Ht 36" $350--$550 087. C.1850, Mass Banjo, 8-day, gold front, weight driven, 8-day. Condition: this clock has the appearance of an 1825 clock, but is really 1850 or later. The movement is identical to an unsigned Howard and Davis that we have on the wall here, and attaches with a large center screw from the rear. It is known that H+D supplied movements to the trade at the time, and the rest of the clock certainly never saw the Howard shop. Bill purchased this clock from John White, who probably did not know the clocks true age. Reproduction Willard style tablets are excellent. Ht 41" $1,000--$1,500 088. C.1830, Mass Banjo, 8-day, weight, mahogany case. Condition: This case has had its share of restoration over the years. The throat and lower door are c.1960, tablets same era; top to throat is absent. Has a home-made wooden pulley. Bill originally sold this clock at the Cleveland National in 1975 when the dial had no signature. Since then it has received the script "Warranted by E. C.1975, Reproduction No. 1 size Regulator Banjo, with a C.1820 Bingham school finely made movement with dead beat escapement and maintaining power. Condition: this clock is in excellent overall condition, the pendulum in need of minor reinforcement where the pendulum shaft meets the main stick. The movement itself is to highest Nashua standards well spoked with heavy baluster pillars. The mahogany case is well made with hinged throat piece; once had key locks in top bezel and lower door, now absent. A large, impressive and good running clock. You need a major lag screw to hold this one as it is extremely heavy. Ht 50" $3,000--$4,000 102. Mixed Lot: C.1888, E. Howard, No. 81 mahogany tall case, now with a converted E Howard master clock movement {like #1, but with circular cut outs in the front plate.}, one weight, 8-day with rocking ship. Condition: clean and running, very eye catching with rocking ship in arch, and damascene pendulum is good looking as well. Has cast bronze Howard plaque in rear of case. We had a similar clock 2 years ago that the consignor felt was "original", but we stand by our critical evaluation. These are all good parts, if by chance you have a proper Howard tall clock movement. Ht 98" $4,000--$6,000 103. C.1975, Repro Lyre Clock, 1-wt, 8-day, with an E. Howard #70 movement. Condition: although the movement is dry and could stand oiling, it is complete and sound and ticks. Hands are heavy well made copies of early Willard style. Ht 40" $1,750--$2,250 104. C.1820, Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn, Pillar & Scroll, 30 hour, 2-weight, wooden works, painted dial. Condition: this clock has experienced considerable restoration. The case has been stripped and has almost no finish; scrolls have each been broken and repaired; the skirt and feet are replacements. The label, although legible is missing some major chunks. The tablet is a modern replacement, well painted. The finials are modern replacements, and their screws are loose in the smooth holes of the chimneys. Despite these shortcomings, the clock is cosmetically attractive and looks "the part" Ht 32" $900--$1,200 105. C.1993 {dated movement} Unknown Boston area box lyre with Stennes dial. Condition: a bunch of these carved cases turned up at auction in the early 1990s and several folks have finished clocks with them. This gentleman, initials OJR, put on an extra Stennes dial that he found just to add to the confusion. Not a bad looking clock; Bill bought this on eBay for more than the estimate here. {and not described as here} Ht 42" $700--$900 106. C.1990, Unknown repro of Baltimore Banjo, with Wayne Cline, Bowling Green, KY movement set up. Condition: the case has decent proportions, and with nice gold leaf tablets, the bottom with REGULATOR in bold lettering. Condition: the entire front of the case is now with-OUT veneer, stained to match dark sides. The lower door is new and the mitered joints leave some to be desired. The pendulum length is correct, however the bob is from a ST #2, as I don’t believe you often see this large heavy bob in the Globe case. Lastly, a new paper dial has been pasted over the original painted one. Restore or use for parts; an original Globe is easily worth $600. Ht 32.5" $200--$300 108. C.1901, Ansonia, 12 INCH DROP OCTAGON, R.C., 8-day time only, spring mov't Condition: the oak case has been refinished, except for the door, which retains is dark brown color. C.1901, Ansonia, REGULATOR D, 8-day time and strike, in an embossed oak long drop octagon case. Condition: pendulum is from Sessions; the sides of the clock retain old varnish, severely alligatored, and it is easy to see why the front was stripped to show the embossing. The Ansonia book shows the drop plain and the door embossed, this one is the opposite with no evidence of being changed, so must simply be a variant, the dial has been improperly repainted; these were originally paper inserts; center brass ring is painted white, but can be stripped. So there you have it, an interesting clock that needs paper dial and some TLC. Ht 32" $275--$375 110. C.1880, Swiss Pinwheel Movement, in a purpose made oak & pine case from C.1925. Condition: Unusual cherry case is sound, and has been refinished. Glass over dial is missing. Clock has been in storage and will need service. Note meter pendulum with invar rod and cylindrical brass bob with micro adjustment on the bottom. It is our belief that pulleys should attach to the case side or top and that the weights are "direct drive". Original dial was black and copper color, and someone masked it and brushed the center gold {good they left the "International" intact}. Also with fancy international beat scale at bottom. Note after we took the foto, we found the original brass covered weights, and they are now with the clock. Serial #680458BE Ht 63" $1,000--$1,500 113. C.1895, Seth Thomas, Regulator No. 3, 8-day weight, timepiece, in walnut. These timepieces were made to run backwards and would have been viewed by looking at the reflection in a mirror. Paper dial is a replacement /for Waterbury-Kramer Service Co/ on the original dial pan. Movement is signed Ingraham. Nice label inside case.
