and scrapes in the case, but it is generally good. Retains perfect porcelain dial with Arabic numerals. Mov’t clean and running, original pendulum with coppery finish – no dents; height 37" $225-325

092-a C.1900, French, Brass over wood mantel clock with a black glass dial. This is a cute clock that was damaged in transit, and the glass dial was cracked {the pieces are still there and it looks OK}. Above the dial are two doves among grapes, and supporting the dial from below, two winged lions. Retains original fancy brass hands. 8-day pendulum movement; height 15" $150-200

093. C.1910, Chelsea Clock for for Ashcroft Co., New York, engine room clock with 6" dial. This clock has hinged bezel and key lock and there is no key to open it. I was able to rock the clock and get it to run for a few seconds, so we are sure the balance is intact. Dial has been garishly painted and will need re-doing. The clock is mounted on a home-made oak stand [looks OK]. Per Ashcroft spec, movement is 180° from standard position. Ht of stand=11.5" $175-275

094. C.1890, French, Japy, for H. B. Stanwood {on dial}, a grey marble mantel clock in very good condition, clean and running. The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is that the lower right return fell off [now reglued] and a hunk of marble is missing from the return {not visible from the front}. The porcelain dial is perfect and with original trefoil hands. Height 10.7" $125-175

094-a C.1890, German, a small 1-Weight wall regulator, with improper restorations. 1> the movement is not original to the case – two other sets of holes are present; 2> the dial is from a spring clock and has been married to the movement by drilling 3 large holes in the front plate; and 3> the top to the case is new, and case refinished. Despite all these items, it looks and runs OK; height 36" $275-375

094-b C.1850, Connecticut Clock Co., New York, 30 hour fusee steeple, as-found. Although it does run, the pine case is skinned of all veneer and tablet + hands are from a kitchen clock. Label is about 85% and quite legible. The movement alone should be worth our estimate; ht 19" $150-200

095. C.1910, Ansonia "Regulator A", long drop school clock in walnut, with restorations. The brass bezel and pendulum are new {proper type}. Original paper over zinc dial is discolored and has had the center glued in after the solder joint failed. The case on the other hand is one of the nicest I’ve seen, with veneer all intact and with original finish in good shape. Retains original beat scale as well. Runs and strikes; ht 32" $350-450

096. C.1900, Swedish, by Junghans factory in Sweden, small 8-day "R-A" regulator, striking on a coiled wire gong. The case has been refinished, and there are some minor veneer chips in the walnut case; lower rh finial missing, bottom finial too small. Still it is generally original, complete and sound and is running; will respond to restoration; height 28.5" $250-350

097. C.1865, Waterbury Clock Co, "Romance", cast figural clock, 8-day, restored. This case design was one of Nicholas Mueller’s, and used by Kroeber as well. This clock has been refinished with modern metallic enamel and has a pretty good look. Retains original backboard, label and movement. The dial is repapered and needs doing again. A good example of this model, easily improved; ht 21" $200-300

098. C.1970, Dutch Reproduction Wall Clock, with eight day West German movement, striking on the bell that supports Atlas on top the clock. Chain drive movement seems to run and strike fine, but probably time for a cleaning. Mahogany case with silvered brass dial and cast brass tear drop weights. Complete and sound. Height 19.5" $175-275

098-a C.1900, French, Brass cased time only carriage clock, signed E-J-P, in good original condition. This is a nice small carriage clock and retains original lever platform, good porcelain dial and original hands. Runs briskly. Owing to the size, signature and condition, this clock is worth an extra amount. Height [handle up], 4.9" $350-450

099. C.1885, Ansonia "Epsom" in walnut, 8-day, as found. The original finials are slightly damaged but can be restored; the floral tablet is now clear. Has alternate fancy Ansonia pendulum, two tone with embossed button in the center. Fragments of label remain on rear. Clock has never been stripped, but finish is dry and crazed; retains original black paper inside case. Also with large movement with Geneva stopwork; striking on a nickeled bell. This is an uncommon clock; if you can locate a tablet you will have a very nice item; ht 18" $200-300

100. C.1820, Irish Tall Clock, 8-day, as-found. This clock is in distress, and should only be tackled by a determined finish carpenter. The case has laid in an attic for 20 years and the glue joints have failed. Moreover, the case was painted with a graining kit top to bottom, to disguise repairs. Finally, the artist even repainted the dial with floral corners and a robed prophet of sorts in the arch. The English movement is complete and sound with original pend, weights, hands, bell, etc. Dial sig: Rob’t Russell. Ht 84" $600-800

101. C.1874, Ithaca, "No. 7 Shelf Cottage", perpetual calendar clock, as- found. When we picked this clock up, Mr. Bachman had taken the top movement out for service and we put it back in loosely, and couldn’t find the suspension wire [50 cents]. We did find the nickel plated pendulum and it is in the bottom, rear of the case. The top dial has been re-papered, bottom dial and rollers {and movement} original. Note we have the same model in tomorrow's sale as well. Height 22" $500-700

102. Mixed lot: E. Howard #5 weight movement, pendulum and hardware, in a 20 year old case, similar to the #11 keyhole. This case was made on Cape Cod, of old wood, with an old jeweler’s label, meant to deceive. The graining on the case is poor and has been hidden under a lot of dark stain. The new iron dial has been antiqued to look old. There is no known example of an original Howard with a 12" dial [chapter ring] and case length of 33", and you can see the pendulum and tablet decoration are higher than they should be. Still, this is a very good looking and well made clock that runs well and would be perfect for an office or reception area. Ht 33" $900-1200

103. C.1915, E. Ingraham & Co., "Mt. Vernon" in oak. If this clock had not been over-painted with brown paint, it would be in Sunday’s sale. However, the paint was applied over the shellac and is flaking off in places, so we are confident it will strip easily to golden oak. See "Texas" & "Lily" models for this Ingraham tablet; original pendulum and dial {some discoloration to paper}. See Ly’s Ingraham book, #1039, this model from the National line. Would be $400 if original. Height 22" $225-325

104. C.1920, Waltham Clock Co., Serial #22392, Mahogany tambour clock, as-found. This clock came to us from storage and is basically sound, except the hour hand is missing. Has Waltham platform lever ‘scape, and still ticks, and both springs are OK. House strike on a heavy flat wire gong. The case has some minor nicks and bruises, but is overall good+ and will clean up; silvered dial is still good. This is a big tambour, width = 24", ht = 9.5". $175-275

105. C.1929, New Haven "Inglewood" Westminster Chime mantel clock in very good original condition. The only think that keeps this from being excellent is that 4 little pads that used to help restrain the movement have fallen out and now the movement simply rotates when you try to wind it [steel brackets are still there]. Quality, type 380 movement will run but needs cleaning; old chime rods intact. Exterior finish on mahogany case is original and excellent; height 12.5" $175-275

105-a. C. 1929, New Haven "Inglewood" Westminster Chime mantel clock in very good original condition. From a home in Medford, Mass., this clock is the same model as above. Has been used faithfully and is in running/chiming order. The lower back of the case has swelled and the rear door will not stay shut; a patient cabinet man can correct this. A special note on these #380 movements, the right or strike train winds to the right and the other 2 wind to the left. With original chime rods, pend, etc. Height 12.5" $175-275

105-b C.1900, French, Porcelain China Clock for Marshall Field, Chicago [on dial]. Other than a single dark crack in the dial, [about 3"], this is a very nice porcelain clock, with applied gold accents on the front and sides, all done with exceptional detail, and the front with a sky blue accent border. Retains a quality round French movement that ticks and strikes. Ht 14" $400-500

105-c C.1890, Austrian, 2-Weight, Vienna Regulator, in relatively dirty condition. A couple bits of trim have been glued on with contact cement and come loose; the dial with a spider of hairlines at 11, and the entire case has been varnished over. There are 2 nicely engraved weights that might [?] go to better use on a clock with engraved pendulum. A well made Viennese movement is complete and sound and original to the case. Ht 51" $650-750

105-d C.1910, National Electric Clock Co., New York, a battery alarm clock with provision for lighted dial. The case with gold plating over iron is in exceptional condition [see color image on website], and this is the first one I have seen in a long time by this company. Ticks and stops; original as-found condition. Overall excellent; ht 10½" $250-350

105-e C.1925, American Advertising Clock, NOW with a hand painted dial with ducks and flowers and with a bright yellow center. Originally this was a gentleman's razor advertisement {Gem Cutlery Co.} , and if it still had the barbershop scene intact, it would be worth $2500. Still great parts to restore a Gem clock that is incomplete. Note rear label is excellent and movement is intact. Height of case = 28" $150-250

105-f Mixed lot: an incomplete Seth Thomas move-ment [strike train missing], now in a craft project clock with a home-made wooden geared pump with governor assembly in a derrick style case. When you turn a crank handle on the assembly below, the gears go around and simulate a pumping action {actually well executed} Clock does keep time. Needs rear dust cover [6 x 6" piece of wood] Height 28" $150-250

105-g C.1900, Ansonia Clock Co., Open ‘Scape movement, complete. Includes bezel and outer dial, dial center, escapement, pendulum and gong. [note hands incorrect]. Dial = 4", bezel = 5" $75-100

105-h C.1790, English, a lot of two 30 hour pull wind movements, as-found. Both are missing minute shaft and motion works, one less count wheel. Inside trains both intact and with verges. Great parts for the restorer. Plates measure 5 x 6" One bid for both items, $150-250

105-j C.1900, Ansonia, Outer Case [Oak] for their "GALLERY" model. Complete, this is a $1200 clock, and they are difficult to find. Takes an 18" dial. Good condition. Height of case, 28" $200-300

105-k C.1920, German, Black Forest, "Cuckoo & Quail" as-found. This clock came from a barn on Cape Cod and is in a state of neglect, the bellows have all failed and are loose in the case. All 3 flutes are still there. Retains heavy cast plate, 3-train movement, and both birds are intact as well. One weight does not match the other 2 [but weighs the same]. The leaves are nicely carved, and this clock will restore nicely. Height 25" $275-375

106. C.1895, Waterbury "Louis" enameled iron mantel clock in good condition. This clock rode here in the back of a pickup and the cast trim above the 12 got broken {piece is there}. It is worth fixing, as the clock is otherwise in excellent original condition, with premium movement and open ‘scape dial; porcelain chapter ring is perfect; height 17" $150-200

107. C.1860, French, White Marble lyre clock, as-found. The marble frame is firm and unbroken, however several pieces of ormolu are missing: sunburst at top, acanthus drop either side, and one rosette, right side; other trims are loose. The fancy porcelain dial is perfect {faded signature}, and retains original chased hands. The well made Marti movement is dirty; counter balance pendulum is incorrect. Note this clock has knife-edge suspension, and the brilliant ring is designed to swing from side to side as the clock runs. Potential for someone who can do the castings; would be $4000 if complete. Ht 17" $1750-2250

107-a C.1890, French, Bronzed Spelter Figural Clock of a girl fishing with a net. This is generally a nice clock, but got bumped around a little and the feet are loose, the urn above the clock is bent and loose, and the brass molding on the base was broken and soldered. The figure is sound and unbroken and is a very nice subject matter. The good bell strike French movement has open escapement and a good porcelain dial, runs and strikes, but needs cleaning. Quite large: 24.5" $750-1000

108. C.1805, Peter Trott, Boston {Mass}, a wonderful little mahogany bracket clock with a watch movement. This originally had an English style fusee/verge movement as appropriate for this maker, which was updated later to a lever by Chester Woodworth, Springfield, Mass. The original dial and hands are intact, and it ‘runs’. The case has some chips in the mahogany molding and some veneer loss, but is certainly worth some time and restoration. Height 11" Would be worth $1000 if original. $300-400

109. C.1830, French, Ormolu Figural Clock. I don’t recognize the figure, but he/she has an open jewel box in front of him/her, and appears to be looking into a small hand held mirror. To the left is a sword at rest. Below the plain plinth is a cast and gilded floral fantasy, and the very base a fantasy of shells and scrolls. Note this clock was dropped long ago and the left front foot was riveted back on [very old repair]. At the same time the dial was cracked and is still in need of attention; dial also worn at winding holes; hands do not match. With an 8-day silk thread movement, bearing the stamp of Nicolas Douillon, a quality maker. No pendulum; no bell; needs work; height 13" $350-550

110. C.1925, Waltham Clock Co., 8-day Boudoir clock, the oval frame bearing the clock suspended in a yoke with turn screws on either side. The clock seems to run. The silvered dial has a few oxidation spots on it. The case has some small round beading missing around the dial and other nicks and scrapes, but is in overall good+ condition. Stem wind below 6. Height 11" $150-200

111. C.1880, Seth Thomas, "Parlor No. 3" perpetual calendar clock with time dial at top and lower dial with day, date and month. Note this mechanism corrects for both short months and leap year. The movements are good and the rollers are original. Unfortunately the case was stripped with a rotary brush and there are deep scratches in the mahogany which will never come out. The dials are neatly repainted; original labels [2] intact. Estimate reflects condition; height 27" $450-550

112. C.1925, Waltham Clock Co., Waltham, Mass, Regulator No. 34, late version with S curve bottom, in oak, serial #3595. This is basically a good clock and retains original finish {with flaking and wear} original dial, hands, weight, etc. What is missing is the lower baffle board and tie down. This board can be easily cut by even a beginning carpenter, and the tie down is available from Timesavers. Mov’t properly signed Waltham Clock Co., needs new cable. Height 32½" $700-900

113. C.1980, Chinese [People’s Republic], repro-duction cloisonné crystal regulator, as found, serial number 26. This clock came to us from storage, and the rear glass is broken out, and a couple of the vertical columns are slightly bent. Still this is a great looking piece with enamel in colors of white, aqua, red and blue, and with a lovely porcelain cameo pendulum. It does tick and strike, but may need service. A great decorator clock. Would be $3500 if old. Height 19" $300-400

113-a C.1830, Jeromes & Darrow, Bristol, Conn, 8-day carved column and splat in generally good, as-found condition. This clock has not run in a long while and will need cleaning. The original dial and label are quite nice; note bright red floral corners. The label touts "ivory bushed" movements, however, this is a Non-ivory 8-day movement, made slightly later by Jeromes and Darrow. See Ken Roberts, page 144, fig 52 for this movement. New mirror does not fit and has a mask. Top ½" of splat missing; ht 35" $300-400

114. C.1980, Mass area, Repro of Howard No. 5 Banjo clock. This is a well made clock, the case of hardwood with a walnut finish and well painted tablets. The movement is a Proctor type weight drive unit, mounted with a single screw from the rear. Clock runs and keeps time, but we had to untie the cable to get the weight out and you will need to reattach the cable to the movement {10 minutes work}. The old ones are bringing over $2000. Height 29" $600-800

115. C.1890, Seth Thomas "12 Inch Drop Octagon", in mahogany, as-found. This is basically a clock with good potential, the dial repainted and the movement clean; screws are missing from the dial pan The case has dried out and several glue joints need attention. The original finish is in good shape and will wax up nicely; 8-day time; height 23½" $175-225

116. C.1930, E. Ingraham & Co., "Treasure Island" banjo, from storage. The lower tablet is replaced with a cardstock print and the top eagle [old] is one size too small for the clock. We took the dial off to check the movement and it is dirty; barely ticks but is complete and sound. This model strikes on melodic duo-tone rods on the hour and a single note on the halves. Mahogany case retains good, original finish and an excellent original label; ht 38.5" $300-400

117. C.1876, H. J. Davies, New York, Patent iron clock with black enamel finish and original gilding and statue of Beethoven intact. See Ansonia book, the La France, for identical case and figure, however this clock would have been made prior to Davies acquisition by Ansonia. Note case needs to be tightened as a couple of nuts/screws have worked loose, and the dial center has come unsoldered. Otherwise complete and sound; finish xlnt; ht 16¾" $250-350

118. C.1960, Reproduction, William Munroe, Concord, Mass, shelf clock. The workman used a factory weight driven regulator movement, either S.B.Terry or Seth Thomas, and cut out the rectangular plates to simulate the look of a New England movement. The case itself is crude, with a hinged door in the lower plinth, and the generous use of stain to give the look of age. The kidney shaped iron dial is spuriously signed, and with a seconds bit [allowing for the movement used]. The consignor paid a lot of money for this fake, which has a primitive look; height 42.5" $750-1000

119. C.1850, New England, Presentation Banjo. This clock was purchased through the most popular on line "e-auction" in June of this year, without a guarantee of the description. The dial, which is not original to this case is signed: L & A Hutchins, Concord. Extra holes in the drum edge show that the bezel is not original either [although it is old]. The pendulum also is not original to the movement, as the crutch is freshly filed to accommodate the impulse block. 4 balls are missing from the bracket [2 ea side]. Despite all this, the weight driven movement appears original to the case, repro tablets are great, and it does run. Height 39" $750-1000

120. C.1830, Eli Terry & Son, Plymouth, Conn, short transitional stencil column & splat, with restorations. The dial I believe is from a later clock {minutes are marked outside the numeral ring} and needs some realignment to allow for winding. The columns and splat have been professionally re-stenciled. The lower tablet appears to be repainted in place, and with an interesting heart shaped orifice. The label has a large water stain, but is still legible. In need of some attention, but it does tick and strike OK; carved feet are original; height 30 ½" $500-700

120-a C.1965, a grandmother clock. The Smith’s movement and dial were purchased from Elmer O. Stennes in Weymouth, Mass. The case is home made of solid black walnut. The finials have broken off and need attention, left one without tip. Edges of a couple of moldings have chips and corners knocked off. Movement needs service, but is still running and chiming. Has a rocking ship dial, but ship and wire up from verge are missing. A man with patience could make a nice clock out of this; ht 66" $500-750

121. C.1930, mixed lot, a Mahogany Cased Banjo, now spring driven, that is perhaps the most eye catching banjo in this sale. Although the movement is not original to the case, a dial has been fitted properly and you can only tell on disassembly. The tablet of father time, sitting by a globe with a dial in his hand is really superb. The case with additional cast brass trim to dress it up. A great clock for a guest room or reception area where an impressive look is desired; view color image on internet; height 34" $300-500

122. C.1913, Waterbury "Ship’s Bell No. 3", in generally good condition. The clock took a tumble some time ago, breaking the crystal {now replaced}, giving some small dings around the brass bezel, and a chip in the porcelain dial by 8 {not too bad}. Still, it has a good clean look, and is running and striking; on a mahogany base with brass feet. By the stamp behind the dial, it appears that it was last serviced in Maine in 1948. Ht 8.8" $175-225

122-a C.1930, Seth Thomas "Merrimac" Ship’s Strike wall clock in very good original condition. Retains original nickel finish with some wear and oxidation. The original dial is in nice shape with only minor wear around the winding holes. Runs and strikes; diameter = 7" $250-350

123. C.1880, Ithaca, "No. 6 Hanging Library", now without carved top trim and bottom finial incorrect. The top dial is incorrectly re-papered; the rollers however are nicely recovered. Despite these shortcomings, the clock is otherwise in pretty good condition, with original movements and lower dial intact, and the clock runs and strikes and the calendar seems to change fine. Potential; height as photographed: 27" $450-550

123-a C.1877 {dated label}, Seth Thomas "Parlor Calendar No. 3" in rosewood, as-found. Although this clock seems to run and strike fine, and the calendar is functional, the case has some problems. The veneer on the top bezel has bubbled and has a couple of chips [now stained in], and the entire case has been varnished over. The time dial is a photocopy, stained to look old. Retains original calendar dial, rollers & hand. Top glass with crack [inexpensive to replace], ht 26 ¾" $375-475

124. C.1830, Silas Hoadley, Plymouth Conn, "Franklin Clock", time and strike, long case. Clear center tablet is new glass {revealing xlnt label, with water stain}. The lower "Time is Money" tablet has broken and been glued in 3 places {no pieces missing}; dial flaking badly; top glass old. The ivory bushed movement has had several bushing replaced with brass, and the hour pipe is cracked and needs restoration. Original stenciling on columns and splat is weak, but should be left alone. Has potential; ht 37" $275-375

125. C.1835, Eli Terry Jr., Terryville, Conn, stenciled half column and splat. Although there are several veneer repairs {and some that need attention}, this clock retains a good label, and original tablet {with 15% flaking}, and a very good dial with gilt corners, and good embossed pendulum as well. Some restoration will yield big results; ht 35" $175-275

125-a C.1855, Unmarked Connecticut Marine lever timepiece, in an octagonal case with rosewood veneer. This clock appears to have had its dial repainted some time ago {and with wear and chips}, but is otherwise in excellent original condition; ht 8.5" $125-175

126. C.1830, Hopkins & Alfred, Harwinton, Conn, short, transitional, stenciled column and splat in relatively good, as-found condition. Clock was wound up and we had to cut the cord to get the weights out… someone refit the hour hand to the wooden pipe with a piece of tin, and so tight that it is hopelessly stuck, thus holding the dial hostage. Damage will likely result when you force it apart. Glass is old, lower now clear with a floral print. Stenciling and claw feet good. Worth some effort; ht 29" $400-500

127. C.1915, Seth Thomas, "Chime Clock No. 64", 5-Bell Sonora in good running order. This clock had something dropped on the top, denting the veneer and making some scratches. Otherwise, the movements have been cleaned and the clock is in good running/chiming order. Interestingly, the "lyre" inlay on the front is not illustrated in the Seth Thomas catalog, but is original. Ht 14" $350-450

128. C.1920, French, Art Deco, 3-piece marble mantel set. Has a good round French bell strike movement with Japy Freres trademark. The marble is an interesting dark red veins in white, with contrasting gray panels. The two side pieces are well made and the marble is in excellent condition {very minor edge abrasion}. A casting of roses accents the dial. Minute hand replaced; runs & strikes; very clean; ht 9" $175-275

129. C.1908, Self Winding Clock Co., New York, Model No. 10 wall clock in oak. This clock had been painted white and was refinished with spar varnish and is a bit shiny. {some white paint in a few grooves} The original dial is absolutely excellent, as are hands, labels, switches and wiring. This one with style "F" movement. We had the cousin to this clock in our last sale, lot 512. Retains original Western Union tag and serial number 176780. Height 30" $400-500

130. C.1931 {dated}, English, Potts & Sons, Leeds, a good chain fusee postal clock with British royal crest on both the movement and the dial. This is a very well made and robust clock that has not run in many years, but will respond well to a cleaning and new suspension spring. Matching serial numbers on movement & pendulum, # 311333. Diameter 15" $250-350

131. C.1925, German, Hamburg-American, for the French Market, Westminster box clock, oak cased, as-found. Someone has hand lettered the name "Fontana" on the dial. Interesting Deco influence case with geometric lines. Movement is complete, but dirty; will need cleaning. Flat glass. Height 27" $125-175

132. C.1905, Waterbury Clock Co., "12-Inch Octagon Drop R.C." with calendar, in rosewood. This clock came to us from storage and will need cleaning. There are two veneer repairs on the bezel [not bad]; the paper dial with both wear and dirt, and the calendar hand is missing. Retains both inside instructions and rear label; 8-day; height 23" $175-275

133. C.1895, French, Tan Onyx mantle time piece, in good original condition. There are some corner and edge chips in the onyx, but the porcelain dial is perfect. Note turned bronze corner columns and ball feet. Has a good French movement with Swiss lever platform. The back is a tight fit in the canister and a little hard to remove. Running. Height 7" $100-150

134. C.1840, Wells Forbes, Bristol, NH, mahogany cornice top, 30 hour WW, with alarm {winds at 2} with restorations. The case was refinished some time ago; minute hand is too short for dial. Label with a few tears and holes, but still quite legible. Overall good condition. Height 29" $125-175

135. C.1835, Jonathan Burr, Lexington, Mass, 30 hour "groaner", wooden works, as-found. This clock has an old crazed finish and no evidence of stenciling. Original mirror. Old wavy top glass is cracked. Good label. Top right return is missing; small veneer chips along base. Excellent wooden dial with gilt corners; overall good condition; height 35" $150-200

136. C.1880, E. Ingraham, "Slant Top Cottage", 30-Hour, in fair to good original condition. Biggest shortcoming is that someone has scraped off the border around the tablet scene, but this can be restored. Original dial, hands and pendulum intact. Case is sound; ticks OK; height 13" $90-120

137. C.1910, E. Ingraham, "Elite" Black Enameled Wood shelf clock in good as-found condition. This clock is dirty and the movement needs cleaning, but is complete and sound. Dial has discolored somewhat but acceptable; pendulum bob is new; ht 11" $50-75

138. C.1910, Sessions Black Enameled Wood, shelf clock in complete, but dirty condition. Bezel, hands and hardware are all in good condition; original dial with gilt center. Strikes the hours on a gong and the halves on a bell; 8-day. Ht 10" $50-75

139. C.1907, E. Ingraham, Black Enameled Wood shelf clock, in complete but dirty condition. Similar to ‘Don’ or ‘Princeton’ models pictured in Ingraham catalog, but this one with smooth wooden columns {original}. Will clean up; eight 12" $50-75

140. C.1868, The Terry Clock Co., Waterbury, Conn, Terry "Patent Timepiece", in a cast spelter architectural case, now without finish. Retains full rear label {now very dark}, and original pivoted pendulum movement. The hands are improperly replaced as is pend bob, however these are easily corrected. Original paper dial is water stained; height 9.5" $75-125

141. C.1875, Wm. L. Gilbert "Patent Marine Timepiece", in a rosewood veneered octagon case. The dial was poorly papered over a painted pan and is water stained and the case was refinished long ago and the grain left open. Original hands and decent label. Decent look; height 11.5" $90-120

142. C.1890, Seth Thomas "Ship’s Bell" {Outside Bell}, in good original condition. Mr. Bachman bought this clock from the family of Capt. Robert Macy who sailed out of New Bedford, MA. It was allegedly his clock for home use. It ticks and strikes [fan is loose and it strikes too fast], and retains original dial, hands and rear label [about 85%]. Early model with drum case screwed to wooden back and twist off bezel. Most of the nickel is still intact. Height 10.5" $325-425

143. C.1900, German, Musical Alarm clock, nickel over stamped steel construction, alarming with the tune of "Dixie". The nickel plating is still generally good, with some rust showing here and there. Original paper dial intact. Ticks and stops, plays tune a good long while. Height 7" $75-100

144. C.1900, German, Musical Alarm clock, stamped steel construction, now painted gold, alarming with two good tunes: "Bicycle Built for Two" and "My Country ‘Tis of Thee". Original paper dial is a little stained but OK as is. Seems to run, although out of beat; small dent in left side of case, but glass OK; ht 7" $75-100

145. C.1868, Terry Clock Co., Waterbury, Conn, smallest iron timepiece with original dial, hands and bezel. Only fragments remain of rear label, and paint is worn and chipped. Movement recently cleaned & runs; 6" $50-70

146. C.1900, German, Mini "Baroque" Novelty tall case, solid walnut case with cast bronze adornments. This clock took a tumble and the porcelain dial broke into 6 pieces, but none are lost and the spun brass bezel is holding them in place. A careful repairman can glue them in place for a more secure future. Runs. Ht 8.5" $60-90

147. C.1920, Wm. L. Gilbert, Tambour Clock with restorations. The poplar case has been stripped and is now stained a walnut color; the movement has been cleaned [bushings have been staked to resize]. Seems to run OK; strikes on a coiled wire gong. Embossed dial with raised numerals. Ht 10" $50-70

148. C.1883, Ansonia "Blackbird", 30-Hour, as-found. Although this time and strike clock is running, someone stripped off the black enamel door and base, down to the gesso. Note this clock has a great old pendulum with a brass female bust on a faceted star background. Minor plaster repair and some black paint will bring this back. Height 16" $75-100

149. C.1943, Seth Thomas, Black Bakelite Ship’s clock, running. Note this clock was pried off the wall at one time and the rear flange had a 2" hunk broken off. The original piece was glued back on with epoxy, and looks OK. Dial bears serial number 94,000, and "U.S.NAVY". A well made clock, dia=7.7" $90-120

149-a C.1920, German, a Large Leaf and Grape cuckoo {less top trim}. This is a pretty nice 3-weight clock, with two large doors at top, one for a giant cuckoo, and the other a man who shows after the strike to accompany the 2 tune music box. Interestingly, this is a large, cast plate, 3-train movement, the 3rd train designed to power the music cylinder. Needs clean, adjustment and top; width = 17", ht {less weights} = 21" $175-225

149-b C.1920, German, "Box Clock" with restoration. The walnut case was stripped and varnished over and the pendulum is a proper German replacement. Hour and half hour strike on straight steel rod. Original silvered dial has some oxidation; 8-day, runs and strikes; ht 30" $75-125

150. C.1954 , Kaiser "Universe" 400 Day clock. See 400 Day Clock Repair Guide, Appendix, number 34, for full details on what Terwilliger calls "...the best 400-Day clock ever made". This clock came to us in the trunk of a car and the dome was broken. The ivory color enamel has several chips and flakes; the brass dial with some minor corrosion. NO Dome! These shortcomings aside, it is mechanically complete and was running for the photo; height 9.5" $300-400

150-a C.1954, Kaiser "Standard World" 400 Day clock. See Terwilliger’s Silent Auction Catalog #26, Lot #1. The Kaiser Universe line is hard to find, and this model is the rarest, in production for under 3 years. It has a gilt and silver globe instead of the usual blue and gold globe. The suspension unit is intact, and clock is running. The dome is really a laboratory bell jar that happens to fit {not perfect fit + has small edge chip}, otherwise I would have expected this to bring $750. Ht 10.5" $375-475

150-b C. 1954 , Kaiser "Universe" 400 Day clock. See 400 Day Clock Repair Guide, Appendix, number 34, for details. There is some minor discoloration on the base, but this is otherwise a super little clock that is 100% original {even pendulum restrainer nut} with dome intact; 10.5" $450-650

150-c C.1905, German, "Crystal" 400-Day clock in a four glass case. This exact plate is not pictured in the guide. Of significance, the dial is chipped, and it would be worth sacrificing a parts clock for the dial to replace this one. Also the movement has been fully re-bushed, and although it runs, you may want to re-check the depthing. Nice disc pendulum with gallery; beveled glass is good; height 11" $325-425

151. C.1949, German, Kundo, for Forestville Clock Co, "Louvre" model in excellent original condition. This clock came right out of a home in Fall River and looks like the day it was made. 151-a C.1910, German, Jahresuhrenfabrik, 400-Day in a 4-glass crystal regulator case. The case could use some polishing, however, this is a good, sound clock with perfect dial [with floral wreath trim and "Anniversary" trademark], and with good disc pendulum with gallery. Ht 11" $400-500

152. C.1930, German, Jahresuhrenfabrik, Louvre model in very good original condition. {does need suspension spring, block is there}. See 10th Edition, 400-Day Repair Guide, plate 1260. 152-a. C.1953, German, Wurthner-Western, 400-Day clock, chrome, from storage. The lower suspension block is missing, as is the pendulum lock, but the clock is otherwise complete and sound. 152-b C.1912, German, Gustav Becker, 400-Day, Disc pendulum clock, serial number 2126408, in good restorable condition. Still, retains matching serial number pendulum and will clean up fine; height 11.5" $75-125

152-c C.1909, German, Jahresuhrenfabrik, 400 day with disc pendulum. This particular plate is not in the guide, marked: Made in Germany #80451"} This clock is in nice clean condition with old dome, and seems to run. Height 11" $150-200

153. C.1886, Seth Thomas "Athens", as-found, less top trim {simple angle top with button}, and less the quarter molding at top of door, minus a piece of veneer; and with the dial center flaking badly. Also clock has a fancy gong by G.B.Owen, probably from a Gilbert clock. Large ST lyre movement intact; restore or use for parts; height 15.5" $90-120

154. C.1890, New Haven "Fortuna", Black enamel over iron mantel clock. See DeSoto or Margarita models for this embossed brass dial. Running, 10" $100-150

155. Mixed lot: A C.1850, Mini English carved drop dial case that undoubtedly had a fusee movement, NOW with an American, Jerome 8-day time only open spring movement. The mov’t mounted on two pieces of old wood that have been cut to raise the movement to the right height; 5½" dial is modern painted zinc. By the looks of things this was done some time ago; neat little case if you have a mov’t. Ht 14" $175-275

156. C.1925, E. Ingraham & Co., "NILE" Banjo clock, with restorations. The case has been stripped and lightly waxed and needs more finish. The pendulum is from a German box clock of the same period; the top finial is incorrect. Still clock retains original label in decent order, and is worth restoring. If original, these will bring $400. Height 38" $200-250

156-a C.1909, Seth Thomas "Wood lever – 10 Inch" eight day time only in restored condition. The dial has been professionally painted with crackle aging and with accurately painted seconds bit. There are some chips in the veneer, and the case has been stripped and varnished. Overall the clock is in good condition and running. Height 13" $150-200

157. C.1895, New Haven Clock Co., an unusual onyx and bronze clock, similar to the Albatross, also known as the style #1017, Low Tile Model. This clock shows no evidence of ever having tiles, the tan onyx panels in the front, sides and top have always been there; the rear panel is all bronze as in the tile model. Finally, this clock has a damaged dial and does not run. It has a round movement similar to model #750, but with a jeweled lever assembly set inside a large hole in the back-plate. I have seen no other examples of this movement. Ht 12.2" $175-275

158. C.1898, Self Winding Clock Co, New York, Model No. 29, Mahogany, carved front. The front door was allowed to fall open while laying down and there is an old crack along the right side of the door {not so bad}. The clock is otherwise in excellent condition with original dial, hands, movement, pendulum. We are unable to guarantee that it will run, but it is sound and complete; height 21.5" $150-200

159. C.1922, Seth Thomas, "Office No. 14", Thirty Day timepiece, as-found. Although this clock was running on the wall when we took it off, the bezel/glass assembly is completely missing; the original dial, having been exposed to the elements is quite dirty {but not flaking}. The oak case has been scrubbed with steel wool and lightly shellacked {looks OK}, has a couple of small bruises. Has S.T. large #86 movement, and original hardware. Diameter = 18" $175-275

160. C.1850, Terry & Andrews, Bristol, Conn, full size 8-day steeple, with restorations. The case has been stripped and with veneer repairs; the dial is new paper over new tin, pendulum new, hands do not match. BUT it retains a fabulous Fenn tablet with crossed American flags over an eagle with arrows and roses, and the label is decent as well; ht 19" $100-150

161. C.1920, German, Gustav Becker, Blue & White porcelain kitchen clock. The minute hand broke off and is currently taped to the dial. Otherwise this is a good original clock with NO chips nor cracks in the porcelain; lovely Dutch sailing/windmill designs. Movement seems to tick OK. Diameter 10" $50-75

162. C.1900, German, Black Forest dial clock, as-found. The small porcelain dial is loose from the china surround. The china surround has a small scene at the top, with a hunter and rabbit., plus green and red trim. Note there is a crack in the china surround above 11 o’clock and spider cracks in the dial. The weights are old, but from something else. Ticks and tries to strike. Side dust covers are intact. Cute decorator. Dial diameter = 3.7"; height of china surround = 8.5" $100-150

163. C.1890, F. Kroeber, Walnut Mantel clock, with restorations. I am unsure where the old and new leave off on this clock. The movement appears original to the case. The case is refinished, the dial repapered and the finials and top crest are new. Were there cupids in front of the 2 mirrors? The rear and bottom dust covers are new as well. Height 17" The estimate is conservative. $200-250

164. C.1943, Seth Thomas, WWII Style Phenolic resin ship’s timepiece in good condition. The only shortcoming on this clock is that the minute hand was changed and does not exactly match the hour hand {really looks OK, but a purist would object}. Retains original etched and silvered brass dial in perfect condition. This is an uncommonly large model; runs, diam=10.5" $125-175

165. C.1868, Seth Thomas, small Empire column clock, 8-day, T/S/Alarm in rosewood, as-found. This clock has been refinished, the columns poorly touched up, mirror new, label dark, movement held in with machine screws, and with edge chips in veneer. Has good lyre movement, decent dial and alarm intact. Could be improved with tender care. Height 15.7" $125-175

166. C.1870, French, Morbier 2-weight, as-found. Heavy Morez construction with repeat of strike at 2 minutes after the hour; large meter pendulum with gridiron and lyre. The cords need replacing. The clock took a tumble and there are spider web cracks in the porcelain dial. The dial is signed Pellerin et Fils, a’ Charleval. The calendar wheel and hand are absent; the movement, although dirty, is otherwise complete and sound. German weights are later, but seem heavy enough to run the clock. Anchor escapement. Dial = 9", ht = 54" $300-400

167. C.1840, French, Morbier 2-weight, as-found. Heavy Morez construction with repeat of strike at 2 minutes after the hour; large meter pendulum with narrow 5-rod gridiron. This is an alarm model, but you will need to drill the left bracket support for the alarm cord to pass through. The dial has some old repairs to the enamel, but is generally fair, and signed Dunan a’ Moulin. Also this is an earlier crown/verge escapement. Recently restrung, but needs oiling and adjusting. Height 55" $400-500

168. C.1870, Seth Thomas, Mini Cottage, time and alarm in rosewood octagon top case, and in fair condition. Case is refinished and with veneer chips; label dark, minute hand replaced incorrectly, and tablet is clear. Ht 9.25" $100-150

170. C.1890, Wm L. Gilbert "Chromo Time" in very good original condition with original top, finish, dial, label, tablet, and "Trojan" pendulum. There is minor wear and tear, and some small holes in the label, but this is an excellent beginner’s clock; ht 14.5" Condition is everything! $175-275

171. C.1885, Seth Thomas "Greek" in walnut, as-found. This clock has incorrect top finial, and the pendulum bob was used as a hammer and is severely dented. The rest of the clock is in good original condition {super dial w/ patent date} and if you are handy, you’ll end up with a $500 clock; height 24" $275-375

172. C.1895, Parker Clock Co., Meriden {successors to Parker & Whipple}, a good 2-bell alarm clock. The pressed brass base with floral decoration is nickel plated, as is the rest of the case. The robust alarm mechanism is housed in the oval base, while the clock movement is in the cylinder with the dial. Parker’s clocks are noted for both their durability and unique designs. Note the alarm set knob is missing, and dial with wear 11—1. Height 5.3" $250-350

173. C.1910, French, Glass Desk Clock, with 8-day lever movement, the case is heavy frosted crystal in relief, showing two small parrots or love birds among the flowers. The marked Swiss movement is clean and running; gilt dial; lovely quality. Height 6.7" $400-600

174. C.1900, French, 3-Piece, Marble & Ormolu mantel set, as- found. This clock was neglected under the work bench, has wrong pendulum, and no set stem in rear. Most important, the brass cylinder that houses the movement has stress cracks all around and will need a major repair. Timepiece movement ticks OK, and with gilt hands. Tan/red marble with edge abrasion, but generally OK. Side pieces are fine. Ht 14.5" $175-275

174-a C.1910, Sessions Short Drop in solid oak, in generally clean condition. Retains original dial, hands and fancy embossed pendulum. Large 8-day movement could stand cleaning, but is running OK. Decent beginner’s clock; height 26 ¼" $225-325

175. C.1860, E. N. Welch, 30-hour, Gilt Column clock, as-found with original grungy finish, no weights nor lower tablet, BUT with nice gilt columns that could be carefully cleaned off with alcohol and would be the shiniest ones you’ve seen. Original dial with flakes but restorable. Ht 25" $100-150

176. C.1838, Austin Chittenden, Lexington, Mass, with 30 hour groaner movement. The stenciling on both columns and splat is new, plus has been oversprayed with high gloss varathane. Height 35" $100-150

177. C.1841 {dated label}, Daniel Pratt, Jr, Reading, Mass, 30-hour wooden works mahogany column and splat. The door had two interesting loops of mahogany added a very long time ago… maybe to blend in with other furniture. In any case, the original finish has lovely crazing and patina to it, and this modification doesn’t look soo bad on a hundred dollar clock. Decent label with some tears; good dial; height 32" $100-150

178. C.1855, J. C. Brown {Forestville Mfg}, with an overpaste label of S. Cables, 384 Grand, New York. Case retains very good original tablets, center one a black and white street scene, bottom a castle. Good 8-day brass movement, signed. Height 33.5" $275-375

179. C.1845, Forestville Manufacturing, Bristol, Conn. This is a good 8-day OG with original wooden dial, Fenn tablet {now weak} and a great label. Someone hung 30 hour weights on it and when I pick it up, it had a note "clock stops". Has large weight channels that will accept most commercially available weights. This heavy movement is signed Forestville Mfg and will run fine with proper weights. Nice veneer on case, and fabulous dial. Height 29" $250-350

180. C.1829. E. & G. W. Bartholomew, Bristol, Conn, 30 hour WW, stenciled column and splat, with restorations. The columns have been painted over with black paint; the splat has been painted over by an artist tracing the original design {looks garish}; label with tears but fully legible; numerals on the dial have been touched up, but are 90% original; gilt corners look great. Veneer chip on base. Height 33" $100-150

181. C.1918, Seth Thomas "Office No. 5" in oak. The case has been stripped and never properly finished. Movement is clean and running and the dial is original with minor wear at 11. Note a 1.5" piece of flat oak trim is missing at the back of the top right return; very easy to replace. Generally good condition and easy to finish the restoration; height 23" $275-375

182. C.1845, Brewster & Ingraham 8-day steeple, with original cone finials and mahogany veneer intact. The case been refinished and the door lock and escutcheon are missing. Original dial has significant flaking; blue label has been pasted over, but the signature is visible. Both glasses are original, but the previous owner chose to putty them into place. Note nice etched-cut heart tablet. The movement is the early Kirk’s patent model with rack and snail striking {now with steel springs}. Height 19" $175-275

183. C.1860, Seth Thomas, 8-Day Column & Cornice in good condition. There are a couple of bruises to the gilded columns, and a couple of small veneer chips on the base, however this is otherwise a good original clock with original glasses, signed dial, and early Plymouth Hollow label and signed movement with eagle. Replacement weights, and with a C.1870 Seth Thomas dial {looks good} ht 32" $400-500

184. C.1850, Henry Sperry, grain painted cottage clock. The top door hinge needs attention and there are some nicks in the case. Original grain painting and old tablet intact. Original dial plate repainted. No pendulum; fair label with holes. Ht 12" $100-150

185. C.1860, E. N. Welch, 8-day Beehive with alarm. Rosewood case has been refinished and could use a bit more polish. 186. C.1910, E. Ingraham & Co., "GILA", Calendar Gingerbread in excellent condition. Retains original dial, hands, pendulum and rear label. Attractive pressed oak case has been nicely refinished. A very good beginner’s level clock. Ht 23" $200-300

187. C.1875, E. N. Welch, version of Briggs patent rotary pendulum clock with restorations. The dome is a new Corning unit, dial paper recent and pendulum is a modified fishing weight; hands incorrect. Still it runs fine and is an affordable example of this clock; height 9" $225-325

188. C.1890, Ansonia Clock Co., "AUGUSTA" 3-piece mantel set in good condition. Note that one "wing" on lower portion of left candelabra is missing, and the finials on the 2 candelabra do not match even though they are both Ansonia issue. Still, this is a hard to find clock with fabulous cast bronze dial with original gilding intact. Clock runs and strikes; height 16" $400-600

189. C.1910, Waterbury "Polar", Barber Shop model with reverse order dial. This clock has had a lot of work; has a replaced dial pan, maybe 20 years ago and wrong bezel Poplar case has been stained a cherry color. Hands repaired with solder splices. 190. C.1880, Anglo-American Wall Clock with Ingraham movement bearing 1879 patent info. This is a walnut veneered case with attractive satinwood inlay of a floral design; top surround has an interesting scalloped design, and with 8 contrasting inlaid buttons. The original dial is flaking. A bit of dried glue on sides of the trunk indicates there may [?] have been a little carved "ear" on each side, below the dial surround. Ht 32" $250-350

191. C.1868, Seth Thomas, Mini "Octagon Top" rosewood cottage clock, as-found. This clock was covered with 20 years of dust when we uncovered it, and is missing pendulum and leader. Uses type "A" round time only movement that winds at 6. The back was drilled for an electric cord and a light socket put on top; top has been repaired nicely; lacks quarter molding around mirror. What’s left is good; original dial. Ht 9 ¼" $75-100

192. C.1890, Mixed Lot: A good bell strike French movement, now mounted to a bronze memorial stand, from the same period, showing a woman with a man and his dog, the pendulum swinging in front of the couple. 195. C.1878, New Haven "GEM", 8-Day Mantel clock, as-found. The rosewood case has several veneer chips and is dirty, the top glass replaced with excess putty. These points aside, it does retain original finish and label and a very nice original tablet; 15" $90-120

196. C.1925, New Haven "WARING" Time Only spring banjo in fair to good condition. The lower tablet is a cardstock replacement, tailpiece has been broken and re-glued. 197. C.1895, French, Patinated Spelter, Figural clock of a large winged cherub. There is something missing from his hands, possibly a bow, and inspection shows where it was attached. A French bell strike movement is mounted in the urn to the right, surmounted by an acanthus wreath and a torch. Runs. A decorator; height 12" $175-225

Looks clean and sound, but cannot guarantee it will run; height 7½" $40-60

200. Mixed lot: This is C.1850 stenciled tin case with MOP, now with a small German fit-up movement, and repainted dial. But the best part is that the case was designed with a "rocking horse" in the arch, beating in sync with the pendulum swinging in the orifice below. A handy clockmaker might reinstall an American movement and have an interesting clock indeed. Glass and couple bits of MOP are missing; height 28". Our estimate is a guess: $150-300

201. C.1900, mixed lot, German open well oak case with a married movement, extra holes in the back board and the dial soldered on to the dial feet improperly. Hands do not match; pendulum top hook missing; no top trim to case. The case was stored in an attic and the glue joints have failed. Still, this clock has a decorative look and a patient workman could make a nice clock, 8-day movement. Height 24" $175-275

202. C.1910, mixed lot, a German box style case with 7 panes of beveled & leaded glass {one pane cracked}, now with another 2-weight movement, less gongs, and needing work. This is an interesting movement in that it is set up for "ding-dong", 2-note strike, but one hammer is missing. Minute hand is missing long half, pulleys new, suspension spring incorrect. Still, dial is good and this clock will run again with work. Height 37" $225-325

203. C.1880, mixed lot, Vienna Regulator, 1-weight, as-found. Note the movement is not original to the case. Grid iron trim was added to pendulum, speeding up pendulum, needs to be removed so clock will keep time….good part for another clock. Carved top is from an Austrian night stand, better than nothing. Pulley is new. Case has some old worm holes that have been filled. Needs attention; height 43" $250-350

204. C.1875, Austrian, 1-Wt Regulator, as-found, the case less moldings top and bottom, glass cracked, pendulum and weight with small dents. 212. C.1948, Lux Annular Dial, or "Tape" Clock in very good condition. Many times these are rusty and used to death, but this one retains original black paint [they came in several colors], has a good dial, and even seems to run OK. Diameter = 4.8" $20-30

214. C.1924, Seth Thomas "Plymouth" Pillar & Scroll in good original condition. The only shortcoming here is the center finial, which is perhaps older than the clock and a bit too large; compare to lot 55 to see proper finial. However, this clock is otherwise original, with proper tablet of Connecticut village; 8-day, time and strike on gong; minor nicks, but quite clean; ht 25" $225-325

215. C.1920, New Haven "Willard" banjo, 30-day as-found. Someone spent $75 for a lovely hand painted tablet of Mt. Vernon, when a stenciled copy would have been OK. The clock is otherwise in good original condition; rear label intact. These 30 day models are quite desirable. Height 41.5" $375-475

220. C.1925, New Haven Winsome, Westminster

chime banjo clock. This clock came from storage and is missing its short cylindrical pendulum; if you are handy you can make this, but it is necessary for the swinging pendulum to clear the 4 steel bands that descend through the case to raise the chime hammers. 226-a C.1918 [dated on rear] Seth Thomas, Octagon short drop in walnut. This clock was tortured and resurrected somewhat. Someone peeled off the loose stuff, stained it in and coated it with varnish; veneer on the sides and bottom is fine Still, retains original dial, movement and bezel and runs fine. Height 23½" $150-200

227. C.1975, Korean Wall Clock, a copy of New Haven "Grecian" wall clock. This was imported by a California company when the Koreans were trying lots of different case styles. It cost $100 then and I imagine it will bring about the same now. This is new, old stock, never retailed; ht 51" $100-150

232. C.1910, New Haven, Poplar Cased tambour, with restorations. The dial and bezel are new; pendulum replaced; case was stripped and brushed with spar varnish [drips and all] Although it runs OK, I would classify it as a decorator, or good for the vacation cottage. Height 9" $30-50

235. C.1900, German, Hamburg-American Clock Co., Mini crystal regulator, as-found. Note the 8-day movement is complete between the plates, but the crutch came off the verge, so it just ticks rapidly. No pendulum and brass case with oxidation – will need polishing. Fancy porcelain dial with hairlines. Beveled glass is good. Worth restoring. Height 8" $125-175

236. C.1850, Henry C. Smith, Plymouth, Conn, OG, as-found, less dial, hands, weights and pend and with only a partial label. Some veneer chips along border of case. Does have a good original Fenn tablet, and original wavy top glass with fish eyes. Height 25" $75-100

237. C.1875, New Haven Clock Co., 8-Day Cottage, a once elegant shelf clock, now with the veneer all loose. Retains original dial, hands, pend and good label for someone handy with veneer. Height 13" $75-100

238. C.1920, Seth Thomas, "No. 2 Tambour" mahogany cased shelf clock, as found. One of the glue blocks inside is pulling loose and will need gluing. Has ST-120 premium round movement; orig hands, pend, gong. Porcelain dial has no chips. Case is refinished and with some bruises. Runs. Height 7" $100-150

239. C.1875, E. N. Welch, 8-Day Beehive, as-found. This clock has had a rough life, but the case is decent and the rest worth restoring. The label is only about 1/3 there, minute hand replaced with a home-made job, and the tablet is a hand painted New Hampshire snow scene. Are you up to the task? Height 20" $90-120

240. C.1855, Case only, Full Size Steeple, with the full label of Pomeroy & Parker, original dial and a fabulous tablet of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Case retains veneer and original finish; worth finding a movement for. Finials don’t match; ht 20" $40-60

240-a. C.1860, Case Only, English, Mahogany case with fancy carving under the dial. This is for a single fusee timepiece movement. The 9 inch dial is signed Cattaneo & Son, Stockton. The sides of the case with typical hinged inspection doors. And the bezel-dial assembly held to the case with pegs; bezel with a dry split at 9 o’clock. Ht 16" $75-125

240-b. C.1875, Case Only, Welch, Spring & Co, "Patti", as-found, less one finial, a strip of veneer and small molding. Retains decent label, with tears, and original tablet and flocked back in good condition. All the turned buttons are present; ht 19" $100-200

241. Mixed lot: An incomplete 30 hour cottage, missing verge and hands and the dial fully flaked, with unusual locomotive tablet {with some flaking}, total height 11", and a German cast brass novelty timepiece, missing its threaded winding stem, with a faded cello dial and brass hands, mov’t ticks, ht 4" One bid for all $60-90

242. C.1900, French Porcelain Clock, Pink, needs work. The pink case with white and purple flowers is attractive, except the right side has an old 3-inch crack. The 8-day, rack striking, lever movement will tick when you put pressure on the hands, but has a roller jewel problem that only a professional should tackle [or replace entire platform]. Perfect porcelain dial with gilt center & original hands. Height 11.5" $90-120

243. C.1870, New Haven Clock Co., Beehive in poor to fair condition. This 30-hour clock is dirty, and the tablet of Daniel Webster’s Mansion was badly flaked and was poorly touched up. The veneer on the top bezel is loose and a piece missing. Rest of veneer is only fair with failing repairs. Height 19" $90-120
