252. C.1885, Ansonia black enameled iron clock with original paper dial. This economy line clock has no style virtues, but is clean, original & going; ht 10" $75-100

253. C.1925, Seth Thomas "Tudor" variant in inlaid mahogany. Note model pictured in 1915 shows single line inlay around the edge of case, where this one has different line pattern. Very clean; ht 8.75" $100-150

254. C.1910, Ansonia "Turkey", oak cased shelf clock; label is flaking but legible; original paper dial & finials. Mov't recently cleaned; pendulum is too short, but easily corrected; ht 16' $90-120

256. C.1880, E. Ingraham & Co., "Doric" rosewood 30 hour T/S shelf clock. The dial was repapered some time ago, but other than that, this is an exceptional clock w/ original finish, label+peacock tablet; ht 16" $125-175

257. C.1900, Waterbury oak gallery clock (7" dial) in good cond. Note dial has been repapered and bezel is loose, but still a good looking clock; ht 11" $125-175

259. C.1835, Burr & Chittenden, Lexington. Mass, 30 hour ww column & splat. the case has early columns with gilt accents (now worn off); mirror has been replaced with an old print of Geo Washington. Label is excellent and clock in overall good cond; 35" $175-225

260. C.1920, T. B. Starr, NY, nice small lever deck clock in a quality cast brass case with screw bezel. Needs polish, but is complete, sound & runs. Dial dia = 2.3" Cute clock. $175-275

261. C.1890, French black marble with onyx accents architectural mantle clock. This is a large 7 impressive clock in excellent order; open 'scape dial with white numerals on cobalt blue cartouche. Minor edge chips on case, but overall excellent; ht 18" $300-400

262. C.1920, German, Black Forest Cuckoo, 7 leaf & 3 bird, nicely detailed. Clock has large cast plate mov't; recently restored with new bellows (long & deep). Hands are new but acceptable; would run on smaller weights; height 24" $150-200

263. C.1900, Waterbury "Admiral", oak long drop in very good original condition; labels are coming loose, but present; top bezel needs better latch. Minor oak chip along rh side of case; dial xlnt; ht 31" $250-350

265. C.1860, English 2-train dark oak drop dial; the chain fusee movement with robust pillars (needs clean). The original dial signed Manoah Rhodes & Sons, LTD, Bradford (with flaking), Lock to bottom access door is loose inside the case; ht 28" $500-700

266. C.1930, Chelsea, Boston "Clinton" model deck timepiece in a polished brass case. This one retailed by Abercrombie & Fitch, NY (on dial). Plain Arabic silvered dial; runs; height 5" $200-250

267. C.1880, F. Kroeber & Co., NY, enameled iron clock in the French Empire style. This has to be one of the best looking iron clocks I've seen in a while; note iron columns with imitation marble finish (with wear). Good porcelain dial with FK trademark; ht 17' $225-325

268. C.1860, Seth Thomas, Plymouth Hollow (Plym mov't and label) mini OG base cottage clock, time & alarm. This clock is original & excellent; dial has been touched up around the winding holes (not perfect), and there is a gouge in the case top; still nice; ht 9" $200-300

269. C.1920, Seth Thomas #96 Westminster Chime bracket clock, mahogany with marquetry. Clean #124 mov't chiming on straight rods; silvered dial with raised bronze numerals; nice beginner clock; ht 10.5" $175-225

270. C.1870, Seth Thomas 8-day "Cottage" in rosewood. This has to be the cleanest, most original ST cottage we've seen. Xlnt label, finish, dial and tablet; height 14" $200-250

281. C.!910, French carriage clock, time only in a plain Corniche case in good condition. Retains original lever/platform & runs fine. Porcelain dial is perfect & signed: Smith Patterson & Co, Boston; 5.75" $150-200

282. C.1975,Swiss, LeCoultre "Atmos" calibre 528-8 in styro shipping box, with original guarantee certificate & manual. This model with lift out front panel. Serial #262469; may need service but overall xlnt; height 9" $350-450

283. C.1890, French black marble mantle clock in traditional form with 4 reeded bronze columns and a bronze frieze above the dial. Pendulum needs work to provide proper adjustment, however rest of clock seems sound; height 15" $200-300

284. C.1890, French Morez wall clock, the iron framed mov't striking the hour a second time at 2 minutes past the hour. The numerals 1324 have been added to the dial in red. The board with all the MOP inlay has a crack that is not too noticeable. Overall good; height 24" $225-325

285. C.1900, Rare Whisky advertiser clock, Strass, Pritz & Co., Cincinnati. The area around the dial, reporting in large letters "Lewis 66" RYE. The glass & foil all in good condition; ht 12" $250-350

285-a. C.1920, "None Such Mince Meat" advertising clock; this clock has some minor wear around the edge of the dial, but is really exceptional; retains orange color on crust and the ad is clear & untouched; runs; height 9.5" $300-400

285-b. C.1890, Regent Mfg. Co., Chicago, bronze plated case iron novelty clock advertising the "London Daily News - Canada" First in News - First in Circulation. This ad item is in original condition with perfect dial & good patina; ht 12" $200-300

286. C.1845, C. Jerome, New Haven, Conn, unusual 30 hour T/S clock in a fully veneered rectangular case with button latch door; great dial with original signature; height 13.5" $175-275

287. C.1870, Seth Thomas "Round Band" 30 hour mini OG, T/S/Alarm in excellent original condition, with superior tablet of a robin & dragonfly. There are a couple of minor veneer chips on the case, but overall a nice clock; height 16.5" $175-275

288. C.1850, J. C. Brown, Bristol, 8-day iron front with Dan'l Pratt, Reading, Mass label. This is one of the most original iron fronts we've seen in a while; the scroll work retaining the orig Japanese bronze finish; dial with minor touch up; impressive clock; ht 22" $175-275

289. C.1910, German, Uhrenfabrik Muller, the largest tambour known. Quality Muller 3/4 Westminster mov't chiming on 5 rods. The 7" brass dial is engraved with Arabic numerals (needs silvering); mahogany case retains original finish and string inlay; fabulous tambour; width = 34" $200-300

290. C.1955, German, W. A. Schmidt-Schlenker, novelty variant of the 400 day clock. This year running movement with a large 7j platform, the balance of which is a beam carrying tow fine made porcelain china ladies with full lace hoop skirts. The movement has just been serviced and the ladies have been twirling round for several weeks; very unusual; with dome; 10.5" $400-600

291. C.1935, German clockwork whistler, "Seated Drunk" with wine bottle. The movement has been cleaned and the box whistles loudly as the head turns back & forth. The carved wooden figure with original point & nice patina; someone drilled a hole in the rear cover to hold the key, but can be filled; ht 8" $600-800

292. C.1920, Zenith Watch Co., unusual ball watch & ormolu stand (variant of the paperweight clocks). The spherical watch case is of bronze profusely inlaid with navy blue enamel in a pattern similar to peacock tail feathers. The watch is wound "mysteriously" by turning the crystal & bezel while holding the ball; runs 8-days; small & eye-catching; ht 2.5" $400-600

292-a. C.1900, French mini carriage clock, signed on the dial & mov't "John Wannamaker, Philadelphia". The beveled glass has a couple of corner chips, but the rest of the clock is sound; clean with a NEW 11j platform; handle up ht 4.5" $200-300

292-b. C.1975, German, for Horolovar & Co., repro Briggs rotary clock, as-new, in original styro shipping box. These quality clock run trouble free and have the advantage of going 8-days; ht 7,5" $225-325

292-c. C.1890, English fusee ship's clock with large vertical balance on the front plate. This was a sleeper until we opened it up & discovered a great movement; chain is bunched, so please do NOT wind until set up properly; good porcelain dial; height 8" $250-350

293. C.1870, Elias Ingraham, time only 14" gallery clock in wonderful original condition. The dial with great alligator pattern; the case with most of its original gesso and gilding; only minor wear; overall nice; 20" $250-350

293-a. C.1850, Ludwig Wirth, Vienna, Austria, 3-weight grand sonnerie wall regulator. The case in late Biedermeier style with fake grained rosewood finish in xlnt condition. This clock is 100% original with slide mount mov't, delicate hands and 4-spoke pulleys; weights are not shown; height 44" $2000-3000

293-b. C.1900, German, "Art Nouveau" 2-weight regulator. Note fabulous silvered lilies applied to the weights, pendulum & dial, all against the original frosty gold background. The case is honey colored walnut with detail carving on the top, transition piece, and the base. With rod strike; this is a magnificent and absolutely original 2-weight clock; height 46" $1200-1500

293-c. C.1880, Austrian 2-weight regulator in typical "Alt Deutsch" style. Good porcelain dial & attractive walnut case w/ heavily carved columns; ht 42" $500-700

293-d. C.1845, Smith & Taylor, 105 John St., New York, full size 8-day steeple in good as-found cond. Though dirty, this clock has a superior label, perfect etched tablet (lyre design) good original dial and old upper glass; will need clean & new time spring; ht 20" $175-275

293-e. C.1850, Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, rare 8-day brass fusee cottage in imitation MOP on iron case. This wooden case is ebonized and with MOP simulating a floral design (some missing), the stems & leaves done in gold paint & well preserved; ht 13" $350-550

293-f. C.1880, French Morbier with original repousse dial surround & pendulum with matching peacock motif. This clock is very dirty and has no weights, but is one of the most original Comptoise we've seen. Also with central calendar; dial perfect; ht 55" $400-500

293-g. C.1905, Ansonia "Prism" 8-day T/S Crystal Regulator. Condition is dirty, as-found, however, all the beveled glass is good, dial is perfect & with original hands & pendulum; even runs' ht 11" $275-375

293-h. C.1870, Wm. L. Gilbert, Winstead, good 8-day T/S/Alarm style shelf clock. The rosewood case is very nice with original crazed finish & superior gold transfer on the base. The mov't has Gilbert's early ID mark and the clock retains its sandwich glass pendulum with little ball side ornaments; ht 16.5" $175-275

293-j. 19th Century French "Yacht" timepiece, nice quality nickeled brass case with 3 point mount. Has balance/verge 'scape, porcelain dial & gilt hands. Running and a neat clock; ht 4.75" $175-275

293-k. C.1910, French carriage timepiece in a Corniche case. Good porcelain dial & matching hands; original lever/platform intact; Running and with original carry case; height 5.5" $175-275

294. C.1925, German, Karl Griesbaum, E. G., (signed) clockwork whistler, Standing Drunk with Umbrella under His Arm and a giant beer with a head of foam in the other hand. This particular man whistles a very lively tune and has well detailed facial features. An unusual model in excellent order; ht 9" $600-700

295. C.1890, French miniature time only walnut bracket clock, profusely covered with chased ormolu trim; most of the gilding has rubbed off the trim, but as you can see in the photo, the case maker left no surface undecorated. The 8-day tic-tac movement runs with a small replacement pendulum; good dial with a floral wreath around center & pierced hands; ht 8.5" $400-600

296. C.1950, German, clockwork whistler, Drunk Leaning Against a Lamp Post. The movement recently cleaned and the man whistling "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" in a clear and melodious tune. Original paint & patina. Battery box in base accommodates 2 D cells for the lamp; ht 19" $750-1000

297. C.1890, E. N. Welch Mfg, hard to find "Cabinet No. 1" in walnut. Note this case has template cut incising that was originally gilded; some is obvious, rest covered with muck. Movement is the same as Patti--with open 'scape on dial. Rear label is dark but legible; clean & running; ht 18" $500-700

298. C.1865, Atkins Clock Co, "London" style case in rosewood with original gilded columns, good dial & excellent tablet(s). 8-day T/S in good running order. Minor nicks+scrapes; overall very good;16.5" $275-375

299. C.1905, Ansonia "Denis Papin" figural clock in good original condition with no breaks nor repairs to casting. The finish worn from most of the statue, but it is good looking as is. Porcelain dial w/ open 'scape is xlnt; height 16" $400-600

300. C.1890, Boston Clock Co., "Queen Anne" time only carriage clock in a variant case, the dial & mask cast as one piece with ten well detailed sparrows, some flying and some resting on branches. The case is very clean, & the movement recently overhauled--NOTE the going barrel has an age crack that will eventually fail; height 6.5" $400-500

301. C.1900, German Lenzkirch walnut wall clock in the Art Nouveau style. The crisp carving on this clock is of the highest quality; the signed Lenzkirch mov't with Nouveau dial featuring engraved center & spandrels, fancy hands and original fancy cast pendulum; ht 38" $800-1200

302. C.1985, Swiss, Arthur Imhof (as-new) quality repro of a late 17th Century inclined plane clock, as sold by the Franklin Mint. The good 15j movement has an embossed & engraved backplate & shows no evidence of use. To power the clock, you simply place it at the top of the incline each Sunday; the clock rolls over each day of the week bar as it descends the ramp; 24"wide. These were $2000 new. Our guess $900-1200

303. C.1980, Local Reproduction of an Aaron Willard shelf clock with dish dial & farm scene tablet. The mov't is a Kilbourne & Proctor and the case workmanship is xlnt; in good running order; height 36" $1000-1500

304. C.1830, Eli Terry & Son, Plymouth, Conn, short transitional half column & splat with original tablet, stenciling & claw feet. The drape & heart tablet has only about 20% left. The label is superior and dial xlnt; height 30.5" $500-700

305. C.1840, English 2-fusee mahogany bracket clock with carved leaf appliqué along top radius. The substantial movement with both chains intact & striking on a bell. The 6" painted dial is worn & needs repainting; replacement hands need attn also; height 13" $600-800

306. C.1910, French striking carriage clock in a Doucine case. This case could stand another polish, but is sound; the left pane has a small chip, but rest of glass is fine. Original lever-platform intact, running and striking; good porcelain dial; ht 6" $350-550

306-a. C.1910, German, Junghans "Diana" swinging arm clock in good condition; the bronzing has worn from a couple of spots on the statue and the gilding is rubbed off a few spots on the arm, but clock is overall excellent; height 13.5" $600-800

307. C.1910, Seth Thomas, Empire #65, convex front crystal regulator in excellent restored condition with good beveled glass. The extra wide case with 4 free standing Corinthian columns; height 11" $600-800

308. C.1870, German, an early Gustav Becker 2-weight regulator in the Vienna style. This is a long 72-beat case with original movement, hands, pulleys, etc. The case was nicely refinished some time ago. One finial tip broken, Overall a very attractive 2-wt in running order; ht; 47" $800-1200

309. C.1850, Brewster & Ingrahams 4-candle stand steeple, as-found with Daniel Pratt partial overpaste label (super label). This clock has been setting on the shelf for 30 years and needs cleaning & rubbing and coupla finial tips. Large 8-day brass spring mov't with original springs; ht 19" $500-700

310. C.1890, French, Japy "Qualite Superieure" 3-piece marble & ormolu mantle set. Classic portico style in tan/pink mottled marble with matching urn garnitures. 8-day bell strike mov't with good porcelain dial, and serial #6433 on mov't & pend. Ht 17" $700-900

311. C.1910, New Haven "Intrepid" 30 day oak wall clock; this clock runs well, but has been varnished over with some very dark stain. Case would strip to golden oak. original dial has minor wear; good pend & beat scale; height 49" $650-850

312. C.1900, French miniature carriage clock & case. This is the smallest Anglaise case we've ever seen - total ht 2.6 inches. The dial is .625". Comes with original carrying case. Small 8-day mov't has a cylinder 'scape which is dirty--staff is intact and it will tick when you turn the set stem. See clock photograph, next to standard Gorge case. $500-700

312-a. C.1890, French, mini oval carriage clock in excellent condition with perfect glass & dial. With original lever-platform intact. This clock was purchased many years ago and has been well cared for. Time only. Mov't signed "JD" (Desjardin) Ht 3.75" $500-700

313. C.1820, French Empire period 2-column mantle clock; the case of polished black marble has edge & corner chips; the ormolu is well chased and retains most of the gilding. The unsigned time only mov't has pinned plates and no markings nor numbers; has unique thumb screw beat set device integral with the crutch (original); overall very good cond; ht 15.5" $900-1200

314. C.1888 (dated), Rare Boston Clock Co., "Delphus" model. The Delphus appeared in the 1890 trade catalog as a "tandem" wind model. This particular clock is quite rare in that it has the limited production remontoire movement, the rear plate engraved "Charles Bickford, Boston, Pat Dec. 18, 1888" Note this clock winds to the LEFT only, winding the strike. When the clock strikes, an extra gear winds the tiny time spring that powers the clock. This clock is quite rare. See regular Delphus "tandem" later in sale. Height 11" $800-1200

315. C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert, Regulator #5 in walnut. The case has been stripped & refinished (could use a bit more polish). This is a hard-to-find model--dial original; nickel bezel, pulley, bob & weight. Ht 46" $1000-1500

316. C.1880, French, (signed Drocourt), T/S/Repeat and alarm carriage clock with case. Note Drocourt's production ranges from serial 1000 in 1860+/- through 35,233. This clock has serial #10713 which should be close to 1880. Perfect porcelain dial w/ retailer: Crosby, Morse & Foss, Boston. Original lever-platform intact; height 7" $900-1200

317. C.1890, Boston Clock Co., walnut wall regulator in great original condition; signature is fading but finish, tablet, hands & pendulum are fabulous; (note red area is pulling loose from glass); ht 37" $2000-2500

318. C.1870 (dated) W. F. Evans, English 1-train passing strike skeleton clock in cathedral form, and with a brightly gilded statue of Queen Victoria in the archway. See Robert's book on British skeletons for comparative dial & 6 spoke wheelwork by Evans. This is a very well made clock with original chain intact. With a sterling presentation plaque. No dome; height 23" $1500-2000

319. C.1911, Chelsea Clock Co., rare "Crystal" carriage clock, hour and half hour strike with special engraved dial. This clock orig retailed by Bancroft Bros., Columbus, O. Minor oxidation on case; yes this clock is nearly a foot tall; xlnt; ht 11.25" $1500-2000

320. C.1910, Tiffany & Co., New York, large crystal regulator in the "Anglais Riche" style with reeded columns and detailed moldings top & bottom. Note movement has full sig stamp: Tiffany & Co., New York. and the heavy cast dial has raised letters: "T & C, Makers" Case & mov't a little dirty but clock is running and will clean up nicely; ht 14.5" $1000-1500

321. C.1925, Chelsea "Tambour #4" house strike clock in a polished brass case with silvered dial inscribed "Shreve, Crump & Low, Boston" In clean condition; dial diam = 5.5" Height 10" $500-700

321-a. C.1910, French Crystal regulator with green onyx top & bottom adorned with gilded spelter mounts. Fancy floral dial is perfect and mercury pendulum intact; Sound but needs cleaning; ht 14" $500-700

321-b. C.1880, New Haven Clock Co, (Jerome & Co Trademark) "Rokeby" rare cherry cased double dial calendar clock. Dials have some discoloring & top finial is replaced; left arch has 2 chips; 8-day time only spring mov't driving B B Lewis "V" type perpetual mechanism; day of week hand broken & inside case (star OK); see Miller's #403 for details; ht 64" $1500-2000

321-c. C.1875, Welch, Spring & Co., "Italian" model double dial calendar. See Miller's #186. Dial has a small chip at the center; xlnt labels. Overall a very clean example; ht 19.5" $600-800

321-d. C.1850, Henry Terry, Plymouth, Conn, very rare striking (2-weight) wall regulator in a typical Silas Terry type rosewood case. Original black & gold label is perfect; black & gold tablet is starting to raise, but wonderful; minor case repairs well done; overall superior clock; ht 36" $1500-2000

321-e. C.1875, Welch, Spring & Co., "Wagner Shelf" perpetual calendar clock; walnut case is excellent with original finish - minor nicks along the base molding; label & dials excellent; ht 26" $1500-2000

321-f. C.1840, Joseph Ives internal column, 8-day OG with Hills & Goodrich label; original blue paint inside; inner mirrors OK; gilding good. Bottom mirror has a crack. Veneer is good w/ minor corner chip; original weights; overall xlnt & rare; ht 31" $900-1200

322. C.1910, Ansonia #5 Crystal Regulator, Porcelain China top & bottom, this particular case with an iridescent luster ware finish. Basic color is ivory shade with 24K highlights in good shape. Porcelain dial is perfect; all beveled glass is good. A very clean clock; ht 17.5" $2000-3000

338. C.1930, Special Presentation clock, inscribed on the rear: "To Jimmy Stewart from the boys at Corona". The solid bronze case weighs 19 lb. and is signed "Tiffany Studios, New York". The clock itself is a Seth Thomas; see the "Marseilles". This is an exact copy, but in bronze instead of white metal. We guarantee the case is Tiffany and that the inscription and studio stamp are original; height 12.5" Hard to estimate $1500-2000

339. C.1890, French gilded spelter figural clock with conical pendulum. The case with musical theme, a lyre at the left, horns in the center and a cameo on easel at right. This clock depicts a public memorial with fountain at top, the twisted glass "fountain" rotating via a separate movement wound from the back of the case. 341. C.1910, Dungan & Klump, Philadelphia, Penn, good original time & strike mouse clock. A typical large American open spring lever movement drives a ladder chain which raises the mouse for each 12 hour period; as the chain passes the top the mouse falls back to the bottom. The only changed items on the clock are two simple door hooks on the rear; rest 100% original with label. A rare clock; height 43" $1750-2250

The porcelain dial is perfect, signed by retailing jeweler: "A.Pele, Pardubicich", and with seconds bit. Well made grand sonnerie movement shows good care. Note this clock case is by the same hand as lot #403 in the April '96 sale, with minor variations. Ht 49" $3500-4500

352. C.1890, E. Howard & Co., 24" marble dial clock in a well carved walnut case. The dial is signed with cast bronze letters "Boston & Hingham Steamboat Co, 7 Rowes Wharf, Boston", with original hands & pendulum. Weight is not original and you'll want to cast a proper one. This is a large and heavy clock width=47", height=28". $3500-4500

353. C.1889, French Industrial Series, Steam Powered Paddle Wheel. The clock movement itself is in the end of the steam boiler; the left firebox contains a barometer and the right fire box contains a curved thermometer (intact). The steam "drives" two large pistons which drive two contrate wheels against a large one on the paddle wheel. Water enters the left lock through an adjustable gate, and is lifted out of a higher lock on the right side. In actuality, the paddle wheel is powered by a large spring motor in the base and the rest of the gears are "driven", rather than driving. Note 2 wooden paddles are broken. Clock intact but dirty. In reporting on the Paris Exhibition of 1889, Mr. T. D. Wright reports that at the booth of M.M.Diette of Paris "There was a large display of "fantasy" clocks depicting equipment and chores of the day". Ht 14" $5000-7000

354. C.1890, French bronzed and painted spelter swing clock, the ball and time only movement act as the base of the pendulum. The statue of a Middle Eastern lady in costume with original finish. 355. C.1890, French oversize (8.25") carriage clock. The twisted column, convex sided, Anglaise Riche variant case retaining original frosty gilding. This clock is full grand sonnerie with alarm & repeat with selector in base for Full, Pet., & Silent. Original platform intact and the clock with original leather covered display & carry case (strap broken). If you're looking for one carriage clock, this is the one; total height with case=9". 356. C.1820, Carl Suchy, in Prag, 1-weight, 8-day Laterndluhr in excellent condition. This clock has several unique features that set it apart from the typical Viennese latern. Foremost, the movement is mounted directly to the hood and slides off together with the hood for service (careful not to bend crutch, which is extra long to make easy beat set changes from the throat). Movement is signed (stamped) inside the back plate, and has fancy end stops for verge & 'scape arbors. The milk glass dial has probably had the numerals strengthened; and has a super engine turned bezel (dial dia = 5"). The pendulum bob has an extra steel reinforcement from the center to the bottom (in the French style) for ease in adjusting. The pediment top 9-lite case has minor nicks & scrapes + retains original finish. The bottom front and throat panels lift out in the conventional manner; height 38.5" $15000-20000

357. C.1890, E. Howard & Co., Regulator #58-8 in good original condition; the nicely detailed cherry case retains original finish, except on lower door where a hasp +padlock used to be. Rear case hanger incorrect (replacements available). The dial is original with only minor touch up in the white area and a strong original chapter and good signature. The movement stamped #5 and E. Howard & Co, Boston, mounting to the case back with screw from rear, and with 4 additional tabs added inside for good measure. Also with original E. Howard winding key. Overall nice clock; ht. 41" $2500-3000

358. C.1890, French, another "clock in pendulum" rare swing clock, this model under a glass dome. The clock is suspended from a top brace between 2 reeded brass pillars, the whole mounted to a brass base. Very nice quality. The movement well made with a porcelain dial; it has run here for 3 weeks on a single winding; height 13" $2500-3000

359. C.1925, German, Stresser & Rhode of ONE MONTH duration floor regulator with astro dial. The movement is unsigned but is definitely from their clock making facility. The precision movement with jeweled pallets, maintaining power and patent beat setting device on the pendulum rod. (Two jar mercury pendulum) The 12" silvered dial with 8.5" minute ring and proportionate hour and seconds rings. Note, as is typical for German precision clocks, it winds through the hour hand. Also note substantial brass bracket for stabilizing the case on the wall. Well made case of Honduran mahogany; ht 75" $4000-6000

360. C.1840, English Tavern Clock with 24" dial. The fusee movement measures 9.5" x 7.5" and is very heavy with extra large spring barrels. The movement mounts to the dial in typical English fashion and can be removed with the outer bezel by removing the 4 wooden pins. The dial has been reblacked over the original numerals and is signed: R.J.H Chaplin, London Bridge. The trunk houses a meter pendulum. The glass was broken in transit. These large tavern clocks do no come up that often, and the case on this clock has been very nicely restored. Height 68" $2000-3000

361. C.1900, French bronzed spelter swinging mystery clock. The extra tall statue of a male warrior, standing victorious over a sea monster & with a dead beast behind him over a tree. 362. Mid 19th Century, French carriage clock, movement signed A.D. (A.Dumas, ref. Allix). This clock shows several early characteristics as well as Swiss influence. The multipiece Corniche case is unusually wide, and all of the strike & repeat mechanism is on the back plate, rather than behind the dial (note repeat button in rear also) With original lever-platform intact, perfect dial and good original case; height 6.5" $900-1200

362-a. C.1890, French Carriage Clock, T/S/Alarm & repeat in a beautiful Cannelee case, attractively engraved & inlaid with champleve enamel on all 4 sides, the top & handle. The dial mask simulating a garden temple with stylized griffins engraved. 365. C.1830, Austrian Picture Clock with music. The clock is mounted in the top portion of the frame, and is a typical grand sonnerie movement with silk suspension. The movement is complete but dirty. The pendulum swings behind the painting. The painting itself (on metal) is a typical Austrian lake with chalet, woman & child on the shore watching a canoe. The frame has some gesso missing but is generally good; ht 33" (84cm.)$2000-3000

366. C.1880, Ithaca #2 Bank Calendar, double dial in good original condition. Note 2 bottom side finials are missing and the cord broke and knocked the bottom off once. 367. Mid 19th Century, French bronze noon cannon & sundial, the cannon barrel mounted in slides, one quadrant engraved with Jan--Jun, the other July--Dec., the two arms supporting a magnifier. The marble base with incised dial & gnomon set for 45. The marble also incised with "Marangone Felletta, Opticien a Lyon". Note the cannon would have been set & charged with powder & wadding each morning, and on sunny days would respond when the concentrated light fell on the powder slot at "high noon". 368. C.1890, Seth Thomas Regulator #2 in Cherry. The case on this clock is especially nice. The only hurt is an all new dial which is accurately made, just new. The rest of the clock--weight, hands, pulley, pend, scale, etc are old & original; ht 36" $700-900

369. C.1920, F.Peter-Trauffer, Holtzschnitzer, Luzern, Switzerland. An impressive hand carved tall case, featuring 6 large grape clumps and 26 nicely detailed leaves, the base with a well detailed fox with glass eyes. The German 3-weight movement chimes Westminster melody on 4 steel rods and strikes the hours on a separate set of 4. The dial engraved: "Swiss-Made, Luzern, Peter-Trauffer". With the original instruction sheet from Trauffer (at podium). A very impressive and original clock. This clock is a one owner, bought on a honeymoon trip. Height 82" $2500-3500

369-a. C.1910 (dated) English, J.J.Elliott 10-bell, triple chime mahogany tall clock. Note this is a typical 9-tube movement with large hammers moving front to back. This clock was a special order by Thomazine Lockyer to her husband Sir Norman Lockyer for Christmas 1910 (and so engraved) The 10 bells were provided by a bell specialist: Mr. Starman, and range from 3 to 6" in diameter (very deep tone) and are mounted on a large auxiliary bracket especially made for this clock (original). Note inscriptions on dial and extra note tacked inside case from family member. Ht 84" $4000-6000

C.1800, English 8-day Brass Dial tall clock, the inlaid mahogany case with attractive proportions & broken arch hood (w/later brass finial); note the hood door has been broken off & repaired and needs add'l attention. The arch painting is of a maid churning butter in the morning while a dog looks on Running and striking loudly on an iron bell; ht 88" $1400-1600

375-b. C.1920, Waltham Clock Co., 9-tube Triple Chime tall clock. This clock has the #50 movement with #1 gilded mask dial in xlnt condition. The case style is similar to model #922, but this clock has a larger plinth and inset picture frame trim, as well as beveled glass on 3 sides. Large size tubular bells are all signed Waltham. This clock is from a home in Falmouth, Maine and is a one owner; has been oiled faithfully but will need cleaning (runs as is). Originally retailed by Bailey, Banks & Biddle. Height 92" $3000-3500

375-c. C.1800, English square brass dial 30 hour tall clock. The 12" dial with attractive engraving and signed Newby, Kendal. The heavy oak case is profusely carved with leaf & geometric designs. Great decorator; height 87" $1000-1500

376. C1820, Massachusetts Tavern clock, Willard school. This mahogany veneered case has a lot of character with key lock door and attractive dimensions. The early movement is not by Willard, but is of good quality. The dished iron dial has an old added signature of Simon Willard (almost rubbed off). The cast iron weight is new; lacks tin weight guide. A worthy piece of Americana; ht 31" $1500-2000

376-a. C.1875, Seth Thomas Regulator #1 in mahogany. With front hung pendulum and second bit. Note dial support board is a configuration I've not seen, but it appear to have been there 100 years. The tablet is painted and old; the entire back has been reblacked. the instructions on the baffle are like new; beat scale good. An excellent example; ht 34" $1000-1500

376-e. C.1880, Swiss 10 tune music box in good condition. The mainspring broke once and pulled out the stud in the going barrel (now repaired). there are a few bent pins in the 13" cylinder, but you cannot hear them. Now despite these distractions, the box plays extremely well; the tunes listed on the original card: 1>Der Viceadmiral, 2>The Mikado, 3>Otello, 4>Ruddigore, 5>Erminie, 6>Pirates of Penzance (the Gang's all Here)7>Fille en Regiment, 8>Home Sweet Home, 9>Marie, and 10>Sweet Violets. Also with original zither in working order. The box is black with worn stenciling, width = 23", ht = 9" $2000-2500

376-f. C.1830, New Hampshire Striking Mirror Clock. Despite being a marriage of an old mirror added to an original clock case (that has need narrowed to fit mirror), this is a clock of interest. The 2-weight rack striking movement has a T-bridge and is of substantial construction (see photo below the clock) with heavy baluster pillars. 376-h. C.1860, "Sambo" Blinking Eye Clock. This clock was purchased at Bourne's on 6-19-87 and their description is quite accurate: face repainted, rest of paint original with wear & tear; paper dial replaced, otherwise excellent & original throughout. I would add that this is the best running blinker I've seen in a long time, and with brisk eye action; ht 17" $1500-2000

376-j. C.1900, Ansonia "Juno Swing", bronzed spelter swinging mystery clock. The mount has broken off Juno's hand & been resoldered, and the top bowtie has a solder repair, but this is otherwise a decent clock in good running order; ht 28" $1750-2250

377. C.1875, French mantle regulator with Brocot open 'scape dial. The finely made striking movement with unusual shaped plates with rare dial layout featuring the time in a 2.5" circle at the right and the left circle indicating the day of the week, ruling deity and date. Note this clock probably had a glass cover that is now absent. Case less 2 return moldings; ht 16" $800-1200

378. C.1901, Ansonia "Queen Elizabeth" in excellent restored condition. The oak case has been refinished to a golden brown; retains all original finials & trimmings. The dial is original. Note interior was not refinished; this is a nice striking model with cathedral gong; height 37" $700-900

379. C.1885, E. N. Welch Mfg "Arditi" with Gale patent calendar mechanism. This walnut case has been refinished and the bottom with restoration & new foot board (accurately copied). Despite these shortcomings, this clock has wonderful original dials and super label. Clock came from the office of Cocheco Bottling Co, Rochester, NH (note inside); ht 27.5" $900-1200

380. C.1920, Seth Thomas #2 Regulator in oak with Arabic dial. The case has been stripped and could use more finish. Minor touch up to original dial. Overall a decent example of this model; ht 34" $750-1000

381. C.1845, Howard & Davis, Boston, #4 Banjo. The cherry case has been stripped of all its graining and refinished. Movement & fading iron dial signed Howard & Davis, Boston. The lower tablet was re-done 100 years ago by an amateur, but isn't bad. If you can re-grain, you'll improve this clock. Note lower door has been broken off once and will need attn. ht 32" $1400-1600

382. C.1845, Howard & Davis, Boston, #3 Banjo. This early Howard has a walnut case that has been rosewood grained; case has been stripped and most of the graining is gone. 383. C.1850, Howard & Davis, Boston, #2 Banjo. The fruitwood case was refinished long ago and the graining is gone; upper bezel is cracked; lower tablet poorly painted and broken. Best part of this clock is the excellent original dial (paper over zinc). With old Howard weight; ht 44" $2000-2500

384. Late 19th Century full size regulator banjo with meter pendulum. The case is of the finest crotch mahogany and heavily constructed with keylock bezel and lower door. The inner baffle, tablets, and weight are recent. The movement is of the highest quality, possible from John Polsey or Polsey & Davis, with finely spoked wheels, dead beat, maint. power, etc. The click spring has been poorly replaced, but will do. Keystone is poorly replaced and will need attn:. Still a lot of quality components that could be improved; ht 50" $2000-3000

384-a. C.1830, Abiel Chandler, New Hampshire mirror clock, 8-day timepiece. The maker, "A. Chandler" on original dial. The interior of the case is so fresh looking, one initially questions authenticity, but close examination is convincing that this is a clean, original example in "as-found" condition. Crack in original mirror. Original reverse tablet is in very good condition. Superb original hands & original weight & pendulum; ht 30" $3000-4000

385. C.1830, Jos. Chadwick, Boscawen, NH, good 2-weight striking mirror clock in excellent condition; note movement has been professionally serviced and is operating well --runs a full week with reserve. The hands are recent copies of pattern in lot 384-a, and are so well done you can't tell. Gilding on mirror frame has been renewed; all the rest, weights, dial, pulleys, dial, tablet, mirror, etc original. Note this rare tablet is shown in Parsons book, fig 20, page 32; ht 30" $4500-5500

386. C.1840, Wm. S. Johnson, NY label on S. B. Terry mini 30 hour time & strike weight driven OG with original crusty finish. The tablet has some flaking in the border area, but the eagle & shield are fine. Wooden dial has been broken & glued. Has old round iron weights and lead has been added to the time weight; veneer strip is off the very bottom. Hard to find clock; height 19" $700-900

387. C.1610, Southern Germany, unusual 17th Century 2-train movement signed "Andreas, 1610" on the front iron plate, now in a C.1800 mahogany over pine case with simple architectural lines. Note the movement has a a unique 12+12 notch countwheel running in a groove on the backplate, and the dial goes from 1 to 12, top to bottom and again from 1 to 12, bottom to top (24 divisions total in one revolution) The verge and crown wheel are intact, but the balance has been replaced with a short pendulum attached directly to the verge. A very early German piece, worthy of a better case and movement restoration. Ht 12" $2000-3000

388. C.1840, Dutch Staartklok, with an interesting dial with rolling moon, central calendar and alarm disc intact. Oak case has a couple of cracks and the 2 side jacks are missing from the hood, however the hand painted panels in the top AND sides are well preserved. Height 69" $1750-2250

Note this heavy 2-train movement is a quarter striker and has been professionally cleaned recently. Floral inlay accents case top, sides, door & base; the base with a pair of winged griffins. 391-a. C.1920, John Ohlson, Chicago, Ill, very well made self winding regulator (6v DC), with many precision features. Note substantial pendulum (with Riefler influence)-coarse adjustment in center of bob, medium adj below bob and fine adj weight tray in center. A solenoid swings and winds a small spring which powers the clock for a minute or so. The solid plates and unspoked hour wheel are hiding finely spoked going train with jeweled pallets. The dial is engraved brass, silvered and the makers name is deeply engraved. The mahogany cabinet is of high quality with a button latch door; top trim is missing. A precisely made clock; height 58" $2000-3000

434. C.1809 (dated) Ninian Davidson, Dunse, England, two train tower clock, together with one dial (36"), set of hands & motion work, the weights (with integral pulleys--require 10 foot drop). This clock uses a meter pendulum so is ideal for a window display. The well made iron rafter frame is held together with specially wrought bolts with large turned brass nuts. Rack & snail striking. Note the movement is very dirty, but is sound and complete and will clean up OK; the movement, pictured above the dial, is 24" wide. $1500-2000

459. C.1880, French Boulle front mahogany cased timepiece with xlnt porcelain dial. The case front inlaid with brass & red tortoise shell and with ormolu mounts; 8-day cylinder-platform is intact & running; height 9.5" $200-300

460. C.1890, French Swinging Doll clock in an elaborate spelter case with acanthus scrolls & swags, the base with a female bust. The case has taken a tumble and has a couple of broken leaves; otherwise OK. The good bell strike mov't has the typical double 'scape wheel with chaff cutter verge used in these models; height 15" $1200-1500

461. C.1865, German, R. S. Muller & Co, Mulheim a.Donau (Danube River) a quality clock of onyx & ormolu with the best German mov't (French quality). Someone who didn't know better tried to sand out the word Germany stamped in the rear plate, but the Muller trademark shows clearly. The central casting is of a wild boar, finely chased & gilded. Dial center engine turned; crystal poorly fitted to bezel. A good clock that needs only detailing; ht 11" $400-500

462. c.1955, German, Schmeckenbecher Uhrenfabrik, unusual shelf cuckoo with jeweled lever 8-day movement in a deco style bird cage. The feathered bird in the cage is fully animated--turns dips and opens beak on each cuckoo. Unusual & high quality variant; 12" $350-450

463. C.1920, German musical alarm clock in an unusual shelf clock style, similar to the typical box clock, but with original skirt and base molding to standing. With one 4.5" steel disc, powered by the alarm train of the clock movement; ht 18" $500-700

464. C.1860, Ansonia Brass Co., Ansonia, Conn, mini 30 hour spring driven OG in great restored condition. Mahog case was stripped and could use more finish, but dial tablet & label are super; ht 18" $225-325

465 C.1900, French Carriage clock, Time & Strike in a Corniche case. The left pane is cracked; rest of glass OK. Good porcelain dial. Original lever-platform intact; height 7" $375-475

466. C.1880, German 1-weight regulator in the Vienna style. The verge is loose on its shaft & clock will not stay in beat (simple repair). Porcelain dial is good; the case back has been grooved to take out warpage and the entire case refinished. Will improve with minor work; height 45" $375-475

467. C.1900, Wm. L. Gilbert, "Concord" pressed oak gingerbread; case was refinished to golden brown some time ago; dial is worn & discolored; still decent example with good label; ht 24" $125-175

468. C.1920, German, Hamburg-American walnut quarter striking bracket clock with fancy gilded dial & spandrels with silvered chapter ring.. The full plate mov't is well made, striking the quarters on two flat wire gongs; ht 14" $250-300

469. C.1880, Seth Thomas, 30 hour full size Octagon Top--the same case as the "Richmond" but with different door. The base is lacking a small strip of broken veneer, and the orig dial is rubbed pale; ht 18" $100-150

480. C.1850, Smith & Goodrich, Bristol, Conn, 30 hour mini OOG with good fusee movement on cast iron bracket below mov't. This model with tapered & grooved fusees. 482. C.1875, Ithaca "Farmers" double dial calendar clock (old style). The paper dials are original, but have vertical distress marks along the left side. Walnut case has been refinished with spar varnish; ht 21" $400-500

497. C.1910, French alarm clock on a lovely cast brass base with scrolling detail; the alarm set arm is missing, however the clock is quite attractive with a good porcelain dial, makes nice timepiece; ht 8" $75-100

498. C.1890, French round dial clock, 8-day T/S. The dial is alabaster with individual porcelain signet numerals, each on a gilded shield; dial sig: Verdier, Bruxelles. The bezel is oak & will clean up nicely; no glass; ht 14" $90-120

499. A 19th Century French or English lantern clock, well used & abused, now with a signet dial wit porcelain numerals. This clock needs a new crown wheel, the alarm train is missing and the pendulum is poorly made; appealing despite its problems; dial 8" $300-400

518. C.1870, Welch, Spring & Co., miniature round gothic with gilt columns (Italian Style) The label is virtually all gone, and tablet is flaked, but rest is all original. Very cute and hard to find clock; height 13.5" $175-275

519. C.1880, Ingraham "Doric" shelf clock, 30 hour T/S/Alarm, in a walnut veneer case with birdseye sides that has been stripped & oiled. Mov't dirty. Dial & tablet original (floral tablet xlnt) ht 16" $125-175

520. C.1890, Boston Clock Co., good tandem wind marble mantle clock. Has good porcelain dial with cut out to show the escapement. Tan onyx is inset into black marble to give the appearance of columns; minor edge chips; height 10" $250-300

521. C.1920, Gilbert "Curfew". This clock has a steel plate mov't with brass bushings; the dial center has been painted gold (will need replacing); Strikes on the large bell in top tower; ht 17" $175-225

522. C.1920, Cincinnati Time Recorder Co., this is a relatively early version with short, wide case (18 x 32"). The clock is sound & complete and the lower movement is quite dirty. $300-500

523. C.1890, Boston Clock Co., "Delphus" model with patent tandem wind movement. This clock with nickeled and damascened back plate. Porcelain dial with small chip and a small hairline near 3--minor blemishes on an otherwise perfect clock; ht 11" $600-800

524. C.1895, Waterbury 8-day time, strike & repeat carriage clock in a Corniche case with porcelain dial. The dial has a few hairlines across the center. Otherwise, this clock represents Waterbury's best effort to meet the French competition; ht 5.75" $175-225

525. C.1910, Ingraham "Dew Drop" striking calendar clock, as-found. The upper bezel has dryness cracks & some of the graining discolored. Rear label is quite good; dial is blotchy but acceptable; runs & strikes; height 24" $275-375

526. C.1850, Brewster & Ingrahams round dial clock, as-found. The gilding has been rubbed off the bezel and the gesso has the brown glow of nicotine. This early model never had a glass over the dial; label is excellent. East-West mov't dirty; ht 16" $275-375

527. C.1989, Modern repro of the Diana Ball Swinger; the spelter statue has poor detail. The ball itself is well made and has a robust movement & runs well. To my knowledge, Bob Murray is no longer making these; height 30" $700-900

528. C.1920, Ingraham Time & Calendar Store Regulator in oak; the case has been poorly refinished and is a dull brown color; mov't OK; dial original; height 36" $200-300

529. C.1910, German, Porcelain China Carriage clock; white case with dark pink accents & yellow flowers, with orig. 30 hour alarm movement; 9" $90-120

530. C.1900, French Polished Black marble clock in very clean condition. Solid porcelain dial has a soft yellow color; 8-day time & strike on a wire gong; height 9" $120-160

531. C.1920, Chelsea "Admiral", ship's bell on base on wooden mount. With 4.5" dial. This clock is complete & sound, nicely polished. Hands are incorrect; height 8" $550-650
