413. C.1900, French, Chas. Hour, Paris [signed movement], Petit Sonnerie and repeat with alarm in excellent original condition. The only problem I can find is that the hour hand is 1 hour ahead of the rack, so all striking and repeating are off by 1 hour. Original lever platform intact; height 5.3" $1200-1500
414. C.1885, French, Rare Torsion Mystery timepiece in good running order [a vital asset in a clock of this nature]. 415. C.1830, Attributed to Abiel Chandler, Concord, NH, striking lyre of excellent proportions. 418-a C.1820, Joseph Ives & Co., Bristol. Connecticut Mirror clock, with Ives patent 8-day iron plate movement. It is rare to have two of these in one auction. The dial is new. Included is a piece of zinc plate to sue for another dial; height 56" $2500-3500

420. C.1820, Mass Banjo, Willard School. Has all the trademarks of an early banjo: T-bridge, hand cut wheels, plates with casting flaws, drilled for fillister screws [now held in with wood screws]. The case was restored by a master gilder in New York, and I wish he was still alive--it is the nicest gilding I've seen. With a repro set of "Willard's Patent" glasses. Runs OK. No signature apparent; height 33" $1500-2000

425. C.1920 [uncertain date], Connecticut Banjo. Although this clock shows age, it is certainly not 175 years old [although the movement, dial and tablet may well be]. So we are selling it as a later example of a Connecticut banjo. Whoever made it used old veneer on the doors and finished it off pretty well. The mahogany panel in the lower door was not well done, and has bubbled up and the grain is open. 30- hour WW movement runs & strikes; height 35" $1000-1500
426. C.1875, Austrian, 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie wall clock in the Alt Deutsch style. The walnut case has full columns on the key lock door, reeded and with nicely carved Corinthian capitals. The old top is not original, but is a near perfect match. There are a couple of nicks in the top cornice molding. The movement is a high quality Viennese unit with cut parts and no stamping. Old pulleys and crank with wooden handle. This clock has a unique etched front glass with a fancy scalloped design all around the edge; back of case with a carved panel. Ht 55" $2500-3000
427. C.1890, Austrian 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie in a walnut 2nd Baroque wall case with "double door" design. The case retains all of its accent carvings and original oil finish. The unsigned Viennese movement is of high quality, striking on straight steel rods. The mounting bracket is spaced out from the case back with an old pine shim that has been there from the start--no extra holes whatsoever. Dial center, weights and pendulum with matched design; silvered dial with stylized Greek numerals; ht 50" $3000-4000
428. C.1880, Austrian, 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie wall clock, the walnut case with port hole style door and 11 pieces of fancy pressed brass trim. The well made Viennese movement has a silvered brass chapter ring with fancy Arabic numerals. The dial center, weights and pendulum with matching etched pattern. 429. C.1860, Austrian 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie Wall regulator in a magnificent serpentine case with original dark red finish [almost black]. The case retains all original buttons, finials and moldings, door key and ivory handle winding crank. The 72 beat movement is of highest Viennese quality, with perfect porcelain dial and original hands, bezel and strike shut-off lever. Note also the delicate 5-spoke star pulleys. Although I found several Serpentine clocks pictured in reference books, the closest one to this clock is in Rick Ortenburger's Book 1, page 44, lower rt. Three weight clocks were made in Vienna for over 100 years, but if you want to own just one, I'd say this one will fill your needs. Height 62" $4000-5000
430. C.1850, Austrian, Late Biedermeier 3-Weight, Grand Sonnerie wall regulator. The rosewood veneer case has the classic straight lines of the early 19th Century, with carved trim at the 4 corners of the door. There are minor nicks and scrapes on the case, and the case lacks top and bottom carvings. I would still classify this as overall excellent, with a high quality Viennese movement, with separate board mounted gong standard, cast bezel [shell and leaf pattern], very delicate hands, and original ivory handle crank; note also fancy star pulleys. One of the 3 weights is slightly short, but not noticeable from a distance; ht 43.5 $3500-4500
431. C.1890, German, Gustav Becker, 3-Weight grand sonnerie wall regulator in the 2nd Baroque style. The attractively carved walnut case uses the popular "double door" look with a single full door. The well made Becker mov't has had the strike hammers broken off and soldered on poorly; otherwise sound but dirty. The cream colored porcelain dial has an etched dial center that matches the pattern on weights and pendulum [note gilding is worn from weights and pend]. Striking on straight steel rods. Side glasses in case are broken [about $5 to replace]. An attractive clock; height 50" $2750-3750
432. C.1875, Austrian, 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie wall clock. This clock is a marriage of a quality Marenzeller movement in a more ordinary walnut case with flat reeded side columns. The case is dirty, having been shellacked over in a dusty area. When the slide mounts were relocated it left 2 holes which have been plugged in the case back. The quality movement has retaining power, finely cut gears and original Marenzeller pulleys and hands. Ht 51" $1000-1500
433. C.1885, German, Gustav Becker, 3-Weight Grand Sonnerie wall regulator in the 2nd Baroque style. The Becker movement, serial #281842 is well made and with an ivory colored porcelain dial with red fluer de lis separating the numerals. The deeply embossed dial center is matched by the 3 embossed weights and pendulum. Seems to be running and striking OK on straight steel rods. An exceptional clock; height 51" $3500-4500
434. C.1880, Austrian, 3-weight grand sonnerie, as-found. Although this clock is mechanically sound, it has some deficiencies that would cause concern to a purist. The top carving of 2 eagles is from another piece of furniture and not very old. The mounting bracket for the movement has been moved and there are extra holes, also the iron gong mount has been raised, creating another set of holes. Has a good Viennese movement with nice white porcelain dial and fancy original hands; rod strike; ht 50" $1000-1500
435. C.1910, German, Lenzkirch [signed] Regulator No. 2, made for railway or laboratory use. Movement is jeweled front and back on both the 'scape wheel and verge. 8-day duration with center seconds. 436. C.1900, Sempire Clock Co., St. Louis MO, "No. 65 Jeweler's Regulator" in solid oak. This is a very large clock, 78" tall by 23" wide. A solenoid lifts a small weight at the left of movt periodically and that small weight powers the entire time train. 441. C.1890, Austrian, Gebruder Resch [Remember] 3/4 size 2-weight in excellent restored condition. Note top was made in Austria from another old piece of furniture and looks good, but is ever so slightly lighter than the rest of the clock. The strike side is out of sync [hammer in air with gathering pallet at rest], so strike is sluggish -- this is an easy adjustment. Overall a very good clock with modest restoration and needs only minor attention; ht 44" $800-1200
