001. C. 1950, German, Black Forest Cuckoo Clock, in good original condition. The case has an interesting motif, a fox below the dial and a large owl on the bird crest. In addition there are 9 leaves and 3 clumps of grapes. Although it appears to have been hanging idle for many years, it still runs and cuckoos pleasantly. A little clock oil on the movement pivots is suggested. Width =12 ", ht 19" $50--$80 002. Mixed lot, but serviceable. C.1890, good Round French movement complete, now in a C.1920 well made butternut case. The fellow who sent this related that the original marble case had gotten broken and his father had made the case in his cabinet shop, following the original design. This particular clock is identical to one on display at the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol, and with the bonus that this one has most of its rear label [a Jerome instruction label titled "ALARMS"]. The original finish is a bit worn, but you can still make out the hot gold foil that was impressed around the inner door frame. The tablet and dial are extra nice. Both movements complete and sound. The flask has a clock face that reads "Time to Take a Drink" The back of the flask has the letters "U.S." cast in the glass. The dial under the glass is very nice however the glass covering the dial has a spider crack {no pieces are missing}. An unusual combination of horological interest and human need. Ht. 5" $75--$150 009d. C.1920, German, G. Berger, 30-hour time/strike cuckoo clock. This 5-leaf and single bird clock is in good condition with original top and pendulum. Overall a neat design that we have not seen before. Ht. 20" $200--$300 010. C.1890, European, Glass Dial Novelty clock, as-found. This is a great looking clock, but UPS managed to break the glass dial and wouldn't pay the claim. Now the pieces of the dial are all aligned in place, and if you are gentle with it, the dial will last a lifetime; just it will not take a jogging around. The wooden case with brass trim is very attractive. Decent 8-day time only movement. Ht 13.5" $150--$250 011. Ht. 10.25" $200--$300 015e. C.1914, German, Gustav Becker, Westminster chime bracket clock, mahogany with silvered dial and in very good original condition. The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is a small dent in the right side of the mahogany case and a small bubble in the veneer. The movement has Becker's Gold Medal medallion trademark, and is serial number 2,889,741, which according to C. Terwilliger dates to 1914, while Kochmann, suggests 1928. I believe that Terwilliger is correct, as he has the numbers for each year beginning in 1900. For those unfamiliar with this portion of the Ansonia line, Ansonia owned a rubber company and for around 5 years offered these molded hard rubber versions of their popular black mantle clocks. They are light and durable and much more practical than the iron and marble clocks they competed against, but were discontinued for lack of sales. They are uncommon, and yet we offer a half dozen in this week end's sale. Note also that they are listed in Lys's Ansonia book under "Mantel Clocks enameled Iron cases, pages 307-308. C.1870, Jerome & Co., [New Haven] , 30-Hour rosewood cottage clock with guttu purcha or thermo-plastic inserts in the door. This is an especially nice example with a molded cornice top, and with dark rosewood veneer on the door and main case. The door itself uses the typical gutta purcha inserts. We have not seen this model before, but Mr. Semegran was very good at finding unusual clocks. Ht 15.5" $175--$275 093. C.1886, Ansonia Plush Decorations, in good condition, with the velour renewed and the corner trim repainted. This pair of scenes do not appear in the Ansonia catalogs we have available, however, there are several years for which we have neither a main catalog nor supplement, and these are most definitely of Ansonia origin. Ht 26" $300--$500 094. C.1905, Ansonia Clock Co., CYGNET, gilt metal mantel clock in very good original condition, as-found from storage. There are no apparent breaks in the metal and the porcelain dial is good. Ht 12.75" $200--$300 095. C.1900, Ansonia Clock Co., BLOSSOM, in good, as-found condition. C.1880, New Haven, NEVA, walnut parlor clock in good restored condition. The case has been attractively refinished. The dial was papered over at the time and now has a nice antique look to it. With original tablet and alarm mechanism. This was a very popular New Haven model. For reference, see Ly's New Haven book {1997}, page 324, figure 1307. This clock has an old 2-barrel pendulum. $175--$275 098. C.1900, Ansonia Clock Co., Top Decoration, the Boar Hunter, in excellent restored condition. This statue has been re-bronzed by Charles Carrick and is ready for immediate use. Ht 11.5" $400--$600 098a. C.1850, Elisha Manross, Bristol, Conn an unusual oversize false hollow column, 8-day. Mahogany columns and cornice style case. A few veneer chips. Good dial and label. This Manross movement has the plate cut out riveted to the base of the movement. Because the weights drop in a narrow channel beside the movement, they need to be quite narrow. The clock is currently using 2 lead banjo weights, but the originals would have been cast iron. This very clock is pictured in Tran Duy Lu's American Clocks, Vol 3, page 102, figure 253. Note the original mirror got broken, and the pieces are taped in place for the foto. Ht 33.25" $500--$700 098b. C.1860, American Clock Co., 8-Day Iron front, in excellent original condition, with original case paint and decorations. This clock is an incredible expression of Victorian exuberance. The case is molded with cranes, flowers, bull rushes, water plants and so on, all highlighted in appropriate colors. The central scene , a ruin with ships and mountains is inlaid with MOP. The lower bezel needs a flat glass {curved one looks ok}. Case patent W. Stull, Nov 1860. Original hands, good label; a collectors dream. Ht 18" $400--$600 098c. C.1860, Terhune & Edwards, 48 Courtlandt St, New York, 8-day time and strike iron front. This is a bold and beautiful clock; the central scene enhanced with a surrounding inlay of MOP chips. Original dial; two old hands look OK, but do not match; top glass replaced at some time and is loose now {one brass tab is taped to top of case}. The case has a maroon color which appears to be original, and the movement box is painted the same color. Ht 20" $400--$600 098d. C.1858, Levi Frank, 55 Jones St, New York, a small iron front with original paint. Someone washed the shellac off the paint with the result that it looks a bit bright, however a magnifying glass shows that the paint is crazed nicely and is not re-done. Has the original dial and bezel; some touch up to dial paint around 3 o'clock. [and is still flaking in the area]; we would leave it alone. The case has multicolor grape vines and grapes molded into the edges of the case. Central scene shows a castle and a ship. Using a Connecticut 30 hour movement. Ht 17" $275--$375 098e. C.1860, New Haven Clock Co., STEEPLE, clock, 8-day, with Turner's patent internal alarm, sounding on a large iron bell that is 6" in diameter. The case is well figured mahogany with only minor losses; the transfer decorated lower glass of a lake scene. Note that this clock has winding arbors just like a regular movement, but you are winding time and alarm, rather than strike; the plates of the normal movement have been extended to accommodate this unusual train. This movement occurs in beehives every now and again, but we have not seen it in a steeple until this one. With an excellent label; original dial with blemish at 9. Ht 20" $400--$600 099. C.1890, Boston Clock Co., 8-day time/strike, tandem wind, marble mantel clock. The case is pretty nice, but with small chips along the bottom edge of the base and a chip on the top right corner. Note the onyx inlays and tu-tone silver and gold incising are still in good shape. The ivory colored porcelain dial is perfect. The beveled door glass is also fine but it does have a couple of scratches. The tandem wind balance wheel movement is signed; note fancy balance cock visible through orifice in the dial. A good looking clock. Ht. 9" $300--$400 099a. C.1855, Henry Sperry & Co., 18 Maiden Lane, NY, cottage timepiece in very good original condition, with a nice grain painted case and with a perfect sponged orange and black reverse painted glass with gold borders. Original dial with full signature, a bit faint: HENRY SPERRY & CO, NEW YORK. A nice example of a mid 19th century cottage clock {has 'upside down' movement}. Ht 11" $250--$350 099b. C.1855, Henry Sperry & Co., 18 Maiden Lane, NY, cottage timepiece in very good original condition, with good mahogany veneer on the case front {stained on sides as was the style}. Hands don't match but look OK. {Primitive tablet with cottage and tree}. Has a home made pendulum that works fine. Also with upside down movement. Ht 12" $250--$350 099c. C.1860, Wm. L. Gilbert, Small cottage clock with alarm movement by S. B. Terry. This clock would have been made after Terry went bankrupt in 1859, and in 1860 Gilbert persuaded him to come to Winsted and be in charge of movements. You may see this same movement pictured in Palmer's Treasury of American Clocks, page 130, also in a Gilbert clock. The original wooden dial is intact, with some careful & tasteful strengthening of the numerals. Retains fabulous stenciled patriotic tablet with Union shield, Spread wing eagle and the motto E. Pluribus Unum. Ht 11.25" $300--$500 099d. C.1880, E. Ingraham & Co., ARGAND, 8-Day time and strike with alarm, and in excellent original condition. When you first look at this clock, it looks German, with a grained gesso door and gilt trim all around. But it is 100% American, and another example of how European and American companies copied each other in attempts to stay competitive. Ht 13" $250--$300 099e. C.1848, Terry & Andrewes, Stenciled, painted and MOP inlaid wooded cased, 8-day shelf clock in very good original condition. Although the case is a bit dirty and there are a couple pieces of missing MOP, it is nonetheless in remarkable condition for its age. Has nice blue and solver reverse decorated upper and lower glasses, a good blue label, and early lyre movement, now with steel springs. Ht 15.25" $400--$600 099f. C.1870, Jerome & Co., {New Haven}, 30 Hour time & strike mini steeple, tastefully refinished some time ago {the veneer is really outstanding}. Has a good transfer tablet with a cluster of leaves in attractive colors [with a couple of flakes]. Retains a very clean, bright and legible label, mounted to the rear of the tablet. The BAD part is the dial, which is flaking and will need professional attention. With the dial restored, this will be a nice little clock. $150--$200 100. C.1891, William L. Gilbert Clock Co., "Occidental", 8-day time/strike walnut mantel clock, with some restoration. The walnut mirror side case is in very nice condition with a nice old finish. C.1908, German, Junghans, ELEPHANT swing clock in very good original condition. This item is well above average, with original patina on the elephant and base. The clock arm itself is also nice, with perfect porcelain dial, with Junghans Germany fired into the porcelain at the bottom of the dial. Ht 11.25" $900--$1,200 101c. C.1900. Seth Thomas Clock Co. "Office No. 5", 8-day wall timepiece. This case of this clock has its original finish and is in fine condition. The 12" diameter dial has been professionally repainted and is a nice job. The hands and pendulum are original. A very nice example. Ht. 24" $400--$600 102. C.1840, English Tall Clock, 30-Hour, Painted dial, in generally good condition. Note that although the movement may be original to the case, the risers have been cut about an inch and an extra 1" seat board added to raise the movement in the case. You will want to make a single and substantial seatboard for long term use. Otherwise the movement is clean and running, the colorful painted dial signed Barraclough, Haworth, and with calendar gear intact, but missing actuation pin. Note flake on dial inside seconds ring {at dial foot}. Hands are original. With attractive floral corners and a farm with cows + 2 people in the arch. [quite pastoral]. Ht 91" $1,500--$2,000 103. C.1835, Massachusetts, 8-day banjo timepiece, unsigned. This timepiece has a fair amount of restoration. The finial and chimney are replacements. The movement looks to be original to the case and is mounted with two side tabs that are part of the backplate. Lots of American look for the money. Ht. 33.50" $600--$800 104. C.1915, French for Tiffany & Co., NY, mahogany cased tambour clock in generally good condition, exceptions noted. The crystal got broken at some time and then the hinge pin got lost {has a piece of wire holding bezel}. The fancy porcelain dial is damaged at the F/S adjuster above 12, and the right front pad foot has a corner missing. The hands are original and the well made gong strike movement retains original numbered pendulum; movement is signed Tiffany on the rear plate, and is running fine. Potential here. Ht 11" $200--$300 104a. C.1875, French, Japy Freres, Small Patinated spelter cartel clock. This is a cute clock depicting 2 children sleeping at top and a winged angel at the bottom. It was later converted to pendulum operation and the brass dial with cherub & crown spandrels added. The dial is signed Andrew Watson. It has been in this pine case for a long time. C.1885, French, Guilmet, Mystery clock, as found. This is a running clock, but with some restorations. As we know the statue mounts on a platform and turns slightly from side to side when running. That platform and the top pivot mount have been newly copied from originals. Mike liked seeing the action of the works without the dial, so made a clear dial {we have the black slate dial with gilt numerals and that is included}. Finally, the pendulum itself is a reproduction. See also lot 352. Ht 24.5" $2,000--$2,500 107. The steel work in the movement has a tiny amount of surface rust that can easily be cleaned off. There is a little rust on the steelwork of the pendulum that needs attention. The lacquer that protected the brass work has started to peel and will need attention. Retains original 2 piece base with worn velvet, and one of the nicest set of gilt hands we have seen on this model. Ht. 9.5" $150--$250 167. C.1954, German, J. Kaiser, 400-Day clock, World model, with terrestrial globe pendulum and Halifax moon revolving in the arch of the dial. This clock is complete with bottom dust cover, feet and original dome. The paint on the moon has some scratches, but the clock is otherwise quite good. Note this model uses a compound pendulum, the globe showing above the base, and a rod extending below Antarctica that carries the lead wafers that make up the rest of the pendulum. Overall very good condition. Ht 11" $400--$500 168. C.1890, Ansonia GRANDFATHER, one Day, time and calendar, with restorations. The outer hand has been re-gilded. C.1883, Ansonia clock Co., DAUNTLESS, one Day, time and alarm mantle clock. This has to be one of the fanciest alarm clocks we've seen in a long while, with an Empire/French style case of cat metal with a bronze finish, and with the normal alarm movement mounted from the roof and pillars, and with the added novelty of striking on the bell below, mounted to a finial. One minor defect is the tail to cupids arrow is absent; has been gone a long time. Ht 16" $200--$300 171. C.1883, Ansonia clock Co., LITTLE DORRIT, one Day, time and alarm mantle clock, in the French style. Note similarities to the Dauntless model in lot 170. There is a little rust on the iron, top and bottom, but the dial is original and it is in overall good condition. Ht 12" $125--$225 172. C.1900, Wm. L. Gilbert, TUSCAN, mantel regulator, in dirty, as-found condition. Note the top finial has its base broken {can be repaired}, and the rear dust cover is now a round piece of wood {should be brass}. Otherwise this is a restorable clock that is not easy to find. Ht 19" $500--$700 173. C.1910, Ansonia Clock Co., CRYSTAL model 4-glass in good original condition, with striking lever movement {original also} signed Ansonia. C.1889, Parker & Whipple, Model No. 25, mini cast case boudoir clock. The dial is a bit faded and the minute hand has been replaced. Still it is complete and sound and a good example of this hard to find miniature. Ht 6" $175--$275 176. C.1890, Parker & Whipple, Unusual suspended timepiece {Model No. 11}. The original foto of this clock lost it's file type moniker and could not be recovered, so we have substituted a Parker catalog cut to show the model. Our clock frame is slightly bent from an old fall and the clock hangs a bit crooked from the chain. I am being a bit critical here, as it is not so bad. Ht 9" $175--$275 177. C.1883, Ansonia Clock Co., OFFICE INK, as-found, the base cracked and soldered once and failed again. These models are time and calendar; the white spot on the dial around 2 is actually the remains of a sticker on the glass. Covers to the ink wells are missing. Our estimate leaves room for a talented workman to improve the value of the clock. Ht to top of clock = 8"; total ht = 9" $75--$125 178. C.1890, Ansonia {lot of 4 items}, 3 Bee clock tins {lithographed}, one each pink, red & yellow, and one small 8-day Ansonia timepiece {same diameter as bee case, but is deeper for 8-day spring, and porcelain dial gives "8-day" notation}. $75--$125 179. C.1885, Parker & Whipple, Meriden Ct, another cute novelty with pendulum showing in the glass below the dial. Note this is a 2-piece item, and that the cast base is a stand for the main clock. C.1900. Ansonia, PHOTO, made to house a ladies favorite Victorian photograph. At first we thought this was meant for a mirror, but in searching Ly's Ansonia book, page 387, figure 1497, we found it was meant for a photograph. This example is in very good condition with old re-paint. Ht 12.5" $400--$600 191. The movement is die stamped by the maker. The verge needs repair as the two jeweled pallets have broken off. One of the pallets is taped to the glass {replacements are available}. Note Bonn trademark now absent. Attractive sky blue color with dark pink and yellow flowers. Would be a $1000 clock if perfect. Ht. 13.5" $300--$500 197. C.1950, Home made mahogany tall case {Mini}, with a C.1925 New Haven back wind novelty movement. This clock stood on a watchmaker's bench at the American Clock & Watch Museum at Bristol, where it was on loan from 1974 to present. The fellow who made the case had some skill and the lines are quite pleasant. Ht 17" $100--$200 198. C.1907, New Haven "MINHO", mission oak miniature tall clock in good original condition with label on rear [some tears on label and difficult to read]. Interestingly, at a price of $5.35, this clock cost more than a kitchen clock when new. Uses a one-day open spring movement, wound from the rear. Ht 12" $100--$150 199. C.1926, Ansonia Clock Co., GRAVITY clock in generally good condition. One of the white metal posts is distressed and has a couple of teeth missing. However, the movement is in good condition and is running briskly; original hands intact. Part of the bronze paint is scraped away on the base. The mahogany veneered case is in unrestored condition with some minor veneer loss. The clock may have come from an attic, as the finish is alligatored {some folks like them this way}. Both glasses are original, but the lower glass of St. Luke's Church, Hudson St, NY, is badly flaked. The original dial pan looks to have been repainted. The hands are original. The movement is stamped by the maker. The label is very dark but readable. Ht. 26.25" $75--$150 202. C.1860, N. Muller, New York, 8-day time/strike shelf clock. This is a very nice Muller case clock marked No. 59 that has been cleaned and the finish restored. The brass movement is not signed, but the clock could have been marketed by the American Clock Co. The dial pan appears to be original but the dial paper and hands are new, and the outer bezel is properly replaced. An attractive rendition of 2 birds in a garden. Ht. 21" $250--$350 203. C.1937, Barr Mfg. Co., electric timepiece. Barr Mfg Co. started making these timepieces in 1937 after Poole Mfg. Co. stopped production. These models are usually found using batteries, but this one runs on house current. Because of the professional nature of the 110v wiring and conversion {not to mention the age and deterioration of the wiring}, we are inclined to believe this was a "last gasp" effort on Barr's part to merchandise their electric clock. The dial is excellent and the hands and pendulum are original. We have based our estimate on it being correct. Ht. 9" $200--$250 204. C.1880, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "10 Inch Lever", in good condition, with restorations. The mahogany veneer case was refinished maybe 50 years ago and has a nice mellow color. There are some small chips and cracks in the veneer. The original dial was painted, and this one has a brown paper over-paste, including the seconds bit with 1878 patent info. This clock uses a double spring 8-day lever movement. The BEST part of this clock is the superb rear label that is worthy of framing. It is complete with Hotckiss tower clock info, and an over-stamp with case patent info dated April 16, 1878. Ht 13" $200--$300 205. C.1905, Ansonia {Lot of 3} Mini Porcelain 1-day clocks in good condition: a> SPARROW, pink on white with applied flowers {about half flowers broken away, but looks OK}, 5"; b> THRUSH, small brownish flowers on white background with gold highlights, dial a bit dark, 5", and c> Unknown Ansonia, blue and gold highlights with pink & yellow flowers in very good condition, ht 6". One bid for all. $150--$250 206. C.1905, New Haven Clock Co., Mini Delft tall clock with several chips {see white areas along left front edge}. C.1900, Ansonia Clock Co., New York. 8-day "Triumph" model solid mahogany mantel clock with gong striking. This example is missing one of its cherubs, but the remaining one is original. However, this clock has many plusses including the original dial, hands, reflecting mirrors, label on back, and finials. The original pendulum and applied case decorations have been painted gold. The door has a new glass with no decoration. Ht. 24" $450--$650 210. C.1900, French, an Original Mignon Statue, same as the American statue [after all we copied it], except for a slight variation in the base. If you have an Indiana base, this could do for a statue. Ht 16" $200--$300 211. C.1905, Jennings Brothers, OWL INK, in overall good condition. Note the dial has a horizontal crack, no second hand and movement loose in case. The figure of the owl is excellent in its detail; hinge is intact and it has a great look; lift head to expose well; glass liner for well is absent. Note this case is virtually identical to Ansonia "NOVELTY No. 15", PICTURED IN Ly's book, items 2008+2009. Ht 6" $200--$300 212. C.1904, {lot of 3} Ansonia CARRIAGE EXTRA, 1-day, time, strike & alarms. 2 are complete and sound, 1 not running, also missing 2 hands. Ht with handles up, 7.5" One bid for all. $175--$275 213. C.1900, French, Spelter Statue MIGNON, made into a lamp a little later. The circuit is sound at this time, but re-wiring is suggested. A competent electrician should inspect all lamps in this sale. Ht 27" $100--$200 214. C.1905, Ansonia, Boar Hunter, clock top garniture in good original condition and complete with lance in the hunter's arm. The fact that the next 2 lots are also the same top should not make you think these are common, it's just that Mr. Semegran believed in buying all he could find. Ht 12" $400--$600 215. C.1905, Ansonia, Boar Hunter, clock top garniture, less lance, and with 2 holes drilled into the front of the base {looks like it had a name plaque at one time}. The statue is painted a dark red-bronze color. Ht 12" $250--$350 216. C.1905, Ansonia, Boar Hunter, clock top garniture, less lance, and with an old coat of gold paint. The statue is in good condition, with no breaks nor repairs. The lance is an easy enough item to make from a piece of welding rod and a shaped lead tip. Ht 12" $300--$500 217. C.1920, German, Hamburg-American Clock Co, 8-day time/strike regulator wall clock. The refinished hardwood case is in very nice condition with original top and finials. The paper dial is pretty nice with a little loss to the finish around 6 o'clock. The hands are original. Seems to run and strike OK. Above average for what turns up today. Ht. 27.5" $200--$250 218. C.1935, Lux Clock Mfg Co., Waterbury, Ct, animated alarm clock, "Monkey & Organ Grinder", in fair to good condition. Note the bottom of the case has been damp and has some rust. C.1890, Parker & Whipple, Meriden, Ct, Hotchkiss patent 30 hour timepiece in a cast white metal case with Egyptian motif. Note most of the bronze finish is now worn off the case; original paper dial is worn and discolored. Movement is a bit loose in case and needs a better retention screw. Movement is complete and sound, however is dirty. Note it does retain the original winding and setting key [impossible to come by when lost]. Ht with handle up 4.75" $150--$200 220. C.1930, Lux Clock Co., Waterbury, Conn, "Sunflower", 30 hour novelty pendulette in fair condition. This clock has had some distress and several of the petals are bent, and paint chipped off. The dial is dirty but fairly well preserved. The movement is complete and sound and still ticking. The pendulum has been replaced by a U. S. Army button with an embossed eagle. These are unusual and worth $400 if in nice condition. Diameter = 4" $125--$175 221. C.1882, Yale Clock Co., New Haven, Conn, "Carriage Clock", 8-day in generally good condition. It is interesting that Yale chose to call this a carriage clock when it has a pendulum movement. Note the movement is complete and sound, but the large spring is fully wound and bound up, and the clock will need disassembly and cleaning before it will run. {It does tick if you apply pressure via the set stem}. The brass case is stamped from rolled brass. The paper dial and hands are original. Ht 6" $150--$200 222. C.1892 {dated case} Seth Thomas Adamantine, with restorations. This is a medium tan case, and the cello veneer is in good condition. The dial pan and bezel are from another make clock, and the gong has been moved to a new location in the bottom of the case. C.1905, Waterbury Clock Co., "SPECK", brass cased carriage timepiece miniature in generally good condition. If one of the case screws had not been missing, we would have classified this as 'excellent', as the beveled glass, porcelain dial and hands are all original and in good shape. Movement is complete and sound. Ht 3" $90--$120 225a. C.1900, French, Brass Cased Carriage timepiece, as-found with a crack across the center of the dial, a minute hand too long, and the platform is a new Swiss replacement. Despite these deficiencies the clock seems to run OK, and has some potential. Ht 5.75" $100--$200 225b. C.1910, French, Brass Cased Carriage timepiece, for Wm Wise & Son, Brooklyn {on dial}, and in generally good, as-found condition. This clock is an "Obis" case, with the cheapest stamped top available at the time. It has a cylinder platform that is dirty, and although the staff appears to be intact, is not running. The dial has some hairlines. The glasses are good. Ht 5.75" $100--$200 225c. C.1900, French, Brass Cased Carriage clock, as-found, less hands and rear door. This is a quarter striking model {petite sonnerie}, that gives ding-dong quarters, then on the hour strikes, and on pressing the repeat button, gives the hour, followed by the quarter. This is a presentation piece, the top engraved: "dominus vobiscum, Henry Chapin". The porcelain dial is good and the beveled glasses are fine. Retains original platform. For someone who specializes in carriages, this is quite restorable. Ht 7" $450--$650 226. C.1955, Allied Mfg. Co., Seattle, "KIT KAT" Clock, 110v in good running order. A couple of Chinese companies have reproduced this clock, however the new ones will NOT run. This one retains its original cord in good condition and is running fine. Note both eyes and tail move back & forth. Ht, including tail = 15" $40--$60 227. C.1880, F. Kroeber Clock Co., "Hungaria", 8-day time/strike iron mantel clock, lacking drop from lions mouth on right side. The case is pretty good with some paint loss on the edges of the base and on the top. The incised work on the case has been filled in with gold paint. The dial is a little dark from age. Typical of Kroeber's mantle movements, the rear plate is embossed with fancy scrollwork. There is a clean label on the bottom of the case. Ht. 10" $125--$225 228. C.1880, Japy Freres, 8-day time/strike marble mantel clock. The case is in pretty good condition with a small chip on the bottom right corner and a repair to the upper left corner. Ht. 9.5" $125--$225 229. C.1910, Seth Thomas Clock Co., "Ship's Bell", 30-hour outside bell ships strike clock, as-found. This clock is in generally good condition with the case overpainted with gold paint; it will need stripping and polishing of the brass case. The silvered dial has turned rather dark. The hands are original. Retains about third label on rear, plus newsprint and green paint from a former strip job. These are worth $350 when original and clean. Has potential. Ticks and strikes. Ht. 10.5" $150--$200 230. C.1900, English, Sestrel, Ship's Compass, plus 2 marine lights, all in good as-found condition. The compass is mounted in a set of gimbals, set in a binnacle and has a handle to carry it from place to place or it can be screwed to a base. The binnacle and compass both bear the same patent information: Patt.183/HB. There is also a set of green and red navigation lights, brass cases with heavy molded glass lenses. The lights have no electrical components inside. An interesting marine lot. Ht. 9" $150--$250 231. C.1985, Chelsea Clock Co., "Boston", 8-day time/strike ship's bell clock. This was part of the Boston series of clocks that were produced by Chelsea with lower cost German movements. The heavy brass case is good condition with wear to the lacquer finish. The silvered brass dial is very nice with some minor scratches near the winding arbors. The hands are original. Balance staff is intact and clock is running. Ht. 5.50" $200--$300 232. C.1890, French, 8-day time/strike cartel clock. The carved oak case has been over-painted and "antiqued" by someone to match a set of furniture. It is very attractive, but it didn't start out life that way. The numerals are in fine condition with no breaks in the porcelain. 8-day movement is sound and strikes on a gong. Enjoy as is or refinish to golden oak. Ht. 21.5" $200--$250 233. C.1890, French, 8-day time/strike baker's clock. The case has been refinished. Rather than the usual black lacquer over gesso frame we usually see, this one is solid walnut. The walnut dial surround has been refinished as well. The original reverse painted glass dial may have been damaged, as this one is a paper photocopy glued behind a clear glass {actually looks fine and is only detectable on the closest of inspection}. The hands are original, and the 8-day striking movement is complete and sound. Ht. 24" $200--$300 234. C.1900, Ansonia, Pair of Garniture Statues, No. 1101, The Italians, in good restored condition. Note the iron bases got lost, and they now have newly turned wooden bases, with faux red marble finish {not badly done}. The are no breaks nor repairs to the statues; they have been repainted. Ht 13" $200--$300 235. C.1895, Ansonia BRAZILIAN, black marble mantel clock in generally good condition. Note the rear cover and feet are missing. Retains great pierced brass dial with open escapement. Ht 11.5" $200--$250 236. C.1890, French "Lulli", single figure garniture statue in very good original condition. Note the Ansonia figure "Melody" is a direct copy of this figure. Since we can assume the Parisians did not have road reps in Brooklyn buying statues to take to France, we must conclude it was the other way around. In any case, this is a nice statue. Ht 20" $150--$250 237. C.1885, French, Guilmet, Movement for standard mystery clock. Note the vertical carriage which supports the statue is not included, only the main movement with "mystery crank" escapement. Signed "GLT". It is now mounted in a home-made mahogany case. You can make just about everything else, but without this, you could never have a mystery clock. Dia = 4" $500--$750 238. C.1890, German, Easel Clock, a silvered brass tray with curled up corners, and with applied tropical bugs in 3 dimensions. Has an 8-day pendulette movement, and xlnt dial with individual chevron numerals. Note similarity to New Haven 'No. 1004, Extra' Ht 11" $150--$200 239. C.1901, Ansonia, CORRECT TIME, Hanging Window clock in good condition. This is the 10" dial model and there is no chain for hanging, but that is easily replaced with pressed link chain from a hardware store. See drawing in Ly's Ansonia book, page 224, figure 772. The original gilding and numerals on the dial is not perfect, but is in good condition. Note minute hand has been changed. Ht 10" $150--$200 240. C.1880, Ansonia, TRANSPARENT WINDOW CLOCK, in very good condition. The cord to hang this heavy plate glass dial has been replaced; otherwise it appears original. This is the largest window clock that Ansonia made. Ht 20" $350--$450 241. C.1910, German, Unknown Junghans Swinger. Note the center standard {looks like lamp post} with jewel bar has been added later. The arm itself is old and original. Ht 16" $275--$375 242. C.1900, Ansonia, Rare Secret Jewelry Box clock combination, in good original condition, except that one "Bee latch" has come unsoldered. The bee and latch are inside the box. Ht 11" $275--$375 243. C.1890, E. N. Welch, 1-Day Time, Calendar & alarm, as-found. Note the hammer has broken off the alarm clapper, and the bell was replaced long ago. Ht 9" $125--$175 244. C.1890, {lot of 2}, Ansonia Watches in original wooden boxes with paper labels. The top one appears to be a New York model. Both are 'no-jewel' movements, stem wind and set. One bid for both watches and both boxes. $100--$200 245. C.1905, German, Mini Art Nouveau Tall case clock, 30 hour pendulette movement, in good restored condition. Ticks robustly. Ht 13.5" $150--$250 246. C.1904, Ansonia FAVORITE, cast metal novelty clock in nice restored condition. The only minus is that the clock got dropped and the feet are bent; minute hand replaced. Still it has a great look and the base damage is not noticeable when the clock is setting on a shelf. Ht 9.25" $175--$225 247. C.1894, Ansonia, OPERA FAN, in very good original condition. There is some oxidation to the metal case, bit it is overall good. Paper dial is still bright and without stains and the hands are original. For reference, see Ly, item 32132. Ht 8" $175--$275 248. C.1900, Ansonia COLONNADE in very good original condition with original gilding intact. For reference, see Ly #2274. A cute clock. Ht 6.5" $200--$250 249. C.1900, Ansonia CRICKET, made for the English market, in good original condition. There is one small nut missing from underneath, but that can be easily replaced; rest is intact. Ht 6" $200--$250 250. C.1955, German, Hermle, Novelty Swinging arm clock, with new wooden base and restorations. Has a patinated bronze colored white metal frame. There is some oxidation in the crevices, but overall this has a great look. Porcelain dial and hands are good. For reference, see Ly #2076. Ly suggested retail price $375. $175--$275 256.
